Anyway to combo into tatsu on a crouching opponent?

to combo the tatsu I like crossing up with mk and then doing c.hp -> tatsu or you can also go for a long combo that will use some of the super bar such as c.lp->c.lp->c.mk->fireball->focus attack dash cancel -> c.hp -> (lk)tatsu -> goshoryuken

Thanks guys, I was mostly looking to see if i managed to land a c.lk on a crouching opponent and caught them, what I could do after that to combo into a tatsu --> uppercut combo. Got a lot of different answers here, i’ll give it a shot when I get home

it’s the tradeoff akuma suffers. He has no real good answer for all situations for a good damage combo on someone crouching.

Yes, you can link c.jab > c.fierce to stand them up, but that’s a really tight link and there’s no room for hit confirm. You have to be sure it connects or you’re gonna eat a punish.

If your opponent is crouching you have to burn some meter or gamble a little.

this sentence just made my head explode a little.

I’d say EX Tatsu nets quite a bit of damage, and EX Fireball is pretty good as well, plus, knockdowns! Double plus, either of them in a corner sets up an HP SRK juggle.

lol but it’s assumed that the opponent is crouching

TAT.ex does tons of damage!
1 ex.bar to add 200dmg… that’s really good! Also safe on block if you stuffed up

it will stand him up if it links, just tested it took me a good while to link s.lp to c.hp but i was able to connect an lk.tatsu on them after

yes but how do u hit them with s.lp when they’re crouching?

Yes it is a good option. Just saying that if you get in on a crouching opponent at the beginning of a match, you wouldn’t have any real decent options in that situation (no meter), you’d have to tack on a normal FB or go for a reset DF

Indeed, although I was getting waxed with resets all yesterday, so those seem like a pretty sick option in its own right.

Actually Akuma does have a combo on a crouching opponent.

cr. lk, cr. lp > cr. mp xx Hado xx FADC xx st. hk > BnB

Even works from a crossed up crouching opponent. Imho it’s one of the nicest looking combo’s of Akuma’s.

Does a decent amount of damage (around 400 I think? not sure)

i think the OP meant a crouching opponent combo without the use of EX meter, tho…else EX tatsu would have been a viable option for him (as mentioned in one of the above posts), but he says no.

Ohhh ok, my bad

Resets are a high-risk, high-reward. You can destroy people, or you can take some nasty damage if your opponent guesses right.

training mode

lol, that one went completely over your head. s.lp is the connotation for standing light punch, which does not connect on crouching opponents. it whiffs.

so either your opponent was standing and s.lp connected, or you mean c.lp.

Close standing LP hits some chars crouching, it depends on height. In theory, the combo should work, but I still wouldn’t use it as it seems like it would be too range-limited, and whiffing the cr.HP is bad bad news.

Imo, on crouching chars, your meterless jab combo of choice is

cr.LP->cr.LP, confirm LP srk

As it always works regardless of range.

You sure about a s.lp wiffing on crouched opponents?

Also Muken that’s probably a better idea than wat I usually do on crouching opponents which is cr.lk->cr.lp, cr.mp->fireball

Yeah, LP srk will give more damage and a knockdown.

Also, except in surprise mixup situations like empty demon flip, I generally prefer starting chains with cr.lp over cr.lk. More damage and faster startup. You generally don’t get hits because of hitting low, since people block low by default. The extra 1 frame of speed is more worthwhile to me than the low property.
