Anyone else not buying into the SFV hype?

You mean sales don’t mean everything? What?

Some people should know by now that the gringos love sf’s dick on their ass.
It is why It is so big there regardless of the quality of the game.

Arguing about this is simply futile.

I disagree with this, since its popularity is by region basis.

Sf’s main stronghold is usa, just look at japan their home country, where sf hasnt been the big thing in more than 16 years.

Competitive wise, it doesn’t.

No need to be racist and assholish about it.

I love SF and I’m proud of my “team”. Don’t let the cigar burn your lips

Is gringo really a racial slur?

DSP has to be one of those guys who believe the lunar landing was fake, 9/11 was an inside job, harambe was took down for political purposes and so on.
In the video he says that he is not involved in the whole fgc community and so he can express an impartial opinion on sfv. Ten seconds later he reminds us that he is a youtuber and that he lives off the number of views his videos do. Sure thing a video about how shit is the “new” game is not meant to stir things up and gain followers and haters…yeah right.
He says that sfv is imbalanced because if you don’t have a 3 frame move or an invincible reversal your character sucks. He, then, says nash, who has none of the above, is top tier. Mika is considered top tier - she doesn’t have an invincible reversal. Ken is considered top tier - he doesn’t have a “3 frame spammable move”. Vega places high in the tier lists - no invincible reversal.
In his words, you need this two tools to be a top tier. Then he says the dlc characters all suck because they don’t have these options. Except that juri does have both a 3 frame move and an invincible reversal, balrog has a 3 frame jab, and guile/ibuki/urien have a shoryu like move.
He talks about the dreaded 8 frames. “The game is laggy and delayed”. Then he praises kof 14, which now has the same input lag as sfv.
I’m not going to comment about the bingo thing because that’s just strawmanning to its finest

I liked the part of the video where he jerked it

Yo, 9/11 was definitely an inside-job

I only got to your first sentence before I needed to reply. The rest pertaining to SF - well, carry on amongst yourselves…

Well, since we’re talking about DSP again, he said that Capcom wasn’t going to release new versions of SFV(SSFV, USFV, etc.), but it was my understanding that they just said they wouldn’t make people pay for updated versions. Is he right? I think if Capcom really got their shit together, they could wipe the slate clean with an SSFV update. Fix the netcode, the glaring issues on PC, rebalance, and so on.

They’d have to be super careful with their wording and how they title it because morons would be quick to jump on them with the "they said they wouldn’t put out a Super Street Fighter they lied!

They would just need to advertise it well and ensure people that its an optional purchase. Previous updates in SFIV and other Capcom games were mandatory purchases which is what pissed people off. You were barred from updates and online play unless you put the money down.

The newer updates would just be a physical way to buy into the current content or service at a discount. Like the new Definitive Edition KI. SFV is now a service that you pay for one time and buy into.

To be fair, didn’t he make Top 8 at EVO and was the highest ranked American player that year?

Isn’t that how MKXL did it? I think that would work out well. It would certainly allow them to get away from all the initial negative launch reviews, though I’m sure some people on steam and metacritic would just copy/paste theirs onto the new game page.

Of course, it would be pointless unless Capcom gets it together.

To be fair, KOFXIV was most likely built with that in mind just like how even jabs in 3D games go around 7-9 frames rather than super quick in 2D fighters.

It was a messed up port of SF2 and he never replicated the success since.

They say that sfv was built with the delay in mind too…

I was being surreptitious but that creates another topic in regards to that, the validity of his placing because of port issues. Technically, if you discredit Phil’s placing that year, you also have to discredit Gian’s, Nuki’s, AND Tokido’s taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively. They have a plethora of accolades but if there is such an uproar of the version of ST used, then these shouldn’t count either. Same with ST: AE the following year. You can pick versions of the characters from previous games. That’s not ST. I know the differences between ST and the PS1 version of the game but if the Japanese overlords take the tournament and the regular players that normally do well place where they belong, isn’t the core of the game still the same?

Let me use an example: X-Men vs SF. The port to the Sega Genesis? Pretty much a near perfect replica of the arcade version. To the PS1? Absolutely not. Because of memory limitations, you couldn’t even tag in your partner character. Secondly, rounds were 2 out of 3 versus the 1 round that was present in the arcade. For all intents and purposes, THAT was a messed up port. That changed the entire ESSENCE of the game. I’m not trying to start anything, I just think it’s a very interesting topic and want to know what you guys think.

All you guys talking about brand popularity and shit, I honest to God had no idea who Ryu or Scorpion were as a kid. But I always heard of people talking about Mortal Kombat at least a little.

I’m pretty sure its way more popular, even if it is trash. Damn near everyone plays MKX but I know like one dude who owns SFV, but he doesn’t play it.

That said, if the argument was about time played per player, I think SF blows MK away.

Yeah I definitely think MKX is much more of a “kick it with the bros” fighting game that shows up at gatherings and parties. I doubt many people are busting out SFV casually at events especially with content only recently starting to get into the game.

The people that do play SFV hardcore though I’m sure play it hours a day or it may even be the only game they play.

That didn’t really piss people off, that was just normal for street fighter. Shit balance changes pissed people off. I was calling for a SSF5 a month after release, seems logical , let the current owners update for free, let the new players buy a version of the game that actually functions - everyone’s a winner.

That’s a pipe dream though, Capcom are not throwing anymore resources at this because it’s too risky now they’ve got their drip feed model.

I know lots of players that started SF4 in Super or AE, I can’t see why that couldn’t be the same for 5.

I’d rather a scenario where I feel ripped off but my game gets fixed rather than playing an unfinished game because " that’s what we said we would do with our model"

I’d slap $70 straight down without a thought if they did a lower lag, battlelounge ( working) complete game with all stages and characters.

That’s because Mortal Kombat had a notoriety that SF didn’t due to reasons outside of it’s characters and games i.e the violence. The violence was one of the first of it’s kind and was one of the reasons for the creation of ESRB. Mortal Kombat also had movies that didn’t blow, marketing the likes no one had seen, and what James Chen the other day said is very important, catchy aspects about the game. “Get over here!”, THAT MUSIC, Fatalities, etc. Of course the United States ate that up. It’s more popular with the casual audiences who know nothing about fighting games. Point in case, I just asked my sister to name me as many Mortal Kombat characters and Street Fighter characters. She named Sub Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, “Guy who did the bicycle kick”, “Guy who did the nut punch.”. For SF? Ryu and Chun Li. When growing up, we played both the original Mortal Kombat for SF2 but obviously not hardcore so I definitely do think it’s more popular in terms of brand.

But MK blows as a fighter.
