Arcana CRACK 3 - Weekly netplay ranbats!

where was the arcade at ikkebukuro? I wasn’t able to find it when i was there recently

also anyone has a saved stream of the ah3 sbo anywhere?

Lol. Stay free.

go back to Chuck E Cheese, you’ll find your little boys there

NAMBLA will hate it because there isn’t little boys in this game.

now THIS is shitpostin’.

Are you kidding? That would require people to actually think and try new things. Unfortunately, the people who would actually be willing to give this a fair chance before bashing it or avoiding it for the reasons you listed above are the minority (in the US anyway). It’s really hard to sell 2D games, fighters especially, in the US.

A lot of our consumers are more focused on 3D, so they would be more willing to buy a new Soul Calibur, Tekken, or any other 3D fighter over some 2D fighter with, “cutesy” anime graphics where 90% of the cast is underage. This is why I’ll be really surprised if Aksys actually bothers to localize this.

This game practically screams, “JAPAN ONRY” and the people who are actually interested in games like this aren’t really part of our main demographic. Granted, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger was localized and BlazBlue: Continuum Shift was also, but I think most people see those graphics as being a little more mature. In other words, Arcana Heart 3’s graphics are a bit more on the colorful side, so a lot of our insecure guys over here won’t bother picking it up to try it because it looks too, “girly”, lol.

I wish I was kidding, but I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve seen people ask stuff like, “Is this a game for girls?” if the game uses colors which are brighter and more radiant, or features underage girls like this game does. For whatever reason, a lot of guys in the US just don’t feel comfortable playing a game like this, so they would rather stick to their, “manly” Tekken and not even consider the other game’s gameplay mechanics or anything outside of the graphics. There would be very few people willing to buy this on a whim in the US if it is ever localized, but honestly…our biggest group of people that are willing to buy it are those that have been following the series and/or have already had experience with the arcade version of AH3.

All of that, plus the fact that Arcana Heart bombed horribly in the US, and the fact that we didn’t get AH2 (for obvious reasons, heh) doesn’t exactly put us in a position to be optimistic about a localization for AH3.

i don’t know if you missed it, but aksys put out deathsmiles.

i think that by comparison, ah3 is almost mainstream content.

i don’t think that the content is going to be a barrier to release, just whether or not it can turn a profit here.

while i’m pretty sure the only publishers that would touch it are atlus and aksys, aksys more so because of their relationship with arc, i still think ah3 is fair game for a domestic release here.

Good stuff Sabin, that will be a great way to spring launch AH3 out there

Don’t forget, tonight I’ll stream some pre-recorded AH3 matches and try to explain as much of the game as I can. I think it will be helpful towards people that don’t really get whats happening in AH3 right now.

At 9PM EST

how long you gonna be streaming? i wanna learn as much as possible before release.

why isnt this available for preorder yet at playasia?

it is at amiami…

While that may be true, we haven’t heard an announcement for Deathsmiles 2X yet, have we? Granted, it released in May for Japan, but that’s beside the point. My point is, Aksys took a risk with Deathsmiles just like Atlus did with Arcana Heart. Now that Aksys has seen how Deathsmiles sold, there is a small chance of them bringing 2X.

To be fair though, Cave has been really adamant about localizing their titles, so that lies more on them as to why their games have been coming over instead of Aksys stepping up. Now…Atlus knows how badly Arcana Heart sold in the US, so I’d be willing to bet they won’t even think of trying to release Arcana Heart 3. I’m sure Aksys also knows how badly AH sold, so that leads me to believe they won’t bother with it either.

If this was a totally new and fresh idea like BlazBlue was at the time, sure. However…we’ve seen how bad AH did here, so what would really give them the motivation to even bother localizing the third installment to a series they know will sell bad? I know I sure as hell wouldn’t bother with something like that.

I guess if they have enough money to take the, “dive” and afford to lose some profit just to satisfy a minority, then hey…more power to them. I think it would be great if they did release it in the US because it would gain more exposure, since the series certainly deserves it at this point, but to those actually really hoping for a localization…I’d be cautiously optimistic.

EDIT:

I was just thinking about NCSX, heh. What’s taking these guys so long? I already pre-ordered Tales of Graces F and that releases in December.

Oh sure, they have pre-orders for games in February and March, but Arcana Heart 3 is missing…which releases in January. Way to go guys.

SMH

Does anyone else keep getting redirected to adx.adnxs.com, which fails to load? I always end up with a white screen. Even the justin.tv homepage is giving me this problem.

Eventually I was able to avoid the redirect by mashing Stop. I was thinking of linking some other people to the stream, but not if justin.tv is having problems. =/

Edit: seems this problem happens on Firefox, but not IE.

To be fair, Atlus did no marketing for Arcana Heart. Just like they don’t do any marketing for half of their games. (Only thing they REALLY market is the Shin Megami Tensei games.) so I can see why AH flew under the radar. Especially when AH was already imported by the main crowd half a year before it’s release. At least if Aksys picked it up, it would get some type of love good or bad. Look at street fighter 4. all type of people play that game even though it’s 50/50 on who like it and who hate it.

and I really don’t want X2 over here. Considering how horrible it is compared to the first. But this is a whole different convo on it’s own.

I don’t want to sit here racking up back and forth comments on it in here. I just put a statement out there that could really apply to any game that’s not SFIV or a capcom fighter right now.

try mei-fang with magnetism.
or catherine with punishment.
just try those combinations out.

it’s pretty hard to not think of this game as anime/hentai stuff. like the cast is a bunch of kids and shit. but i hope this game get a following.

I think that went well

its just a “new school” fighter that falls in the blazblue, melty and GG category which hasn’t caught on yet in the west.

most peeps that play sprite based fighters are into the “old school” classic style of gameplay of SF/SNK.
thats all.
most old schoolers don’t want to give the new school of fighters a try since the gameplay is so different and unfamiliar.

by the way, a good old school fighter that sorta went under the radar is power instinct ps2.

Good stream tonight. Especially if you like Weiss or Nazuna.

It’s too bad the stream chat doesn’t get saved. If you watch the recording, you’ll probably hear Curbeh talking to invisible people a lot.

Edit: Until now, I never realized that the different Arcanas’ burst and EF© recharge times were so different, or that a raw Extend Force lasts longer than an Extend Force Cancel. Here’s a link to the chart:

http://arcana.mizuumi.net/index.php/Extend_Force

We concluded that the units are Game Seconds. To convert to Real Seconds, multiply by 1.5.

Yeah, GJ Curbeh, I’ll be looking forward to next week.

Yeah. Very good stream from Curbeh. He was very responsive to people on the stream. Especially with questions. Also, the wiki is looking great too. Nice touch with the changes facial expressions of the characters. Keep it up Curbeh.

Good seeing you on the stream too Bill.
