Anime & Manga Thread v.4 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Thread over. Move onto v.5

Oh great that’s right.

I need to go finish up Zeta. I would have a long time ago if 90% of the cast wasn’t a bunch of whiny bitches.

Man Zeta had a great start, lame middle, and blah ending. Double ZZ was almost the oppisite for me personally with a slightly better middle. Fuck Moon Moon arc though.

So what you’re saying was that ZZ had a blah start, lame, but slightly better than Zeta’s middle, and great ending?

Anyway I watched all 3 available long trailers for Unicorn and now I’m hype as fuck. Time to double time my UC marathon.

I still need to finish up Zeta Gundam. Thanks for the Char’s Counterattack warning there, specs.

I’m thinking about skipping ZZ altogether since it just seems like 47 episodes of filler. Though 8th MS Team, War in the Pocket and Stardust Memory can be considered “filler” as well, at least they’re not as long and are interesting to me personally. The reason why I’m where I’m at right now is because I just watched the original Mobile Suit Gundam trilogy movies instead of the 43 episode series. I’m also going to skip the main Zeta series and just watch the three movies instead to save time. :looney:

Yeah, By like the miod point of Zeta I just grew irriatated with everything. Only character I didn’t hate int he end was Emma.

Forgot to mention this but the one part that stood out to me in the Gundam Movie Trilogy was…

Spoiler

When Bright got up and walked away the moment Mirai mentioned to their Feddie superiors that she had a fiance. Poor guy had the “Goddamn it, cockblocked” look in his salty face. Couldn’t help but go “awww” for the guy.

That’s cause she is the only good character from it. Aside from sometimes Char and Amuro

Yeah pretty much. Didn’t help some of the deaths were just utterly retarded, yeah block Jerid’s beam saber with your head and NOT THE FUCKING SHIELDS ON YOUR SUITS ARMS.

I also hear Unicorn is good… but I heard Char’s Counterattack was good too. I’ll watch an episode. DWG3 made me kinda like Banagher and Audrey. Is there a dub?

I watched the first episode of Unicorn and I loved it. I’m waiting for the rest of it to come out before I finish it up.

Yes there is. It’s quite good actually.

Haha it’s gonna take a while. :shake:

Sounds pretty bad to me. Laughably so at times.

I am a patient man.

To give you an idea, Unicorn started in Feb 2010 and it’s only half done. That said, it is a great series so far.

Macross Plus: Finally saw this one. It was good, but I think it shows its age now with a predictable story. In the end, it was worth watching though it’s not going to be something I return to later.

Caught up with Iroha. Loved the first half. This second half is so-so to me. It kind of feels like Kaleido Star in the sense that it hasn’t gained its footing with its new shift after an amazing first part.

Is anyone keeping up with Blood C? Did it get good?

I just posted this in the YouTube comments of that video. It applies here:

“Most dubs are actually quite good. It’s the original Japanese dialogue that’s badly written. Then people hear it in English, refuse to believe their beloved anime (PROTIP: most anime is trash) could ever produce dialogue that atrocious, and they scapegoat the dub. Not opinion.”

I. Am. A. Patient. Man. The less i know about how long I have waited the less it feels like I have waited that long. DON’T RUIN IT FOR ME JIN!!!

Well the real issue is that the dialog has to be re-written to fit the way the mouths move and that is limiting. There’s plenty of anime with horrible dialog yeah, moreso than good, but the good dialog still sounds bad in English because they still are restricted by the fact that they are different languages, and the show has already been animated for THAT language.

True true. And I’ll play devil’s advocate here; a good dub should try to translate the idea into something more easily digested, instead of just translating the language with all the Japanese isms/idioms still in play.

Eh a good writer should be able to make the dialogue organic even in a new language. Not 100% of the time but most of the time. I doubt a lot of the translation companies have writers on staff tho.
