They look like monsters from another planet. But far from inhabiting some alien world light-years from ours, these frightening looking creatures exist at the bottom of Earth’s deepest oceans.
Astonishing new pictures of Polychaetes, or scale worms, show how they have evolved to survive the intense pressures more than 1,000 meters below the water’s surface, where the sun’s rays never penetrate.

Its like the fleshlight from hell.

those first two pictures are incredible. it looks like a sock puppet with nipples for eyes.

We would be so fucked if those things got bigger and came towards land.

Last-ditch DNA battle to save Tasmanian devil from extinction at hands of contagious cancer spread by biting

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2102121/Tasmanian-devil-risk-extinction-contagious-cancer-spread-biting.html#ixzz1mw9ZCr4e

The Tasmanian devil is the only animal on Earth at risk of being wiped out by a contagious cancer.

The cancer, which is spread by biting, came from the cells of a single female Tasmanian devil, nicknamed ‘The Immortal Devil’ because although she died more than 15 years ago, her DNA is living on in the contagious cancer cell line that she spawned.

The cancer causes tumours on the face of affected devils. The tumours grow rapidly and the devils die within months.

A bill of rights for dolphins: They’re so smart we must treat them as ‘non human persons’ say scientists

[]**Given the opportunity, dolphins will watch TV and follow instructions delivered on the screen. Chimps do this only after months of training. **
[
]Dolphins can be taught to understand human words, sentences and demands.
[]**Like humans, dolphins are altruistic and there are examples of them going to the aid of swimmers and surfers attacked by sharks. **
[
]They use body language. The ‘side-flop’, jumping clear of the water and landing on their side, is thought to mean: ‘I want to go now.’
[]They have regional accents, with the whistles made by those off Wales different to those living off the Irish coast.
[
]They have a form of adult onset diabetes but are able to turn it on and off. Learning how they do this could lead to new treatments for the human form of the condition.
[*]Males woo females by presenting them with gifts from bouquets of weed to sticks and lumps of marine debris.

The funny thing is, if it weren’t for these waterparks, I wonder how many advancements in dolphin research would have been made. I mean, like the panda and wildlife conservation (and that they’re pandas), waterparks have probably kept dolphins, killer whales, etc. in the minds of the public.

Now we have to worry about people wanting to fuck them/marrying them
No, seriously. You know someone is going to do it.

Bungling: Its one skill is climbing trees - yet, despite being unable to fly, it often tries to take off when at the top

Friendly: Kakapos, like this one on Codfish Island, New Zealand, will approach predators - to their peril

Although the 8lb parrot has developed a bright green cloak of feathers that hides it among the surrounding verdant undergrowth, it has few other useful skills. It has is very friendly and will – if you’re lucky enough to spot one - come right up to you. Often, when alarmed, it has a habit of freezing and simply not moving. Other times it may run up into a tree as it is an excellent climber.
Unfortunately, once it reaches the top, it is liable to attempt to fly away – sometimes with tragic consequences. At most females have an urge to have sex only once every two years, which is what leads to the potentially deadly male frustration. Conservationists discovered that the more females are fed, the more horny they will become. Another problem lies in the fact that the vast majority chicks are male. Males compete for attention by crying out at the top of their voices. In dense mountainous jungle, the noises appear come from everywhere. It can be very confusing for interested females to distinguish between them and even more so to find the horny male the like the sound of.

I thought most waterparks were connected to or relatively close to the ocean. Maybe dolphins can still willingly entertain humans if they were given the choice to enter or leave waterparks.
