I cant believe that for almost 5 months I havent touched Fei, I guess the OP status made me lose interest and switched to Gen. so is fei long still top tier in your opinion, if he is not I want to play him again

He’s still hanging somewhere with the dominating forces. I feel he’s barely breaking Top 5, or just shy of making it.

Fei Long was never “over powered” in my opinion, just a little too ‘explosive.’ His nuts got a little clipping, and fairly so–for the most part.

Kind of confusing why you’d drop him just because he was oh-so-strong, now you’re contemplating if he’s worthwhile (ie: weaker?) again.

I feel before fei favored less on precision and more on damage. Now it seems the opposite, you have to be very controlled and precise. His ground game and options are still solid and for some odd reason I find it more fun in 2012.
As far top-tier it depends on the person controlling the character.

dude mago is back with him man still have some faith

…and not winning by the looks of it. Fuudo seems to have a better grasp of Fei in these last 6 months.

Too mainstream.

he is top 5

Fei is in the top tier for sure. I am back to winning quite a bit, and took second (my highest) at our area tournament using Fei/Sagat. I played hella better with Fei than Sagat too. It’s just revision, that’s it.

I kinda fell into the same trap. I let all the crap people talked about him screw with my perception of Fei and my ability to play him. but now I’m like, wtf was I thinking? my main for my whole life, dropped because a bunch of other people cry like some bitches? to hell with that noise, screw people. after picking him back up in the lab and running some endless matches, I cant believe how I’ve tortured myself over the past month using Fei strategy with Oni.

if you’ve got love for a character and it fits your style then play it, but shunning the top tier is probably a worse idea than whoring it.

For me its not about him being weaker, its what his play style has become in 2012, hes a one trick pony, in 2012 you pretty much just going to rekka which is why i switched to Yun hes become boring.

Shrugs, well I guess I can still try my hands on Fei again, I might even start a new tutorial series again lmao. thanks guys. @Highlander you still love this your Display Pic

lol thread

Too mainstream

the quality of his play style remains the same. The quantity is just toned down a bit.

I suppose it’s a good thing people are dropping him too inn this update. Separates players who can adapt to small changes.

Mago and Fuudo are still using Feilong fine.

Nah man, i don’t think you get what i’m trying to say, Fei is still a really strong character but in this version there’s less fun factor since he has less tools, i just wish he had more combo ability like in ST and alpha, its gets boring doing the same 3 combos every match, if they ever do a 2013 patch Fei for sure is going to get nerfed again hes doing too well in tournaments even if its the same 2 people that are doing well with him. I only really pull out Fei if i’m having a lot of trouble.

ehhhmmm, ok, I played Gen for like years without touching Fei for almost 6 months, went to a local gathering and my Gen got beaten pretty bad, then at the last sets he also got bodied and I was like what the fuck let me use Fei and funny enough I blew the guy out of the water with basic Fei stuff. man he is gatlike still, I guess Fei will always be fei, Straight like a ruler and hits like a ton of bricks (used to hit like a truck b4 lol)

i just picked up fei in this version, but the only thing I seemed to have miss is cl-HP link after the EX CW was easier, and CW x-up tricks.

I think the x-up on CW was ok, but what peeves me about Fei is he can’t link into this rekka but has to cancel. Some combos feel like a link, but one of his most important lk, lk-lp-rekka is a friggin one frame cancel! Screw that! lol…

I keep getting better at it, but I dunno coming from Ken, it just seems like a stupid barrier of entry to get consistent with one of Fei’s bnb. I don’t care for the CW shenanigans personally (maybe because i haven’t experienced them) I would really just prefer a link for rekka, his c.mk to link into rekka, or a faster command throw.

I’d be more than happy with any of those buffs…Vega friggin out pokes you and it would be nice to consistently land a rekka combo after you get a c.lk c.lk off, but I will just have to practice that. RIght now tho–grrrr…I hate VEGAS!

Both ex-CW and hk-CW into cl.hp was always a 1-frame link in all versions, but that is where plinking helps, which turns the hard to do 1 frame into a line of 3 inputs one frame apart making it relatively easy to do. And those CW cross ups were way too good, especially since you could get just shy of 400dmg from the corner cross up which was way beyond broken because it was so hard to block. You can link his cr.mp into rekka on counter hit. It’s another one framer but isn’t that hard once you get it down. Also fei’s command grab is easily one of the best in the game as it can lead to around 350-400+ dmg all depending on how much meter you have. If you’re having trouble landing it then you have to use his awesome frame traps to keep them from hitting buttons.

Mago used Tenshin 3 times in 14 matches against Daigo. That should give you an idea of how often you need to use it.

yeah, I think it’s just familiarty with the character…gotta learn the ins and outs of Fei, and not just the basics, my ground game is not that good, don’t use his over head enough, spam c.mp too much and FA, and I’m not consistent with c.lk c.lk c.lp–>Rekka. But I am pretty good with c.lk st.lp c.lp–>Rekka and I have a pretty solid x-up game from playing with ken (man I miss my kara throw lol) I’m not sure how to plink on pad with all three buttons though, might be able to get two off though with some practice. I can kara throw/kara fireball on pad, so it shouldn’t be that hard to plink.

on the next patch–I don’t think Capcom can really nerf Fei without making him garbage. Rekka is a really good move, and Fei’s normals are amazing, but he’s still a very one-dimensional character and it really takes the player’s own skill level to pull out wins with him. Characters like Viper or Ibuki have the benefit of “tricks” or moves that make you follow a certain pattern, confuse you, or make you play cautiously. It doesn’t matter how good a Fei is, as a shoto player, I’ve never been “scared” to go toe-to-toe with him. He’s still a basic character, I’m pretty confident he won’t be touched at all in an update.

As much as I hate Ibuki, I will say she doesn’t really need buffs/nerfs, but for once, for just one FRIGGIN version, can you please NERF THAT SLUT VIPER! omg…safe on block burn kicks, safe thunder knuckle, EX seismo, who designed a character who excels at spamming specials??! I’m not saying scrubs can be nice with her, you have to have good execution, but man, she is like the exact opposite of what SF represents to me. And on top of all that, I don’t have fun fighting good Vipers. It’s a match about me not “messing up” and giving them a big combo into Ultra, and c.mk her dive kicks so I don’t get caught in mix-up. no head games, no mind fakes, just DON"T MESS UP. what a lame character design really…I reallly hate her, with a passion.

Tricks and gimmicks are okay, but I wouldn’t say that fei longs solid no-gimmick play style is a downside. Ibuki and viper can’t be played in the same way fei can, they really can only do their tricks and mixups, they don’t have the solid normals and stamina to be played like fei can.

Also, to an extent, I don’t feel like viper having safe spam friendly specials is her strong point. Feis moveset is basically all fairly safe, and he actually has normals to back em up. Same with bison. The annoying stuff is the mauling ambiguous play style and ridiculous damage potential :stuck_out_tongue:
