Anime & Manga Thread v.4 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Thread over. Move onto v.5

Agreed. They do slip up once in a while, but compared to all the other studios, I feel like shaft makes less pure market based decisions and has a lot of integrity in their artwork and presentation still. They do still sell and they know how to, but I feel like they don’t compromise their series’ to consumer cliches as much to sell.

I enjoyed the 2nd half of mai hime…but mai otome fucking blows it out the water IMO.

I predict basketball will only ever make up 30% of this show and even then, that 30% will be pointless shitty basketball just for the sake of it.
With that said, I’l probably get suckered into this by the basketball gimmick sooner or later cause I’m basketball sucker like that, no homo lol

I look forward to getting proven wrong Ro-Kyu-Bu

Has anyone heard if Verita’s manga starting back up again or soul eater?

The only good all girl sports anime I’ve seen is princess 9. Someone should suggest another legit one.

I saw a few people liking Taisho Yakyuu Musume, so you can try that.

Agreed :stuck_out_tongue:

Was that the baseball one in like old times?

Where did the smiley menu go? I can’t remember all the phrases for them, I need that menu.

Yeah, that’s the one.

You’re not going to use much of those smilies. These new ones look weird.

And on the subject of Shaft, they too are not exempt from adpatation conclusion woes. The most recent example is Arakawa where we will never know what would happen

Regarding the series

Spoiler

…when the cast reaches Venus.

Because of low DVD sales won’t gurantee a 3rd season as of now. So in essence, the original material is the best you’ve got in this case.

Arakawa was fucking amazing.

I’ll take a season three of that over anything out now and for the rest of the damn decade.

I second this wholeheartedly.

But hey, at least there’s the live action series to look forward too!

Probably.

even over a new (somehow better)kaleido star or (somehow better)eureka seven?

how can eureka 7 get any better? show was fucking godlike! nothing can compare…

Hopefully the Arakawa live actions (i say live action***s*** because there’s two! A tv drama and a movie) indicates the franchise is still going well despite the low DVD sales. Maybe the upcoming live action drama and movie can help pick up steam for the series.
Either way we’d be stuck waiting on the manga anyway… so i don’t think we’ll be seeing anymore anytime soon =/

It was a hypothetical =P

The only way Kaleido Star could be better is if they made Ken and Sora get together, and that would never happen. Ever.

E7 is perfection, IT NEEDS NOTHING.

They can fix Eureka Seven.

By making the Nirvash and Terminus 303 not SUCK in Super Robot Wars.

Arakawa was hilarious but…I want Kizumonogatari. I’m fine with then holding off on more Arakawa for a while.

true.

Actually, I thought the ending of Arakawa was handled very well, and not pieced at the last minute. Otherwise none of you would have such fond memories of the anime as you do now. Listen to recruit’s closing monologue and tell me how it’s not a great ending sequence!

even though arakawa is about setting, not plot

Spoiler

Arakawa is a nice blend of slice of life and absurdist comedy, it’s not really about plot progression as it is about enjoying the peace in absurdity in the unlikely awesome life under the bridge. Who even knows if being Venusian is still just a metaphor for how different nino and everyone else is. It’s like nino said in the first ep (the mayor is a kappa as I am a Venusian). The dream of going to Venus could just be a representation of the bridge’s dreams that extends beyond anything normal they can reach on earth.
But the beautiful thing about arakawa is, does it matter if Nino is venusian or human? if the mayor is a kappa…or if sister is a nun, or recruit, a citizen of a homeless society? No. The big running theme is that people are not made by expectations, but who they want to live as, and the bridge is just chill with whoever.
So for me, my life would go on just fine if there is no 3rd season that feels the need to end the plot, I don’t really feel anything needs to be explained, everyone is happy, bridge life is good, so if there is no main problem obstructing that…there’s no need for a solution. So as the 2nd season ending goes, recruit makes the reflection that his life now is like a wonderful circus, where he doesn’t question the mystery of things but take it as they are and sits back as as bridge life goes on, and if you were to stare with “opera glasses” you’d ruin the magic of it all. So as not to look at the characters and their behaviors traditionally and question it as a normal person would.

but hey, if anyone keeps up with the manga and my theory is completely wrong, please pm me.

Holy fuckin shit at Iroha ep 11.

what an intense episode. Shit is just unfair man =(

Just want to give Ohana a big hug.

well, the manga doesn’t even have recruit’s dialogues from what I’ve seen. There’s definitely no dialogue at the equivalent of the end of the second season. It seems to me that all of his pre-ep dialogues are just something the director wanted to add.
