An attempt at Chun Li

Ya the only time you really ever see nuki jump is to escape corner throws, some other random times but rarely. I’ve watched quite a few nuki vids and noticed that to. Rikimaru and someothers use j. d+MK > j. FP > sometimes adding the jab reset when people try to escape the corner. Chun+Li is just a monster on the ground and has a mediocre air game.

… I don’t know why you neg so much on j wong man … no one’s gonna say nuki and a few others probably aren’t better but he’s definately good enough for a mid-tier player to take points out of his game to help them. The point is to help the o. poster get a solid enough Chun Li so that he can play her competantly and at least have an IDEA of how to play her correctly, not turn him into Nuki or Tokido. No one on these boards is good enough to give someone advice that would bring them up to that level.

I mean to be just as offensive to someone as they are to me.

wow, dumbass much. he was doing the same shit you were, just not nearly as bad/stupid/assholish.

yeah, you’re neg tickled. I can see why you would be -400,000…but then had to circle jerk for some rep I see.

point being, if the person is more successful at the game then you are, especially greatly more successful, there is obviously always something you can learn from them.

Anyways i deleted my post to help this guys thread out. Not gonna start a flame war on his thread.

soo, judge if you do wanna learn i wouldnt narrow the search to a few just look at everyone, Even people who arent good can teach you want not to do.

Another decent person is fubarduck

well my view of learning any character you want to take seriously is this:

aim for the absolute top, even if you can’t do the techniques still get the ideas behind them. before i could kara i use standard tick throws with walking up, so when i got a stick and could kara i was used to how to implement that momentum and stuff into my gameplay.

but this is my advice for learning chun: learn the COMPLETE mixups. meaning that allot of times in videos the things you see are parts of a larger mixup process.
the reason that nuki does say toward + mk and then standing jab didn’t make sense to me at first.
why go for that i would wonder?
]then much later i realized that the toward+mk is PERFECT mk kara distance. so when people catch on they will jump to avoid the throw, the jab keeps them from jumping.
but why jab and not backfierce or standing strong!?
well because you can cancel the standing jab to ducking jab to make it parry proof and even better you can super after the 2 jabs!
you can also just go for a low forward if they don’t jump and instead try to tech your kara throw, leading to free super. but since that is dangerous you see most top players jump.

thats allot of mixup and options for ONE setup move of toward+mk!

i spent tons of time watching vids and thinking really hard about the “complete mixups” i knew that i was losing to things that these players had evolved beyond. i would get hit with things and go “WHY DON’T THEY GET HIT WITH IT!?” and it was frustrating because the knowledge was almost coded into the videos.

hope that helps. watching japanese videos there is so much information and the level of skill is so high that its hard to see complete mixup. examine the same setup in different videos to look for different reactions to it.
don’t worry so much about actually being able to do these techniques, that comes with time … just try to SEE it.

btw: pherai what do you look like? i think a long while ago at ffa you kara demoned me and i came over to tell you it was dope. im white dude short brown hair, who plays white chun. i mention it cuz dander said something like pherai jesus in his valle drama and i realized i think you demoned me.

Edit: Cleared post cause SIMPLY_HUGO deleted his post.

I’m white, kind of look like jesus (long hair, beard). I pick jab color Akuma if it helps. Kara demon is my favorite setup so it’s likely it was me  Say hi next time you see me

Short comments:

Hit confirms. Feints. Poking, poking, poking. Space control. Cr.forward as jumping opponents near landing…when he perfects his timing on this, he is able to hit air-borne opponents low before they even hit the ground. The timing on this looks strict…he misses is sometimes, but rarely.

kara throw is standing RH right?

MOV’s Chun’ has been pretty ridiculous the last 2 years or so. He’s definitely the one to watch at the moment.
Nuki was the best a while back, but at some point, MOV got a lot better.

Or far st.mk.

is there a difference in the range

s.mk has longer range, but close s.RH can be used for SGGK option select.

sorry but what???

Walking forward RH. The MK kara throw has the longer range and the joystick must be neutral while the buttons are pressed.

Killer Chun-Li advice:

Stick out whatever random pokes you like. You’ll always out prioritize whatever crap they’re up to unless it’s an SRK. Throw whenever they get sick of their moves being beaten clean every time and start blocking.

No, for the RH kara throw you have to have the stick in neutral and be close. If you press forward + HK you’ll do her hopping spin kick move and probably won’t get the karathrow.

Personally, I just use her close HK kara throw because the spacing is easier. With far MK karathrow, it won’t work if you’re too close.

just stick to far MK.

cl.HK is only good if you’re going to SGGK.

Otherwise there’s really no point. Why would you kara throw from close?

There is a range at which MK will not work as a kara but you’re still to far away to throw. You’ll end up trying to kara throw with close s.MK, which does not cancel. It is a weird distance, but you can only kara throw with HK.

I actually went home to try the walking RH kara and it still works.

interesting, didn’t know that, thanks. :woot:
