Arcade stick positioning problem

was thinking about posting this in tech section instead, but it doesn’t seem to fit. so this stays here until it gets changed or something.

when I sit down to play, sometimes despite me inputing 2A, I end up getting 3A or 1A because my either sitting angle or gesture changed or the stick box moved or slipped for a second, and I end up doing the wrong moves that cost me the match. it’s frustrating because I simply can’t tell until I have pressed a button. I put the stick on my lap and the stick is decently big so my lap is covered. I sit upright to use the stick and the stick doesn’t move that much, but shit happens.

I don’t think I am the only one so I want to know how you deal with the positioning problem. pad doesn’t have this problem but I don’t feel my hands are comfortable using pad for fighting game.

Besides just trying to practice more at keeping your hands/stick in the same position, you can get yourself a folding tray table (or something else sturdy) to set your stick on. Alternatively you can be like some other people and try playing on the floor.

I make it a point to keep elbow movement to a minimum while playing and my stick barely ever moves. But besides everything else there are also some stuff you can put on the bottom of your stick to make it grip your lap better, its like shelf liner or something.

  1. You can learn to just use quick and simple motions, to prevent your body and stick from moving around too much.

  2. You can put the stick on the floor. It might be at an uncomfortable angle, but that’s what you’ve got to deal with.

  3. You can put the stick on a chair in front of you. It’ll be more stable, and at a better angle than playing on the floor.

  4. Build or order a custom stand that you can use to increase the stability of the stick, and make it more like an arcade cabinet.

Sadly, you’ve got limited options, especially if you attend offline sessions in your local area, or at majors. You’ll just have to practice playing with the stick on your lap until you’ve gotten used to the stick moving around.
