Anime & Manga Thread v.5 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Welcome to 2017

Grave of the Fireflies is ridiculously overrated. The only part of the movie I even batted an eye at was what happened to their mother, and that was in the beginning. Then it was just the brother being a complete moron for the entire movie. Sad the girl had a retard for a brother. I wouldn’t even say it was that tragic. They went out pretty easy compared to others in that war. Don’t see what was so special that they deserved a movie!

Saddest Anime ever: Grave of Fireflies
Most twisted ending: School Days
Funniest: Azumanga Daioh
Deepest: Death Note
Most violent: Elfin Lied
Best Mecha: Code Geass
Most psychological: Monster
Cutest: Shugo Chara
Sexiest: Vampire Knight
Most perverted: Queens Blade
Best Action: Cowboy Bebop
Best all around: Pretty Cure
Character you most relate to: Haruhi or Kyon.

There, you no longer have to watch anime, you can just use that list to pick up boys and girls at conventions.

Little Witch Acadamei was quite enjoyable to watch…but the fact it was so short made all the predictable bits come to head all the much faster. I mean, there was like 15 minutes inbetween the haughty girl and her sycophants doing their heel face turn and appreciating the underdog and their bravery. I was also expecting Chariot to tell Akko about how she used to be a bumbling, unpopular and untalented witch but worked hard to bring magic into people’s lives…but it ended before she ever go the chance. Would have liked to see more o Dopey.

starvation is def not an easy way to go out. having your body literally eat itself to death. come on brah.

i feel like your tiering has to be the greatest trolling in this thread in a long while.

Well, it is Kromo, the full-time troll/seriousguy

Elfen Lied? Most Violent? No.

Elfen Lied was graphic if anything.

No doubt it was graphic. I did enjoy the show. Down Syndrome pokemon sub personality and all.
But it certainly doesn’t take the title of “Most Violent”.

real talk, if there was another season of Vampire Knight I would watch it.

To those of you who haven’t caught my post on the upcoming site improvement threads, try uploading an avatar with a resolution of exactly 500x500.

Those same people who do things in the name of science, help me test a control theory by uploading your exact same current avatar.

*This actually works good find. I just took my av put it in a MS paint page of 500x500 even though it’s 200x200. Then pploaded it to SRK and used the “edit thumbnail” function to zoom in on the actual image. It definitely improved how my av looks on the forum.

Good theory you worked out there. *

I still have yet to watch it  One of my friends had me help her make the logo for it as an emblem on Black Ops 2 though. That’s the only reason I heard about. The vampire knight logo is a clusterfuck of rotating squares and circles :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay non-blurry avatar.

I have no idea what the hell is supposed to be airing this Spring or if any of it will be any good.

Chihayafuru 2 - 12

Spoiler

[]Megumu plays up the role of being ‘ordinary, sharp-tongued, and popular’ quite well, but she also appears to be a bit overconfident/cocky as she ‘mistakenly’ sits in front of the Fujisaki team and later says that they (Akashi) should already play the team finals match, as she completely overlooks Mizusawa.
[
]The match begins and Megumu starts off quite well against Chihaya and takes the opening card(s). Chihaya notices that Megumu’s speed has improved from last year. Sudo notices that Megumu is forcing Chihaya to play defensively, which Chihaya realizes through the sending of cards from her opponent’s side and is something unfamiliar to her offensive-focused style. Some of the onlookers feel that Akashi will have an easy win and that the real match to watch will be Hokuo vs. Fujisaki.
[]Tsukuba is a bit worried for some of Mizusawa’s players: Kana, who has continually played in all of the team matches but has lost in some close matches, though she’s doing quite well for the moment. Komano, who only now participating in his first team match. Chihaya, the team’s ace, who is the one to set the pace for the team’s overall performance, but is behind in the early goings of the match. Also, Tsukuba tries to play up to his little brothers that he led Mizusawa to the semis, but even he realizes that his bravado can’t quite match up to the reality of his shortcomings.
[
]Though Chihaya remembers some advice from Harada and Komano about cards particular to one’s name and their positioning, Megumu is able to take those cards though Chihaya’s attempts are noticed in the exchange.
[]The various team coaches/advisors also have some stake in their player’s well-being: Miyauchi thinks of her players a bit more. The Akashi coach recalls Megumu’s experience with Karuta and the team’s focus on helping Megumu become Queen and a stronger player after her quick rise then fall following her Queen qualifying match last year.
[
]Chihaya is able to take a card, one that has particular meaning to herself and Kana, that evokes a shared memory between them. Kana recalls the poem and it’s meaning, which she feels will be a defining moment for herself and the team. Chihaya notes that the weather has cleared up and she now has a renewed sense of focus, drawing inspiration from the card.
• I think this might be a moment in which Kana gets to shine and possibly get a decisive win in the process.
 • Megumu… She’s a little bit of everything, isn’t she?
 • The Megumi Hayashibara sighting was a nice surprise and hopefully she gets more screen-time (probably with the Fujisaki match stuffs).

Magi - 24, 25 (END)

Spoiler

[]As Dunya is about to unleash her charged Extreme Magic attack upon Alibaba, Aladdin, and Hakuryuu, Aladdin tries to interfere by using some newly acquired water/steam magic. Isaac counters the young Magi’s attempts and attacks Alibaba. As Alibaba is overwhelmed by Isaac, who goes to deliver a finishing blow, Hakuryuu steps in front of Alibaba to shield him and loses his left arm in the process. Dunya then unleashes her Extreme Magic upon the trio.
[
]Sharrkan, Masrur, and Yamraiha encounter some enemy dark metal vessel users. Though initially overwhelmed, both Sharrkan and Masrur appear to easily dispatch their attackers once they utilize their own metal vessels. While Yamraiha is preoccupied with her opponent, Pisti attempts to attack the dark ‘mass’ that approaches Sindria with her animal/monster taming stuffs, but her efforts are nullified by the ominous, encroaching presence.
[]Dunya feels confident that her Extreme Magic has succeeded, but she is surprised to learn that she only targeted an illusion that was created by Aladdin’s water/steam magic. Alibaba takes the opportunity to attack Isaac, whose appearance is nothing more than an amalgamation of sand held together by magoi, which runs out and causes him to expire. Dunya laments the loss of Isaac (yet again, due to a past memory) and Ithnan makes a move to eliminate Dunya, whose role has ‘concluded’.
[
]The action shocks the trio and as Alibaba goes to check on the injured Dunya, black rukh begin to accumulate and Alibaba learns of Dunya’s past, which is tragic due to how things turned out in the end, causing Dunya to curse her ‘fate’.

Ithnan tells Alibaba that his ‘fate’ brings destruction and suffering all around him and was influenced by Ithnan himself, per the agenda of Al-Thamen. Alibaba then succumbs to hopelessness/despair and after more black rukh accumulate and then disperse, Alibaba reappears as an advent for the dark forces - a dark king that Al-Thamen has long sought after.
• While Dunya’s Extreme Magic: Rea Baldo was executing, I randomly thought about other ‘attacks’ that it reminded me of, lol.
 • Aladdin wielding various magic stuffs is interesting, mainly for the possibility of combo stuffs.
 • ‘Dark’ Alibaba rises…

[]Morgiana shows up to help Aladdin and Hakuryuu stop Alibaba. After Hakuryuu calls forth the djinn Zagan, who regenerates his lost arm with a substitute, the trio launch a multi-part attack to break the dark rukh that is influencing Alibaba. Success is achieved and Aladdin enters Alibaba’s soul to get his friend back.
[
]Yamraiha finds herself being overwhelmed by her opponent’s (an old man) attacks. When the old man enacts his Extreme Magic and attacks with an energy beam, Yamraiha reflects the energy beam with a magical shield and uses it to burn away a large portion of the dark mass that is steadily approaching upon Sindria. Afterwards, the old man is dispatched with some assistance from another of the Eight Generals, Spartos.
[]Aladdin makes his way to Alibaba and the Magi reaches out to his friend, saying that he continues to believe in Alibaba, who has inspired/helped many people on his journey despite having made mistakes.
[
]After Kougyoku dons her Djinn Equip and disperses the rest of the dark mass that is encroaching upon Sindria with a tidal wave, Ithnan realizes that the attempt to take Sindria is lost. Sinbad teleports to where Ithnan is and Ithnan obliges Sinbad in combat despite the Sindrian King still being cursed. However, Sinbad overcomes Ithnan’s curse and says that he is cursed, then he launches an attack that completely obliterates Ithnan. Sinbad makes a remark about how Alibaba is important in regard to the future of the world.
[]While Aladdin and Alibaba search for the dark that still lies within Alibaba, the duo encounters Ithnan, who is nothing but a shadow after his encounter with Sinbad. Ithnan speaks about the ideal of the Organization, which is to ‘free’ humanity from destiny via dark influence. Aladdin argues for the sake of destiny to give guidance and purpose. After Ithnan highlights his past with Solomon, Alibaba is faced with the decision to end Ithnan’s existence, but he lets him live and Aladdin purifies him before sending Ithnan away to the beyond.
[
]Aladdin awakens first, then Alibaba, who has recovered from being cursed. The light rukh gather and Isaac appears to comfort an injured Dunya and Kassim appears as well, with Aladdin commenting on his help with Alibaba. While the group is making their exit from Zagan’s dungeon (with the missing villagers), Aladdin and Alibaba talk about the future journey that they will take together.

Highlights of the ending sequence: Sinbad gives a speech to the Eight Generals about their victory and to look forward to the future. Judal is having a convo with a prince of Kou, who looks forward to meeting Sinbad. The other two Magi are shown: a girl and an old man. Finally, a mysterious man who is narrating the ending sequence is shown.
• The dark ‘mass’ reminded me of Nightmare from DMC, for some reason, with a mix of Naraku’s miasma.
 • Expected a bit more from the Organization ‘flunkies’ considering they flaunted their Extreme Magic but got dealt with quite easily.
 • It seems Sinbad has an agenda of his own concerning Alibaba and it appears that Sinbad is quite powerful despite being ‘cursed’.
 • Ithnan’s flashback stuffs with the events in Solomon’s time was interesting to see.

I enjoyed watching Magi, which looks like it could have the potential to be a long-running series.
There’s a nice mix of action, drama, mystery, and comedy, along with an interesting world as a backdrop.
Hoping to see more of this series in the future.

Minami-ke Tadaima - 12, 13 (END)

[]New Year’s celebration stuffs with the Minami Sisters and their friends.
[
]Kana is the odd one out: Her friends channel Kansai-ben in one scene, excluding her from participating in the convo stuffs. In another scene, Chiaki and her friends gang up on Kana in a snowball fight.
• ‘Banchou’ Haruka makes an appearance at Kana’s expense (snowball fight).
 • ‘Oni’ Chiaki has no effect on Haruka.
[]It’s springtime and some people are suffering from allergies/hay fever, like Uchida and Makoto. Chiaki also suffers some ailments, but it turns out that she has an ‘allergy’ to Kana’s baka-ness.
[
]Fujioka (unconsciously) shows off his soccer skills, Kana teases her ruined otome status for marriage due to Fujioka’s actions, and Riko worries about the meaning of Kana’s statement.
[]Hayami inspires Hosaka to explore fava beans for food stuffs. Later, Chiaki is inspired with new veggie stuffs when she encounters Hosaka at the supermarket. The next day, Hosaka learns from Hayami that Haruka has already tasted his new creation that he already had in mind, causing him to miss another interaction for him to give Haruka a homemade lunch.
[
]Kana is excited to go on a hanami viewing, but everyone else doesn’t seem to notice/care. Utilizing a scenario where ‘if a secret is told, but is inevitably shared with others’, she ‘tells’ everyone about the event and it spreads throughout the Minami Sisters’ various friend circles. On the day of the hanami event, Kana arrives at the site early and finds that she is alone, but later Haruka and Chiaki show up, as well as all of their friends - Except for Hosaka, who has been left out/uninformed and is enjoying his own hanami event by himself.
• No Hosaka ‘song’ this time around.
 • The last segment of the episode was a nice ending sequence, especially when you consider Kana’s efforts in setting it up.

Tadaima was a fun, entertaining watch, with the atmosphere being similar to S1 stuffs.

Next KyoAni show.

I’m getting major Kara no Kyoukai/Bakemonogatari vibes. Looks promising!

Holy shit, if crapping out all that uninspired moeshit created the budget to fund that, all of a sudden I don’t mind it anymore.

Heres hoping the series turns out well, that trailer looks really promising though.

Wasn’t that just one of KyoAni’s commercials from the past?

Aren’t people sick of high school settings in anime yet? I usually just scroll passed any manga/anime I see with “insert name is a insert work describing them 1st/2nd/3rd year at random school…”. Unless it’s a comedy of coarse. God I’m sick of looking at school uniforms.

I am definitely a bit sick of everything ever happening in high school, but most of this stuff is targeted to the upper teen and young adult audience anyway, so it’s not really surprising.
