Anime & Manga Thread v.4 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Thread over. Move onto v.5

Mages participate in the Holy Grail War in order to obtain the Holy Grail which can grant any wish. Seven mages(or someone lucky) summon seven famous characters from history and/or legend. They fight each other. If either the mage or servant die, they lose the war. Is that what you had trouble with?

Kirei Kotomine is the guy who controls Assassin… who was supposed to have been killed…but he has like eighty dudes as back up? I thought each person was only allowed one servant? Why does Wavers servant just blatantly disregard like everything he says while other peoples servants are subservient to a point?

My extent of the Fate/Stay universe is rather small. I’ve only ever watched F/SN and that was sometime ago.

Negima 342 out.

I don’t fully understand the Assassin thing. I think it’s that that is his Noble Phantasm(the special trump card of a servant) for this war, having multiple people posing as him.

The subservience of the other servants that you have noticed is just the servants themselves doing so willingly. It’s in their personality or their special traits(Gilgamesh was summoned with independent action, which makes it so that he can even kill his master and still exist) and they aren’t compelled to be subservient by default. Aside from that, the master has three chances to rectify any insubordination with a command spell. Using the command spell, any order must be obeyed. Alexander is just a haughty idiot and Waver won’t use a command spell on him for that(orders with an intended constant effect like “listen to what I say” will eventually run out).

Finally got around to finishing iroha. Last eps were amazing, easily the show I enjoyed most from last season

I’m so behind on anime. :frowning:

I think it’s because a group is part of the heroes story. If you take Arthur for an example, he himself is a legend. But if you take a story like say, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, the thieves are a group. So if you had a Thief class and they were selected, you wouldn’t get one of them, but all 40.

So, if Assassin is Hassan-i Sabbah, this text from Wiki probably explains why they are a group when summoned:
"Hassan-i Sabbāh (Persian: حسن صباح Hasan-e Sabbāh, 1050s–1124) was a Persian Nizārī Ismā’īlī missionary who converted a community in the late 11th century in the heart of the Alborz Mountains of northern Iran. The place was called Alamut and was attributed to an ancient king of Daylam. He founded a group whose members are sometimes referred to as the Hashshashin or Assassins."

This could all be jibberish on my part, but that’s my theory for it.

This has become a weekly occurence, but daaaaamn ufotable! You haven’t dropped the ball at all!

Definitely not jibberish. Assassin(the real one) is always Hassan.

Only issue with that is that Hassan is ALWAYS the Assassin class servant, and not all summoned Assassins have been a group. It’s probably just an ability of that specific one that was summoned. (hasn’t seen F/Z yet)

If I start watching Fate/Zero without watching Fate/stay night, will I miss much?

I think you may not miss much for Fate/Zero, since ep 1 does explain the setting well, but you’ll definately spoil Fate/Stay Night.

I don’t think Fate/Stay Night is necessarily required to understand Fate/Zero either. At most it’ll probably help you enjoy Fate/Zero that 1 or 2 percent more (eg: recognising a 10 second cameo, connecting dots irrelevant to the plot or w/e).
IMO, Fate/Stay Night anime was pretty mediocre, so there’s not much loss in spoiling that anyway. If you weren’t planning on playing the game, then go for it I say. If you were then that’s a bit of a tough call since it takes several tens of hours to finish the game (depending on fast you read). Ultimately it’s upto you in the end but the safest route for maximum enjoyment and avoiding spoilers would definitely be play the F/SN game first.

Also saw Guilty Crown eps 2. Seriously all i can think about when i watch this show is just tits and ass, so many skimpy or skin tight suits and they keep shoving it your face every two minutes too. Atleast they’re decently proportioned and well drawn lol

Guilty Crown eps2

Spoiler

Man talk about troll ending, dude’s still a wuss afterall lol. I think the shows probably gonna slow down for a bit now with this school life reset thing. Can’t believe the boss dude actually let him go back to normal life. But if he’s as BOSS as he’s suppose to be he’s probably got plans in motion already anyway, ala the transfer student move.

I just watched Sega Advertisem-I mean Ben-to ep 3. Every time someone eats a bento they earned they play this music that reminds me of the Charlie Brown Christmas special.

nope

I guess I’ll skip Fate/stay night and go right into that Fate/Zero. I watched a bit of Fate/stay when it first came out (damn, 5 years ago), but it didn’t get to me. Thanks for the info, guys.

Just watched the first two episodes of Guilty Crown. The production value of the show is absolutely ridiculous. I like. The first two episodes practically felt like a short movie. Definitely watching this series to see how it’ll end.

Gintama 231

Spoiler

I quote SJ’s favorite phrase as the gist of this episode: “penis.”

Essentially, an old man who served Gintoki and Hijikata their favorite dishes has passed away; and during his funeral, they’re the only ones who see his ghost. Of course, his ghost turns out to be a muscular dude and threatens the duo by stealing the souls of their comrades if they didn’t attend to his service properly. A lot happens, including his body getting thrown near everywhere and him having an erection while he’s still dead. Doesn’t help that his body crashes into a van full of alien based food…which all look like the aforementioned favorite SJ word. Eventually his wife managed to find her husband’s…thing and saves his carcass. It ends with both Hijkata and Gintoki having one last meal to remember the old guy.

…which has… well, you know by now .

A truly fearsome episode.

I hope everyone is reading Shingeki No Kyojin. A manga hasn’t grabbed me this hard in years, it has insane potential.

I’m trying not to like any of the characters(like Potato Girl) because they could get their head bitten off in the next chapter I read.

That is one stacked middle schooler. You know what’s funny is that back when I was in middle school, a girl stacked like that would be impossible. But these days… it almost seems the norm. Maybe the fail shota can confirm/deny that most of the girls in his high school are stacked. Futhermore, I honestly didn’t expect Yuno to be like that, considering her uniform seems to hide her assets pretty well.

In any case, Mirai Nikki is pretty god damn baller. Probably my favorite show of the season. Can’t wait for next week!
