Modding to have capability to switch from system to system is harmless… I have no clue how to do it… lol
I said NOTHING about dual modding lol wtf. Did you read what we’re talking about? I’m saying its ridiculous that people are offering services to mod blocking both directions as if it should be a fair part of the game when arcades and stock sticks do NOT come with the option to block on both directions ever.
Why is this ridiculous? afiak, controllers that can block both directions are allowed, so why would it be bad to take advantage of this? Sure, blocking in both directions at once is stupid and kind of ruins aspects of games, but as long as it is allowed it should be exploited to its fullest. Not using strategies or tactics because you are latching on to childish notions of honor is the way of the Scrub.
Personally I think that any objection/anger/saltiness to **the issue itself **(being able to block in two directions), should be directed to Capcom. It is my opinion that a simple software patch could fix this issue, (they sure patched Sentinel quick, didn’t they?) and make this discussion invalid anyway.
And for those of you with reading comprehension issues. Zlasher was saying that he can’t believe that people would offer to modify the stick to block both ways. He wasn’t saying he couldn’t believe that people were modifying sticks for multiple systems.
I’m trying to get as close to breaking even on my plane trip/hotel/tournament entry expenses as possible, so if people want this done to their stick, I’m happy to take your money. As this ‘feature’ has been declared legal by our “Supreme Evo Commander” MrWizard, I’m rolling with it. The rules are clear, and if you disagree with them you have the option to compete in tournaments that ban this, or to not compete at all.
And I’m not intending to speak for Gummowned. We’re working together with the modding (and staying in the same room/travelling together), but if he has some sort of moral objection to doing this, he won’t be offering the service. That’s all.
I look forward to seeing everyone at EVO, and wish you all luck in your games! If you want to play some MvC2, come find my room, I’m always willing to play!
Nah my point is more like, you know its a pretty dirty thing to have, when it is completely not arcade authentic nor stock authentic, yet you’re just trying to make a buck off of putting it in. Yes its allowed right now but I don’t feel like it should be. I come from the Starcraft 2 community and everyone knows you can create button macros on certain keyboards and mice, but none of that is ever allowed in competitive play, and trying to make money off of it is just kinda dirty if you ask me. I can understand why the modders would do it since its not like its illegal but I would have hoped that people would recognize that it isn’t exactly a fair tactic. It’s like using a turbo button or having a instant dp input or something…why allow that?
You put it best in the line strogg, where you said its a moral thing. Not a tournament legality thing.
There is no arcade standard for Marvel, the console game is the standard. And the console game has this problem. Dunno what you mean about stock authentic… Sticks? People can make any stick they want, and they can even play on pad if they wish.
And seeing as MvC3 has no arcade version, you could say pad is the “stock authentic” input device, and an unmodified pad can block both ways so…
And macros are banned in fighting games as well. This isn’t a macro, it’s a glitch. More similiar to stacking mutalisks or something.
Zlasher. Again, I encourage you to contact Capcom, and suggest that they correct this issue.
As Yin correctly stated above, this is a bug, or glitch, in the software itself. This is no different than fastfly, or the Juggernaut power up glitch, or the switch glitch (or any of the dozens of other tournament-legal, and often encouraged) bugs/glitches in Marvel 2.
This is not a game breaking glitch (like the Ruby Heart or Gambit glitches), and therefore is not banned at EVO.
Who knows? Perhaps this will lead to more interesting MvC3 competitive gameplay, as players will be required to devise new tactics to defend against it, if it isn’t ever patched.
This was a similar problem in SSF2THDR which was patched. Capcom is lagging, this should’ve been corrected.
Honzo for some reason I can’t pm you from my phone but pm me back do you still need roomies for evo.?

Psh justifying this as if you’re not handling hardware to pull it off is just MORALLY making it go your way. The only time I ever tampered with hardware to obtain a glitch was mario64, I guess we should scratch our discs to remove phoenix also.
Also anyone who does do this can MORALLY lose any respect from me in any game for the whole future. You’re a scrub straight up. I’ll be playing the game how god intended and how Super MvC3 intended, eat a dick.
Pad players don’t have to tamper with the hardware in any way. They’ll just press left on the pad and right on the analog stick.
I’d say that playing on an arcade stick you’re playing on custom hardware already, hardware that lacks features of the standard input device (pad analog sticks).
So I guess pad players will be godlike since they won’t have any moral dilemma about hardware tampering for glitches to deal with.
Sometimes I just wish everyone would play on sticks. If everyone did, we’d have no problems as there would be a universally accepted way of playing the game.
Stuff like this just wouldnt be an issue.
Again with the focus on the input device as the problem, when it’s clearly Capcoms fault for being stupid. They screwed up, MvC3 was rushed.
How the fuck do you make an AAA fighting game and don’t test if you can block both ways. That’s some basic shit there, and all the other games got it right.
The solution is simple… play Mortal Kombat.
She needed button binding to do that. All the Hildes at Evo2k9 used standard pads because it made it easy to hold a shoulder button to charge the move while still fighting. It’s basically like if you could still use all your buttons while charging Balrog’s TAP… and TAP instantly killed people (via ringout in this case, IDK if it starts the combo or ends it).
Ah, I see. That explains all the pads during SC top 8. Thanks for clarifying.
But did she really end up banned?
