Robotics Notes 18

[details=Spoiler]
With the help of Mitsuhiko and his uncle,
the Space Candy president, Aki and Kai arrive at the site of the Tokyo
Expo on the eve of the event with GunPro-2 in tow. The duo ends up
spending a night together in a hotel room. Kai wakes up from a
bad dream that revolves around the event of Mizuka’s lasts moments
(where she is taunting him for his inability to help) and Aki offers to
support her childhood friend and lightens the mood with a Gunvarrel
marathon to pass the time.

The next day is a busy one as the
Tanegashima crew (sans Junna, Subaru, and Kona) work on fine tuning
GunPro-2. While taking a look at Exoskeleton’s exhibit, Aki and Kai
learn that Misa is scheduled to be present at the event, which excites
Aki for the opportunity to meet with her sister. Later, Kai ends up
meeting with Misa on his own and delivers Mizuka’s last words to the
elder Senomiya sister, who continues to act cold, but instead of
avoiding Kai, she offers to hear him out on what he has to say. They
have a discussion of sorts about Kimijima, Airi (whom Kai visited
earlier in the day), and even about Kai’s meeting with Sawada, however,
Misa doesn’t say much on the matter. Misa does make a comment about Aki
being ‘normal’ compared to her and tells Kai to continue looking after
her.

It’s the day of the Expo and various organizations are
showing off their robots. A incident occurs when some men come by the
Tanegashima exhibit and badmouth Gunvarrel (due to some propaganda) and
nearly cause Aki to be seriously hurt due to a thrown plastic bottle
that knocks her off a ladder but she is saved by Mitsuhiko and the Space
Candy president ‘deals’ with the interlopers. During Exoskeleton’s
presentation of their robot model ‘SUMERAGI’ (a six-legged robot
featuring fine motor control), Aki tries to garner some crowd interest in GunPro-2,
but there isn’t really any takers at first. Though a demonstration of
GunPro-2 doing various Gunvarrel poses/attacks seems to have the crowd’s
attention for a short while, especially with the Iru-O viewing filter,
the crowd eventually finds the presentation a bit boring and eventually
dissipates. However, a young boy comes back and asks if Aki can make
GunPro-2 do all the cool stuff again, which makes her happy (and
hopeful).

Later, Aki is featured in a live interview and the
topic shifts from the Tanegashima exhibition to her relation of being
Misa’s sister. Aki decides to meet up with Misa but Kai protests the
action, saying that they should do it later. On their way to where Misa
is, the duo encounter an individual that is geared up in a ‘power
suit’, but is facing away from them. It turns out to be Misa and though
the Senomiya sisters are reunited, the moment seems awkward, with Aki
being elated and Misa being her cold self. Sawada interrupts the moment
and draws his gun on Misa, startling Aki and Kai. Misa takes off and
runs down the hallway, then a gunshot is heard…
[/details]

Zetsuen no Tempest 19

[details=Spoiler]
More encounters between the Mage of Exodus and the “Dancing Princess” are shown on various news channels.

Hakaze
meets up with Evangeline, Hayakawa, and Tetsuma to discuss current
matters. Evangeline explains her theory about the trees to Hakaze
(alien origin, superweapons, “civilization blaster”) and even Hakaze
thinks it’s a bit far fetched.in concept. When the conversation
concludes, Hakaze has a request for Evangeline - the retrieval of
Samon’s barrel and the wooden doll that apparently are still at Mt.
Fuji.

Mahiro is at a graveyard and trying to collect his thoughts
when Yoshino encounters him there, the confrontation finally taking
place. The two have a convo about Aika, specifically each of their
roles/positions in regard to her, mainly some back-and-forth stuffs
between the brother and boyfriend of Aika about her particular
tendencies. Each of them has had to endure Aika’s passing in their own
way, with both Mahiro and Yoshino regarding the other as 'strong’
despite their different viewpoints on the course of actions they’ve
chosen to take as a result. Subtle nods to scenarios in Hamlet and The Tempest are also showcased in the meeting.

The
reconciliation between Mahiro and Yoshino reaches both Samon’s and
Hakaze’s ears, with the former overreacting in only the way he can.
Eventually everyone is gathered together at Samon’s penthouse and some
antics occur when both Hakaze and Yoshino make fun of Aika at Mahiro’s
expense. Hanemura feels out of place compared to everyone else who has
some ideal to follow and Evangeline tells him to do what he thinks is
right.

Though the fully assembled group has a primary mission in
dealing with the Trees of Genesis/Exodus, Hakaze makes the suggestion
that the group look into who is Aika’s killer - with the proposal that
she goes back in time to a period before Aika had died in order to learn
the truth.

Shoutouts to Junichiro channeling Bruce Lee for a moment.
[/details]

Vividred Operation 07

[details=Spoiler]
The
extracurricular activities of the ‘Vividteam’ has taken a toll on
Akane’s school life as her studies are suffering due to her busy and
hectic schedule. Aoi, Wakaba, and Himawari rally to help Akane study
and they even try to get Rei to join in on the event, though Rei ends up
denying their requests on multiple asking attempts. Rei is conflicted
by her unwanted involvement with the girls but the crow entity reminds
her that school activity is part of her agreement besides the
destruction of the Manifestation Engine. In some research, Rei ends up
finding a link between Dr. Isshiki and Akane, his granddaughter.

The
study day arrives and the other girls arrive at Akane’s house and Rei
is in tow. While the girls engage in some light talk, Rei excuses
herself to use the bathroom, but instead takes the opportunity to search
the home for any signs of Dr. Isshiki’s research. She stumbles upon
Dr. Isshiki’s physical body in the fridge, but Wakaba knocks Rei out,
causing her to not remember what happened. Later, the girls are
gathering some veggies for lunch and Aoi has a convo with Rei about
Akane being the heart of their group in bringing them together. The
subject of wishes comes up when Akane talks with Rei, and the latter
remembers what she ‘wishes’ for (in regard to her tragedy), which then
changes Rei’s demeanor and causes her to leave. The girls get a call
shortly after Rei’s departure.

That night, the Vividteam is
assembled and is on their way to stop an Alone that is traveling to Blue
Island from over the mainland and causing havoc with EMP shockwaves.
The Alone is seemingly defeated when Akane and Himawari transform into
Vividyellow to destroy it, but Rei arrives and manages to transform the
Alone into a secondary form, which surprises the group with an energy
blast, but Akane manages to block it in time. However, Akane is knocked
out by the blast and she falls down toward the city below.

Back at home, dinner is prepared and Momo awaits for the return Akane and her friends.
[/details]

Chihayafuru 2 07

Spoiler
It seems that both Ayase sisters are in a slump of sorts: The elder, Chitose, isn’t so much of a hot commodity regarding her stardom lately (modeling, TV, etc.) and the younger, Chihaya, is somewhat still depressed about her loss in the team match, despite having increased her skillset via channeling Shinobu’s card-taking precision. At school, with exams coming up, Chihaya is pressured to do well to pass and a situation arises regarding the school band not having a room and her teacher making a point of it to the Karuta Club captain. Chihaya tells their club adviser, Miyauchi, that the band can use the second floor space above their clubroom as a storage facility for the time being. Though the Empress sees Chihaya as possibly having matured enough to think about others, the other club members see it as Chihaya being ‘greedy’ in wanting everything for everyone, but Chihaya thinks of it as having some good karma come her way with the gesture of goodwill.

At the Shiranami Society, Sumire’s karuta playing ability has progressed a bit. She is able to beat the younger two of the Tsukuba trio and go even with the eldest of the trio, but she is unable to beat big brother Akihiro. Though an appearance by Taichi has Sumire appearing more pleasant for the moment, her mood returns to that of complaining about the little things that bother her and Akihiro thinks that Sumire is being honest about her feelings despite saying those things.

When Chihaya returns home one day, her father makes a point to show off a news clipping of the recent team match, which ends up depressing her for a moment. Her mother suggests a shopping trip to cheer her up and though Chihaya isn’t too enthusiastic about it, she is surprised to find out that the destination is the Oe Kimono Store. Chihaya’s mother wants to buy her daughter a kimono, though Chihaya protests, and Kana’s mother works her magic to secure a sale. As Chihaya tries a kimono on with some assistance from Kana, her mother talks to Kana’s mom about how a parent should support their children in their endeavors - but in her case, she felt that Chihaya would be all right if she continued to play karuta, which caused her to overlook the younger daughter for the older daughter, who was pursuing an unstable career path. Despite the plan to purchase an exquisite kimono, Chihaya’s mother feels that Chihaya might be able to attain her goal someday of being the ‘Queen of Karuta’, though her studies may be lacking and her career choice uncertain, it is a gesture from mother to daughter showing an interest in Chihaya’s passion. When Chitose returns home, she finds Chihaya practicing her karuta skills, using Shinobu’s Queen match as reference material. Though she thinks nothing much of it, it has the effect of having her push forward in her own interests, much like Chihaya is doing.

Another day passes and the Karuta Club is studying for tests with the band making all sorts of noise in the room above them. In a unexpected moment, Kana breaks the fourth-wall with a comment about Chihaya not knowing what ‘impassioned’ means, in regards to the title of the anime, Chihayafuru. Kana explains the difference between ‘impassioned’ and ‘frenzied’, using a spinning top to illustrate the meanings of the words: a top spinning out of control (frenzied) and a top spinning smoothly and effortlessly (impassioned). A surprise performance by the band playing the verses of the school song becomes a send-off of wishes for the Mizusawa Karuta Club to do well at Nationals, the gesture of goodwill being support that the Karuta Club never really got from anyone outside the world of Karuta.

At a hotel near Omi Jingu (site of the tournament), Sumire laments about having to dress down her looks (no makeup) for bed as ordered by Miyauchi. She makes some small talk with Chihaya and asks about who she likes and though she mentions Shinobu (admiration for a rival), Chihaya does mention something about “wondering what ‘he’ is doing right now?” and wanting to see that person. Sometime later, Taichi is making his way back to his hotel room when he spots Chihaya talking on her phone - to Arata. He overhears a bit of the conversation but leaves, probably to think about something else in regard to Chihaya. Chihaya learns that Arata will only be attending the singles tournament, something he is focused on, with team stuffs not really being his thing. Arata says that he plans to win the tournament, prompting Chihaya to say the same thing, though Arata reminds her that Shinobu will be a part of it.

The National Karuta Tournament begins soon…
Kotoura 07

Spoiler
During summer vacation at the Kotoura Estate:

Both Manabe and Kotoura’s grandfather want to enjoy a mixed bath with Haruka but their dream is dashed when the outdoor bath is under repairs. Even the attempt of digging their own bath, which for some reason yields oil, doesn’t really make either Haruka fan happy.

Muroto doesn’t really care about outdoor mixed bath stuffs, which makes Yuriko kinda depressed and Haruka aware of her thoughts on the matter.

Hiyori is a bad cook, causing both herself and Manabe to act quite strangely for the rest of the evening.

Manabe wakes up the next morning between Hiyori and Haruka and thinks something happened last night. Hiyori wakes up thinking the same thing. Turns out it was a misunderstanding that Haruka clears up.

Haruka learns that her mother, Kumiko, was present because of the priest’s actions/request (who also told the grandfather the night before) and that she was watching her daughter, but making remarks about how she is likely to ruin the relationship with her friends as she had done before.

The group returns home for the remainder of their summer vacation. Haruka doesn’t see much of Manabe (can’t get a hold of him via phone) and with Yuriko’s advice, the two girls decide to spy on Manabe and see what he is up to, but Haruka is unable to learn anything from her encounter with Manabe, who is apparently working a part-time job. However, Haruka does learn a bit about Yuriko’s past with Muroto, when the topic of doubt comes up as the two girls talk about stuff. Hiyori is stuck at home studying and later she ends up at Haruka’s place asking for some help. She then learns of the current situation regarding Manabe, causing her to have a selfish thought, but ultimately she is worried about how Haruka feels.

At school, Manabe is back to his old self and he surprises Haruka with a birthday party, cake, and a gift. He tells Haruka that he learned of her birthday from her grandfather and that he worked part-time in order to prepare for the party, besides keeping it a secret from the other ESP Society members. As Haruka blows out the candles, she recalls some words from her mother (from a nightmare she had) but she feels confident in believing in her friends.

It feels like Production IG is behind schedule because the animation to Psycho-Pass 18 was absolutely atrocious.

They used a lot of zoomed out shots, which I’m assuming was done to save on time-and-budget since it didn’t require a lot of animation on the characters and you don’t need to animate any clothing or facial details. However, the characters still looked like ass because they didn’t put much effort into the character itself. In
one of the beginning scenes, we have Kogami talking but they didn’t animate the entire speech so the voice actor
had to start speaking before the Kogami’s mouth was even moving. There’s a lot of missing in-between animations as well, with several scenes having missing frames, which makes it look like a character suddenly “teleports” when shifting their weight or making slight movements. It also makes certain movements look very jerky and awkward. I, seriously, hope they fix this episode in the Blu-Ray release because it looked so ugly.

As for the content of the episode:

Psycho Pass 18

Spoiler

So Kasei is back, which means they have her mass produced and ready for deployment at any given moment. On top of that, she can over ride the Sibyl System and turn any dominator from stun-to-lethal as well.

Overall, the episode was really solid for character development with the seeds of doubt being planted in Ginoza now. He’s going to start second guessing the orders from Kasei and start doubting himself when he becomes conflicted with his orders vs his personal feelings. There’s also some slight development between Ginoza and Masaoka, as we gradually see Masaoka trying to open up Ginoza by indirectly playing the mentor role - possibly making up for his lack of being there for Ginoza as a father. I actually quite like how Masaoka is trying to approach his relationship with his son. He isn’t trying to play the father role to Ginoza because he knows he wasn’t always there for him when he was growing up. He understands the damage that has been done and is approaching the situation slowly. If they continue developing this relationship in this manner, I could totally see Ginoza being forced into a situation where he ends up killing Masaoka. It’ll actually have a really good impact if done correctly.

Really good interaction between Akane and Kogami and it’s the start of the separation of their ideals and principles. This episode pretty much explains why Kogami has a revolver in the opening sequence. It’s definitely foreshadowing future events with that one scene of Akane, Makashima, and Kogami with the revolver. I could see the show force a showdown between the three where Kogami wants to kill Makashima while Akane wants to bring him to justice so that he can be held accountable for the upcoming shit show. Akane might be forced to pull the trigger on Kogami in order to maintain her ideals and principles that is beginning to differ from Kogami.
Lol episode 18 had some GREAT facial expressions in it. Dudes was looking like they was straining to cross the finish line when they were standing perfectly still.
It wasn’t just ep 18, Killey, 17 was pretty ass too. I’m pretty sure everyone noticed that pitiful face Kogami put on just as he as about to “embrace his fate” (that’s not a spoiler). It totally was not conveying the expression Kogami would have; it’s just not him.

On the topic of Yozora, I used to like her, but I’ve looked past that illusion of a sadist with a mere fearful bully. It doesn’t help that I like her voice actor’s voice though. Saw a bit of ep 2 and Rika is definitely hitting the right buttons at the moment.

edit: All caught up on Haganai Next… and Rika is definitely hitting the right buttons… and Maria’s sister.

edit:
Shinsekai Yori 21

Spoiler
Hory shet! Those queerats are out to conquer the world and using humans as a weapon! I don’t know how you guys called out Maria or an offspring of Maria as the fiend, but it looks like that’s the case without a doubt at this point.
Shinsekai Yori 21

Spoiler

Wow, was expecting Mamouru or Maria to be the fiend not their child, (I know a character has said they’re dead, but haveing the bones be proof just an episode or two after Squealer said he could fake them sounds pretty shakey), can’t help but wonder what has become of them now.
Regarding Shinsekai Yori 21… I fucking told you guys. :expressionless: This shit is getting really heavy though. I have no idea how it’s going to end.
I love cars too, but you can’t say that Akio isn’t an idiot. Because he really is. The doc developed an obsession and the last guy to challenge Akio gave up. Most of the cast dragged the show down and the scene writing was horrible.

I just found Wangan to be really boring, the races just weren’t that exciting, the characters where dull, and half the time the Z crashed. I love old Fairlady’s it’s too hard watching that thing get totaled every time it went out on the road lol.
Can’t wait for the next episode of Maoyuu Maou Yuusha

TBH, all it really came down to in Wangan is whoever tuned their car better for top speed performance. There’s really little driver skill involved despite how much they try to embellish that diminutive factor. All they had to do was up-shift and floor it. That’s it.

That’s why Initial D is more enjoyable… but even Fifth Stage is starting to lose its appeal to me.
I only watched the first few episodes of Wangan, but it didn’t really hook me like Initial D did. From what I remember it was just the dude trying to drive his “Devil Z” and totaling it, only to rebuild it and then crash it the very next episode or scene. Happened like 3 times in those opening episodes, then i was just like “Nah, not watching this to see the guy crash some more” lol. I’m sure there’s actually a lot more to it later on, but how it started just put me off.

5th stage is just suffering from massive pacing problems, I don’t know why they feel the need to just blitz through everything. It still follows roughly the same formula as 4th stage, where they just throw one race after another at you, except this time they don’t even bother building up the battles or the opponent and they’re so focused on getting to the next race that they just fly through the current one, to the point that it’s starting to feel kinda shallow. What’s the point of getting to the next one if you’re just gonna gun through the damn thing anyway? It’s like 4th stage taken to the extreme.

Battle -> Race Over -> Next Place -> Drivers shake hands (who the fuck is this opponent again? Did you even bother intro’ing them?) -> Battle -> Race Over -> Next Place -> Drivers shake hands -> Rinse and Repeat.
