Can’t wait till they add pink and purple.
All,
Jaleel from focusattack.com here. Just wanted to inform you and a number of retailers that will stock the Sanwa OBSC-30 pushbuttons about the purported September release date
The article Keits posted on July 16 regarding the Sanwa clear pushbuttons (http://shoryuken.com/2011/07/16/sanwa-releasing-clear-pushbuttons/) indicated that Sanwa is releasing them in September. As a result, customers are being led to believe that September is the release date of these increasingly popular Sanwa Clear pushbuttons. The truth is that Sanwa may not release the buttons for official sale until November.
I have a supplier in Japan that also does business with Akihabarashop.jp, and recently asked them if I could order these buttons when they are released next month. The supplier clarified the November release with the following message:
*"About the new buttons from Sanwa. As you can guess we have constant and direct contact with Sanwa staff but also with the President and top managers. At this moment, Sanwa do not really now when the buttons will be available. *
*They are saying September because they plan to officially show and present the new product in the JAMMA Show in Makuhari but a very different matter is when their production is going to be ready. Knowing how they work, our expectation is that the production will be ready in November. *
Of course, some distributors that do not have much experience dealing with Sanwa believe September will be the actual release date but we do not think so.
Nevertheless, we are discussing with Sanwa in order to have the new buttons as soon as possible, we have so many inquires about the new product but Sanwa did not tell us anything yet.
Best regards,
…
"
The follow up article that was released (http://shoryuken.com/2011/08/06/clear-sanwa-pushbuttons-now-available/) also caused more inquiries into the Sanwa clear buttons. Many distributors can order samples of the upcoming buttons for review. It’s not customary practice to sell the samples. ArcadeShock decided to do this, selling them at a premium of their potential pricing. They are certainly free to do this if they want However Sanwa wouldn’t officially MSRP them at $4.75, because despite their popularity it would price them out of competition with Seimitsu’s PS-14-K or KN buttons.
Arcadeshop and anyone else reading this can take the information as they will - either consider it, or totally dismiss it. I’m just giving a heads up in case this retailer actually can’t actually get more buttons the following month, and was led to believe that September was the actual date because of the SRK article.
DAMN SO I BOUGHT A SET OF SAMPLES? WILL THE SAMPLE CHANGE FROM THE FINAL PRODUCT
TRIEU here from Arcadeshock. I would like to humbly respond to your observations.
For those who have purchased buttons from us, rest assured, they are the real deal and the final version. The buttons you received and/or will be receiving is NOT a beta version, but Sanwa’s final release.
Secondly, there is NO official release date per se of when these buttons can be sold and the units we received were NOT samples. Sanwa themselves can provide an approximate date of when the general masses will get it, but it doesn’t mean everyone will sell on the exact date and some will get them earlier than others. Furthermore, for a ‘sample’ to be a ‘sample’ they could have sent us just a few buttons, but a few thousand, that’s a lot of samples. Seriously, how many do you need to take a picture of it and ‘test’ it? I would say maybe a box or two, but NOT a few thousand buttons.
Once we receive a better price from our distributor, we will lower our price, which is our promise. Look at the other items we carry in our store, Hori sticks and the other solid color Sanwa buttons. We price them lower than most dealers (including Amazon.com) in the U.S. market, so when we do have an opportunity to provide a better value, we will. You should have mentioned our ‘other’ good deals in the store, we are surprised you didn’t.
So the roundup: Our buttons are the offiical final version of Sanwa’s clear pushbuttons and we will be restocking them in a few days, not with samples as some may claim, but with the official stuff. We will also be stocking the half-clear buttons as well.
To be frank, we were NOT given a discount for these buttons simply because other vendors wanted them as well, so we just went for it. We paid top dollar to get them in to the states first as they are in high demand everywhere, so after the EXPRESS shipping fee and transaction fee we had to pay to get these sooner, the profit margin is less than if we sold a Solid color Sanwa pushbutton, OBSF30. There is our price and for what we paid and hustled to get these in, the price is fair.
So please scrap the news about the official launch date and make people believe that these are ‘samples’ which some are to believe are not the final Sanwa version. You make it sound like people cannot purchase a button until someone officially rings a bell or ‘the’ distributor you mention says so. We don’t mind competition (like Amazon.com, Gamestop), but providing inaccurate information to serve other motives isn’t cool.
FYI, our distributor is the largest buyer of Sanwa buttons (besides Mad Catz and Hori who use them in their sticks) on this planet. That’s a lot of buttons.
Regards,
Arcadeshock
You’re good man. We shipped out the offiical and final version of Sanwa’s button. There will NOT be another version as some may have specified. When you get it, you’ll know it’s legit and the real deal.
TRIEU,
I believe that you misunderstood my notice, and were too hasty to defend your position here. Regardless whether you are getting samples (which I never said were not the final version), the point I was making was that Sanwa intends to officially show the product at JAMMA in September. There is no official date when the items will officially reach production quantity, but my distributor says that may not happen as early as September. Whether your distributor (which for all we know could be the same one I use) is getting them earlier is irrelevant. I posted the same news on my forum just so people constantly asking about them were aware, and thought it was prudent to mention it here as well because SRK is linking to your forum post.
You are selling limited quantities of a product that you were able to buy before they hit production. I buy thousands of buttons, too. Hey that’s fine - I’m glad that we’re able to do that. But since your forum post is center to a popular story, I wanted to mention what is happening here. You charged 4.75 - people on SRK that got wind of your sale immediately think that the regular pricing will be close to that, which led to some grumblings at how expensive they are. I stated in my post that since a price wasn’t set, they were sold at a premium - to be clear, an “early adopter” price. When the buttons are released, we’ll both price them reasonably.
Up until last week, I didn’t know that ArcadeShock existed. We all like to think our businesses is the biggest and the best in the FGC. For all we know, both of us run these businesses out of our house. Look at my site focusattack.com - presentation-wise, you could argue that a large company runs that as well. Regarding competition, I’m okay doing my thing and you doing yours. If you actually think that I’m competition, then I’m flattered. The post was not to rain on your parade, but to make others that read the original SRK post aware that Sanwa isn’t releasing these buttons right away, and potentially different than the pricing you offered them for. If you can get them earlier, then more power to you. I’ll offer and sell them just the same when they arrive at focusattack.com.
jmanDMC,
You may have your own perspective of what you wanted to say in your post, but being an outsider reading in, the perception is such that some believe they aren’t getting the legit final version. We just needed to clarify. Simple fact, everyone wants the best deal they can get, we absolutely get it and prices for most of our items show that we do offer very good deals. We are also a high end shop, sometimes getting items before anyone else, and in this case we did and we had to pay for it. In the end, those who received the buttons…are they happy with the buttons and our service? Overall, that is our concern, a balance of superior product, service and value.
Regarding the actual release times. Think of it this way. Has Capcom ever shown one of their titles at E3 or Comic Con after the game has already sold to the market? Of course they have, so likewise, Sanwa does not wait for a show to come around (JAMMA Show in Tokyo, JP) to start selling their buttons. They can announce an official showing, but they actually start selling to the market beforehand to start bringing in revenue. Whatever happens at the JAMMA Show is irrelevant to the rest of their business model and we’re sure it’s about moving product.
We’ve been around since 2003 and have been focused more on arcade gaming, but the market is changing and have now switched gears to the console market. Besides Harry Chang, who used to sell on srk.com for Hori sticks, we were the first retailer to sell HRAP sticks within the United States.
And finally, we never perceive ourselves as being the biggest or best. Far from it (not when you have Amazon as the biggest dog in the industry). But we do a lot of things better than them, that because of their size, they can’t just switch gears and make that transition, but that being said, they are Amazon and it’s a continual battle and it keeps everyone in top shape.
Factor in the shipping charges most sellers out there charge for their buttons and they will find our price isn’t that bad after all, especially when they can get them within a few days after they place their order.
no complaints im installing my set as we speak damn they fell nice
Any pictures?
How do they feel? Do they feel like sanwa buttons?
Wonderful, thanks!
From the testing I’ve done, the buttons feel just like the OBSF’s.
We have restocked on all of the clear buttons, and have just gotten in the semi clear buttons. We’ll have individual pics up on the site soon. The semi white and semi black are beautiful. I personally like them more than the full translucent buttons, but if you guys are going for LED/art on the inside, the full translucent are the way to go. LED’s will work in the semis, but only the ring will light up.
Have you put LED’s in the semis yet? I’d really like to see that if you have the time.
We have received several emails and pms about the HRAP sale in the thread title. I have not been able to edit the thread title since the move to the new forum software, and we currently do not have an HRAP sale going on. All sticks that are available are selling at our regular price.
Sorry for the grief. What would you like the title to read? I’ll edit it.
No problem sir. If you need it edited in the future feel free to message me or d3v.
Thanks, Kyle!
