My mains are Alex and Dudley. I’ve noticed more players using Hugo and playing a very turtle/Justin Wong styled game. Hugo has the best pokes in the game aside from Chun, doing huge damage, relatively fast, reach half way across the screen, and are pretty safe on block. I’m not a very Parry-oriented player, whenever I try to predict what they’re going to do and try to parry it, it doesn’t end very well for me. So, if I try to jump in and expect to parry, they do nothing, they just block or do they a random move that catches me completely off guard.
Well generally, you have to beat Hugo at a distance because his 360/720 hurts really bad(just four can kill the twins, yeesh). Stand just outside of his pokes’ max ranges and counter with yours(which does wonders for Dudley, but we’ll get to that in a bit). Hugo’s pokes may have good blockstun, but the recovery on some of them are terrible(Chun can counter Hugo’s blocked cr.MK with reversal SA2 within max distance).
Sorry I’m a bit short on time right now, I’ll talk about Dudley for the time being.
Dudley eats Hugo practically for free because he has a much better ground game. His far-reach attacks such as HP, f.HP, MP, and HK are very good at keeping Hugo away, and HK is what can shut down Hugo’s mid-hit pokes(MP, cr.MP, Claps), in which you can combo into EX MGB and get your free juggle for good damage. If Hugo whiffs his MP, cr.MP, cr.MK or any other pokes that recover somewhat slow, you can command dash->Super to punish their recovering whiffs. If Hugo jumps towards you, you can command dash under them and Super. This is one of the more important things to keep in mind when playing against Hugo since one of his main offensive options is to jump onto Dudley.
Also, keep in mind EX Backswing Blow. Unless that Hugo can red-parry pretty well, EX BSB is safe on wakeup against Hugo. If you end up close and feel he’s gonna throw, BSB and super on reaction.
That’s about it for now, I’ll let everyone else talk about Alex or fill in anything I missed on the Dudley matchup.
