What i think you fail to view is the father might know exactly what she is doing and obviously did not want her doing it.
From the tone she had been warned multiple times and the attempts at reasoning had failed.

As a parent you have no obligation to explain the reasons for every one of your choices to said child because believe it or not i would say 80% of the time the parent’s reasoning is because your doing it in lieu of what you need to do to succeed.

I don’t believe the father even had a grasp on what she was doing, especially because he didn’t let her explain herself. From the tone he expressed, I believe he just gets irrationally angry and that is evidenced by his divorce from his wife for abuse. He has major psychological issues.

As a parent, maybe you don’t have to explain to your child why they are being punished, but you must have at least a valid reason for yourself. Also I’m sure it would help a child’s understanding if you actually ‘sentenced’ them and then punished.

Not sure what else you are looking for here but i’ll say personally that was not abuse i do not agree with abuse but a belting like that is not abuse.

A case could be made for verbal abuse but being hit with a belt what 12 times or so in that manner is far from it.
