Another UK stick build

Now dats how it shud be done!

Im giving serious thought to doing my own custom. Having brought a SF4 SE recently (no TEs available) i played on it for about an hour and hated it.

Being a hardcore SF fan since SF2 the SE stick does not do it justice, infact i was disgusted that this stick even carries the SF branding.

Now im afraid il also hate the TE too… if i ever got my hands on one that is.

The square gate, the buttons, the stick… its just all wrong, nothing like being in the arcade… and im playing on a 42" 1080p screen goddamn it!

Threads like this inspire me to get off my arse and do something about it, my only problem being i dont have the right tools.

If anyone in the UK is willing to whack one together for me then let me know, obviously i would make it worth ur while. Even just a blank box would do me (though a pre soldered PCB would be nice.)

TBH the whole custom stick thing is non existant in europe, hence why us guys come here… if only someone would fill this gap in the market… nudge nudge wink wink say no more say no more!

can you not wedge tiny folds of paper to prevent the buttons from moving? i am looking at the bottons now and i think you could fold a few tiny pieces of paper in there to make it that little bit tighter, hope it helps!

m8, where did you get the wires from, and what amp terminal strip did you use?

That might work but I think they’d come loose after a few hours of mashing :bgrin:

The wire is all from www.rapidonline.com (honestly, they’re not paying me for advertising :bgrin:). It’s solid core single, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it but it does the job of holding everything in place as an added bonus!

The terminal strip is just a standard strip, nothing special. The current is so low you could use anything.

Dave

Cool, thanks, was in B&Q the other day but wasn’t sure which terminal strip to get.

Hopefully my Cthulhu should turn up in the next couple of weeks. Now I just need to find a nice long white USB cable to match my case

After 13 hours of heavy usage (including me hitting it in frustration multiple times (very hard)) it’s still in one piece and still functioning beautifully. This really was a good design for me, I love it :bgrin:

how is the flex on the top board? (i am going with 9mm mdf) and am wondering about supports

Hi mate, just recently registered on these forums after looking at your custom Arcade stick thread, I’m from the UK also and would really like to know where you get all of your arcade stick parts from.

I’m pretty newbie to the whole scene of making an arcade stick but I love doing stuff like this so I’m going to give it a go.

Really I’m looking into how you got the custom artwork perspex from and the buttons/stick. I also want to know how you’ll be connecting it to your system of choice (for me it’s Xbox 360).

any help or links would be great if you can find the time, thanks.

Most people in the UK get their parts from gremlin solutions, google em.

The art is printed on an a4 sheet of paper on a regular printer and placed under a sheet of clear acrylic.

Have fun.

What did you use to get the smooth round edges on the top of your stick? A router with a round bit? Did it come that way from B&Q?

dude read what he bought… its skirting board!

No flex at all with the middle supports in place, if I’d just used the corner supports I think it would have broken by now :looney:

The round profile is how the skirting board came, no extra work for me! :bgrin:

fucking awesome man! made my day! hell month, besides my birthday!

Heh, happy birthday :bgrin: The artwork is awesome!!

Woohoo I now have an MC Cthulu inside instead of a PSX pad + convertor and it’s working beautifully. I used a 5m USB cable so I can finally sit on my sofa when I’m playing instead of an armchair next to the TV

Thoroughly recommended, now I just need a common-ground 360 pad to finish it up :bgrin:

pics or it didn’t happen hehe

just out of curiosity how much did you pay for the board and shipping and how long did it take? (i am wondering because those things looks so damn good its unreal)

man a wood stick is so class compared to a plastic one!

Heh, pics coming later

I paid ~$30 shipped from gamingnow.net. It took a while to arrive(~ 2.5 weeks) as I believe Nareg was pretty busy but he upgraded the Cthulhu I originally ordered to an MC Cthulhu as a “sorry” which was nice

It is really nice to work with. I ordered the kit and soldered it together which was nice and easy following the excellent Instructables.com step-by-step Toodles published.

I still haven’t found a way to fix it down but the stiff wire + cableties are currently holding it in place anyhow so I’ll see how I get on.

Here you go, internal pics with MC Cthulhu (only wired for USB so far).

Well I finally got the Madcatz PCB wired up a few months ago and have been enjoying SSF4 on the Xbox360 for the past couple of weeks.

This stick has certainly taken some punishment but I think I need a new acrylic top as the number of times I’ve punched it is taking it’s toll :wgrin:

Time to get a pre-cut top I guess

Has anyone figured out a 360 PCB yet or is it still just pad-hacking?
