I haven’t even watched SAO and clicked the spoiler cause my brain was on auto pilot.

Well shitt…

I’m not sure if you’re upset because they said Madoka was better than Evangelion or because you think Evangelion is a piece of crap. Regardless, if you really think about it, Evangelion was waaaaaaaaay outside the box in terms of anime back in the day. To US audiences, who got to watch it later and/or had that filter that made “all anime good in the past”, it’s a bit different. However, Evangelion really did revolutionize anime for its time. Before Evangelion, IIRC, there wasn’t really an anime that pushed anime into new genres such as the psychological genre. Before then, there weren’t really shows that developed characters as much as Evangelion did or even had characters as deep as Evangelion did.

I’m not saying Evangelion is THE BEST ANIMU OF ALL TIME, but when you really think about it, in Japan, it really did change the face of anime.

As for Madoka exceeding Evangelion, I’m skeptical about that. The show did turn a normally happy-go-lucky theme on its head and turn it into a very well executed, very dark and emotional drama, but I don’t feel like it changed anime as a whole. I do like Madoka better than Evangelion though.

I just saved you 14 episodes. Don’t fucking watch that garbage. Not worth it.

I think NGE is fucking amazing, and really pushed anime into a new direction.

Madoka is really really good, but I don’t think it exceeded NGE by any standards.

SEL or Bokurano were closer to NGE’s level.

I can definitely see why people think Madoka exceeded Evangelion though. I definitely think Madoka is BETTER than Evangelion, but not when talking about redefining anime. I guess it just depends on context.

Madoka exceeds Evangelion in every way except innovation. Crucify me here if you want. I don’t mind.

Edit: beaten to the punch

I wouldn’t use Evangelion to wipe my sweaty balls off with, but it clearly was exponentially more groundbreaking and influential than Madoka. Fuck outta here with that shit.

I think in terms

Nope, I tried to think of anywhere Madoka might beat NGE, but I just can’t.

Characters developed better in NGE, even the minor ones, Madoka’s minor characters were nonexistent.

Okay, maybe fight scenes, Madoka did an amazing job with their fight scenes.

Music is about even.

Pacing is about even, I think NGE was a little slow and Madoka a little fast but eh.

While I do realize that there is indeed context to be taken into account, I am nonetheless totally sigging the above.

Blue ball comes slowly.

Based on the sales and the mainstream impact that has been made by Madoka Magica in Japan, having its last episode’s ratings be about as high as an episode of Pokemon, I would say that its total impact so far is very comparable if not equal to Eva. Its yet to be seen how Madoka would influence the industry since the last episode aired only a year and half ago.

I honestly don’t hope too much.

When you do shows like that too much, they lose luster.

If there were a thousand Bokuranos, it wouldn’t be fun anymore.

I honestly think that if NGE wasn’t what it was, Madoka wouldn’t have been what it is.

I seems that i am one of the few that think that NGE is way overrated, yes i liked it like others, but i don’t think that is as good as many people like to claim.

Jojo will clearly be best of this season. Are they going to do more seasons/arcs?

Hitachi Club 2: Still weird, at least it’s short. Why they didn’t do a proper adaption I do not get.

About to check out K 2. Not sure what to expect.

I liked Madoka a fair bit but it certainly didn’t “wow” me like a lot of people. I mean, don’t anime do this sort of thing all the time? In the “cutesy/fanservice take a dark turn” anime department I actually prefer Mai Hime (also a “magical girl with a price” theme) and Tenshi ni Narumon. I guess what Madoka did better though was not dwelling on the boring happy/standard part for too long.
I also kinda felt Madoka should have been longer and more fleshed out, like it didn’t really get anywhere. Or rather it drove all it’s points home too early and then just fizzled out. I dunno.

Havn’t seen EVA, but I’d put some other “old ‘deep’ anime now probably considered overrated because too popular” far above Madoka… Like Utena, Lain, FLCL… I wouldn’t rate Madoka up there with those.

Also havn’t seen Narutaru, but that show probably belongs in this discussion somewhere.

Evangelion was more groundbreaking, Madoka was better, and Utena was the best.

I forgot about Mai Hime.

Mai Hime was the fucking shit and Utena would have been the best if people didn’t turn into cars in the movie.

That ending ruined the series for me.

Well yeah, the ending of Hime and the Utena movie are both… Not fantastic.
Some visually cool scenes in Utena movie tho. But I watched it in the middle of the night, right after finishing the actual show and it didn’t compare very well.

About K 2… I was not put off by episode 2 at all. But then again, I would prefer the series to now be a slice of life with the three of them living in that apartment, possibly in some sort of love triangle. Whereas most people trying K probably want some badass action and/or hot bishounen luv, and the episode was very weak in those departments. I will watch episode 3.

I thought it was paedo tripe, parading around in such thinly veiled philosophy, that it played like a shout out to a certain emperor’s wardrobe.

Blue ball comes slowly.

It being “good” is pretty subjective. If you look at how anime was before and after NGE, it’s pretty obvious how much of an impact it had on anime in general. You could hate NGE because it wasn’t your cup of tea, but there’s no denying how much it has impacted modern anime.

Mai Hime would’ve been great if the first half wasn’t generic fanservice anime and the ending didn’t suck donkey dicks. I loved the second half of the series though.

The only part of EVA that was even remotely entertaining, was… how disgusting.

Blue ball comes slowly.

SAO 15: It’s not an episode of SAO without someone crying.
