Again, it doesn’t really matter if you found it entertaining or not. NGE really did change the anime industry.

Outside giving us a more organic design of mechas, i honestly don’t feel that EVA made such an impact on the anime industry, there were other works that made similar stuff of EVA way before eva even existed, like Dolbuk for example.
TBH with you, i think that EVA is only well remembered because Rei, Asuka and Misato are still some of the favorite fap material of many hentai artist and hentai aficionados :looney:
You guys are retarded.
It influenced primarily the mecha industry in that it was one of the first mecha shows to combine both real robot aspects commonly found in Gundam and Macross(IE mass produced walking tanks used for war or battle purposes with realistic limitations such as energy supply, manufacturing and whatnot) with super robot aspects commonly found in Getter Robo and GaoGaiGar(IE robot with supernatural origin falling into the hands of chosen one(s)) and of course as you said the characters Asuka and Rei are forever immortalized.
But as a whole the show reflected the current state of Japan of the 90’s. Huge recession lead to lots of young teenagers having no real hope for the future and overall growing up rather depressed, it was a lot easier for people to connect with the characters given the current state of affairs.
Also like you said it was one of the first mecha shows to give the robots a more organic feel rather then the big clunky robots.
Though they’re were other shows with bits and pieces of similarities long before EVA, Evangelion still get’s rewarded for being the most influential simply because most of the teenagers who watched it at the time are the adults who spend money on the anime industry today.

It is a fact that K-On is better than Meduca and Eva combined.
Why do you think everybody dies in those series? Because they tried to stop the golden apocalypse that is the angelic night of Kyoani.

i use to be on the side of the people who were like “EVA is just overrated!!1 blah blah!!!”. but after taking time to watch it back in 2008, i can see why it was revolutionary for its time, and i can see why it has a permanent place in history for evolving anime. now i did enjoy it, but its not on my OMFG #1 BEST EVAR list. I also liked madoka…but i cant really compare them IMO.

[]Without Eva, shows like Rahxephon, Madoka and Serial Experiment Lain among others wouldn’t have been made.
[]Without Eva, mechs designs would still be stuck in clunky box land. I’m still a little annoyed they changed the exaggerated waist proportions after the TV show to be more “humanoid” and less “stylised” so it’d be easier to animate lol (see spoiler tag below for comparison pics)
[]Without Eva, Rei clones would not have populated. Neither would have Kaworu clones.
[]Without Eva, all mech pilots would’ve been nothing but hotblooded, superhero balls to the wall, shoot first think later Gar machines (not that it’s a bad thing per say, just they went against that expected norm at the time showing people that you can have variety in your main characters)
[]Without Eva, flashing cryptic frames/scenes in quick, seizure-inducing successions would not have nearly been as cool, not mentioning empty religious themes and motifs either.

Without Madoka… nothings comes to mind really. Most likely because we’ll need more time to actually see how influential and popular it’ll actually be.
Without K-ON, everyone would still have their fair share of cake. All those girls are cake hogs to the max, hoarding it all for themselves to indulge in during their after school tea times. They even infiltrated London in search of moar cake. Their loyal followers too, even went so far as making oversee pilgrimages in search of the fabled fluffy fluffy time cake. There have even been reports of Disney Channel succumbing to their cake like ways.
Without Mai Hime movie… oh wait they never made one. Fuck them and their fake trailers, get back on that shit, dammit Sunrise! >.<

Saying stuff like this is totally wrong without eva, other anime sooner or later would have made the same
Psychological dramas aren’t new, and while Eva could be the 1st organic mech anime, there were certainly other animes and mangas starting to do stuff similar to it, so it was something that with time would happened anyway.
The Rei clones are really old stuff too, again see Dolbuk
Yeah, she (the green girl) is not a teenager like rei, but she shares a lot of the stuff find on the archetype, outside the organic stuff, Dolbuk was already making many of that stuff in the 80’s
I am not saying that EVA couldn’t be possibly very influential, but saying that without eva neither of that would exist is foolish

You’re right, chances are a lot of those probably would’ve happened sooner or later without EVA anyway, but Eva was the one that made it all boom so it gets the props. It may’ve came across badly in the post, but that was the main gist of what I was getting at.
Also Horse Racing Eva wouldn’t never happened otherwise nor would the Schick stuff either lol

Is ok bro, btw Rahxephon > EVA imo
Rahxephon would’ve been really good if it didn’t have an awful copout ending like Evangelion did.
The OP is among the best I’ve seen though.

I couldn’t get into Rahxephon. I tried watching the first episode and there was a giant mech terrorising the city, except it was just a big massive floating statue. It was so absurd and far removed from what I was originally anticipating that I turned it off. The main character running around being lost of his ass didn’t help things either… =/ I do plan to go back, give it a proper shot and eventually finish it sometime down the road though. Just to see what all the fuss is about.

I enjoyed RahXephon a whole lot, but i prefer the interactions of the main 3 from EVA better.

Eva was great for it’s time but it doesn’t quite hold up to the test of time. There’s absolutely no denying that it was ground breaking and became influential to the anime industry.
Continuing on with the new season of anime.
Suki-tte Ii na yo Episode 2 - Goddamn this show gets so many points for using a song from the late Ritsuko Okazaki for it’s opening theme. There’s a significant amount of character development in this episode. The pacing felt a bit sped up in this episode but I think it worked out alright so I’m definitely interested in how episode 3 will turn out.
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun Episode 2 - I really enjoyed this episode as well and the pacing felt just as quick as Suki-tte Ii na yo but it worked out really well. I really like the way they worked in this new character and managed to use her to further the relationship between the two main characters. The end of the episode pretty much works out the same way as Suki-tte Ii na yo episode 2 as well.
So far, I’ve been watching Suki-tte Ii na yo and Tonari no Kaibutus-kun back-to-back and it’s been rather interesting thus far. I just find it interesting how the two shows have similar premises, similar pacing, but have completely different means of execution to convey the same points. It’s an interesting juxtaposition, in my opinion, and I think I’m just going to watch both series back-to-back just because of this.
.Hack//The Movie - I really like the .Hack franchise so I really enjoyed this movie that I didn’t know too much about. However, I’m wondering how many times CC Corp can be allowed to continue running their business and “The World” when every few years they have the same incident occur. lol The CG in this movie is a little bit weird but the facial expressions were really detailed and sort of reminded me of Final Fantasy 9’s CG facial expressions.
Explain the episode to me so I don’t have to come to my own conclusions based on screenshots alone. I have a feeling watching episode 15 is a waste of time like the rest of the episodes.

I guess the main point is, EVA may not be the first to do all those things, but it was the one that put them all together well and made them really popular. Like Apple and the iPhone (boo, go android).
Fake?! I was looking forward to that in 20006…

Shinsekai Yori (From the New World) seems to have gone under the radar around here this season. Checked out the first three episodes and I really like what I’ve seen so far, really intriguing stuff. There’s elements of supernatural mystery that keeps you interested in finding more about the world that they’re in, and from the little hints and clues that they’ve dropped so far, it doesn’t seem to be very pretty at all (Shit, I mean you have kids disappearing and that, somethings gotta be messed up somewhere).
It’s based off a novel (yes an actual novel, not those baby light novels) that’s set 1000 years into the future, where humans are able to use telekinetic-like abilities, which the world seems to have revolved around now. Despite the advanced timeline, the show is not very futuristic at all and has a more village and rural like setting. The story follows a core group of kids who hang out, going about their daily lives but while things seem relatively calm and peaceful on the surface, it’s obvious there are much bigger things behind the scenes that are being kept hidden. The show I assume deals with them slowly uncovering the secrets and truth of it all, unraveling the history of the world that their in and how it has become what it is.
Definitely one of the better shows that I’ve checked out this season. Would recommend people check out the first couple of episodes, especially if you’re still looking for stuff to follow from this season.
A little preview for those that are interested.
