Back to the article, I think most of us are bashing it cause we’re part of the FGC, which is probably the most social division of gaming. The simple fact that online sucks balls and that you need to go out to other people’s places forces interaction. You quickly learn to stop being socially awkward(shy is not socially awkward) if you don’t wanna be the guy no one wants to do anything with. Now, if you take a step out of the FGC into the MMO world, most of this shit is true.
I remember when I was playing MMOs(Dofus) hardcore, I barely had ANY social interaction outside of school and my closest friends who played the same MMO. I was 15 and I didn’t see anything wrong with spending most of my waking hours grinding for xp and random drops with my buddies. I actually didn’t even care about that, the MMO was really all I needed. Fap 1/2 times per week and there, a happy me all year round.
Ultimately, I really wish the media would fucking STOP trying to tell people how they should live their lives or behave. Some people get a kick out of VGs, fine, they’re not harming anyone so let them do whatever the fuck they want, it’s their life for christ’s sake. And the worse is that some dumbasses are gonna gobble up that shit like it’s the holy gospel

Is this common in the FGC, because I swear the same shit happened to me and with buddies of mine.
But man, I will say during my travels, knowing the FGC has been well worth it.
I remember some animator made a YouTube video saying how video games have been a waste of time, and went on for a good 4 minutes on how pointless games are in his animation. Showing the “effects” of gaming (how he gained weight), effects on his social life (people ignoring/avoiding him), and so on.
Eventually, he thought “maybe there is something in gaming after all” and showed how people who game can all come together as one and support each other, using the Penny Arcade con as an example.
What made me laugh is the game of choice he used as an example of how gaming destroyed his life was WoW.
I never understood these type of people.
Like, if you take gaming THAT far, then that’s your fault, not the game. I feel like some of these people are so pathetic to face the mistakes they made in their lives, they need a scapegoat of some kind to blame in order to feel better about themselves. It’s like on Scar Face, how the dude made a sense at the restaurant and everyone around was shocked at his behavior. Then he pointed out “you need people like me. You need people like me, so you can point at me and be like, ‘Hey! That’s the bad guy!!’” which all in honestly, that’s 100 percent true. And at times, when “gamers” are feeling down and felt like they’ve been mistreated in some way, they point over to their gaming life and be like “fuck games! Media, look at what it’s done to me!!” and go about it from there.
Honestly, I don’t know how this reputation all started to begin with.
I remember people said back in the day, being a geek/gamer was considered really cool.
Now, it just means you never get laid.

In answer to your question however, it’s not what kind I date, but used to, ALL. Rich, poor, white, black, asian, mexican, fat, skinny. It truly does not matter.
