Anti-Phoenix Strategy/Teams

Hi Guys, I’m new here. Can i ask what can i improve to beat Phoenix?

I feel that i can improve somewhere… Please give me some hints/tips about it. Thanks!

he wired < > to buttons so he can use the block glitch to prevent crossups…

So we got some anti phoenix strats now how about teams and why they works vs her.

Nini’s anti phoenix strat. NEEDS CORNER and 2 meters and Zero and Dante.

Snap>Meaty Million Carats>Devil Trigger>XF>Call Zero Shippuga> J.236S>J.236S>Fly>J.236S x 4. Phoenix is dead. The margin for error is quite small. You need to be at the perfect height distance to lock her in blockstun from the 236S s to prevent her from tagging out and from super jumping out during the fly. She can escape this setup if done perfectly in only one way and it’s by using her super during the fly.

If the phoenix comes in swinging or pressing buttons, she gets tagged by meaty Million Carats.

hope it helps:)

This should be cross counterable though.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Not hating. Just saying.

Yep, it is. Bitch is losing one meter though, so that’s a small victory in itself. Next time you snap her, she has less health so easier to chip.

Copy pasta from a post I made on GameFAQs.

One thing you could do to give your time to combat Dark Phoneix is killing Jean Grey in a air combo. You can avoid getting hit by transformation explosion in the air than you can on the ground. Transformation explosion works like any full screen attack in Marvel 3. If you not on the screen when full screen transformation hits, you are safe. What will happen is when she turns into Dark Phoenix in the air, she can not activate X-Factor in the mid air, and she can choose to stay in the air. The Phoenix Force has to make herself drop into the ground, and XF to avoid getting her kill. The reason for this is simple…

You don’t actually want to kill Phoenix with 5 bars in the ground, she can combo off of her explosion with XFC. She gets the X-factor cancel out of her transformation frames when she is killed in the ground. This is also means that Phoenix automatically can start her rampage on the ground. She can hard tag take advantage of the explosion’s hard tag.

TL: DR there is no reason NOT to make resurrect Dark Phoenix purposely in the air.
@49:00 when ClakeyD aircombo Phoenix. Notice how she instantly can’t activate X-Factor?

I don’t know if this strategy is viable or not, but it has worked for me in the past. Maybe the Jeans I play are just stupid or maybe it actually works.

The way I go by the Phoenix matchup is that I actually save up my meter. If you stay on the offense and you get your combos going, you’re more likely to get five bars before the other guy. After that, I bring out my Phoenix.

…I kid, I kid. Basically, I feel the best way to kill Phoenix or Dark Phoenix is to chip her to death before she hits the ground as she’s coming in. With five bars, you’re more likely to chip her to death, maybe as far as chipping both Phoenix and Dark Phoenix. Now this obviously differs from team to team. I find myself mostly comfortable with this when I’m playing Wesker/Dormammu/Storm or Spider-Man. Wesker usually builds the meter, snap Jean in, Floating bomb, X-Factor, floating bomb, DHC to hail Storm if you’ll be needing the extra chip or Spider-Man, just incase she fully transforms to Dark Phoenix.

I’m not very creative, so this is the least situational strategy I could think of. Works against the people I’m playing though. If this fails, hey, you could always mash and hope for the best.

Works better with 4 bars and a character that can chip.

Snapback, Super XFC Super DHC Super.

Zero Dorm Doom.

Stay in the corner with Dorm, flame carpet when she’s not on the ground. You will trade and ultimately come out winning every time. Doom Missiles stop her air BS. Doom: Photon into Finger lasers, Finger lasers as soon as she throws ground fireball, unless she has super.

Phoenix is broken.

Any anti-phoenix tips for my team? Wesker/ Tasky/ Akuma. I always get a snap in with Wesker but if I mess up the incoming mixup (usually the jump loop to catch fireballs, fly or dash) then Wesker is basically useless against her it seems. My only hope if snap back fails is random up arrow or super jump beam Hyper. So frustrating when Phoenix does sj salty balls if i dont have any meter.

I feel as though while Mags is the best Phoenix killer by himself, X-23 is the best if you have a partner that’s still alive. She can kill any Phoenix/DP (beginner or advanced) as long as you have atleast 3-4 bars depending on how your opponent plays. IMO: There are only two types of Phoenix players. There are the ones that bring her out when they approx. or exactly 5 bars and the ones who leave her last so she can XF cancel her transformation -> ABC Dead combo.

If they’re the first type you only need 3 bars. I honestly just say “Fuck it” and let them obtain DP while saving atleast 4 bars as well (although you technically only need 3). After they obtain DP and tag her out, kill off the other two characters. If you’re using X-23, try to kill them w/o using a hyper or she probably won’t have time to do Dirt Nap. If using a different character, perform a hyper and DHC into Dirt Nap. Just before Phoenix comes in, use an assist like Jam Session, Liberation (2C1D works best), etc to lock her in the air. She has to block or eat the attack and X-23 can jump up and press S which will always hit and instantly kill Phoenix. I dont have anyone to help me test this but I believe if you do Dirt Nap, jump up and do QCF+M with proper timing, this also puts them in a position where they must block or get hit and X-23 can kill Phoenix with Dirt Nap afterwards.

If they like to leave Phoenix last, you’ll need 4 bars and a character with a hyper who’s hyper stays on the screen even after they leave. I think Tron is the best to use in this situation. The objective is to get Phoenix at low health and make her block King Servbot. After activating Tron’s hyper, DHC into Dirt nap. King Servbot will kill Phoenix (even if she blocks if her health is low enough) and when DP comes in she’ll have to block or get hit and you can connect Dirt Nap. If she’s DP already then she obviously doesnt have to be low on health.

The best part about these strategies are that they’re not chip strategies so even when UMvC3 comes out she cant aerial XF to stay alive.

on mvc3 online when i beat a player who uses a non-phoenix team with a non-phoenix team, they hit the rematch button. 9 times out of 10 they are gonna whip out a phoenix team because of salt. to counter this i have a pocket phoenix team as well to even the playing field. that is how i deal with phoenix. fight fire with fire.
