Who is this stuff even for. Why not just watch hentai, the animation quality is pretty much the same. I can’t see anyone watching the opening of this more than a few times before skipping it. I’m legitimately confused.

The animation quality for your average anime is usually better than the animation quality of your average hentai. The whole “why not just watch hentai” argument actually confuses me. People watch different shit for different reasons.
I’m saying, as far as I know, DxD or whatever is basically hentai without the actual sex scenes, there’s just tons of nudity and…that’s it. A typical harem anime with complete throw away characters that no one but doujin artists care about, you watch it for the “hot girls” and for fantasizing that you are the male lead. I can’t really think why else you would watch it. So why not just go the extra mile and download the latest hot hentai episode with similar looking characters and have a wank, is all I’m saying.I could be wrong, I literally have no clue what the show is about, other than a quick glance at the wiki page, but I doubt it.
I could understand for something like say, Manyuu Hikenchou, which is sort of the same but at least it has an absurd plot and some comedy elements to it, it was a somewhat original “echi” show. I watched a couple of episode and had a few laughs. But DxD sounds like the plot of 4467753356 harem before it.
Do you have any idea of what the plot actually is? Because it sure sounds like you don’t, and I’m not sure why you would be so opinionated about something you don’t really know anything about.
People who call ecchi shows soft core hentai have obviously never seen softcore hentai like Rescue Me! or Kagaku no Yatsura. Highschool DxD falls somewhere in the middle of the ecchi anime rainbow. I mean, it has daily nipples, which obviously puts it above your standard, maids and panty shot fanservice, it is still not “about” the nipples. Shows like it, Samurai Girls, Queens Blade (which is admittedly dirtier than it) are essentially battle damage anime, with the occasional blatant fanservice bathtub conversation thrown in. There are entire shows that revolve around breasts (Manyuu Hikenchou), Nipple Sucking (Seikon No Qwaser) and harems (To LoveRu Darkness). So in relative terms, it isn`t that dirty

Is the Dangan Ronpa anime better than the visual novel so far? I just heard about them and they both seem about equal.
Anime is speeding through things but they accurately recreate a lot of things from the game. They’re also reusing footage from the game as well for specific scenes.
Just finished ‘Dusk Maiden of Amnesia’. It was pretty good. I really liked the art style and it managed pretty well for having a very small cast.
