Americans Only Watch 17 TV Channels

Agreed completely. Theres lots of good stuff on TV but if you choose to tune ino CNN or some Kardashian/Chrisltey bullshit you only have yourself to blame.

I flip between about or just under 20 channels on a weekly basis, not including stuff I got my DVR locked onto to watch at my leisure so yeah that sounds about right.

If I were to get TV again, I would only watch a small handful of channels. Sports Channel, Cartoon and Comedy channels, Global (they show fox cartoons up here in Canada), and MAYBE a cooking channel. Then I suppose I’d need AMC or HBO or whatever too, for like one fucking show.

Hence why I just use the internet now. I hate commercials with a passion. I work God awful hours at work, and thus watch the few shows I do enjoy at fucked up hours and days or even weeks later. I can’t be bothered with DVRing shit when I can just download it and watch it forever.

Is this 17channels daily?

I still have cable & cost me $250 a month, that’s w/ the triple plan phone/cable/internet all the premium channels. We also got Netflix & Amazon Prime.

HBO: Game of Thrones/*True Blood
*AMC: Walking Dead
Cinemax: Skinamax, *Banshee
BET: Fresh Prince of Bell-air
CBS: Survivor
*Starz: Black Sails
*Fox: Usually plays the seahawks
Spike: Bar Rescue on Sundays marathon
NFL Channel
ESPN
Food Network
Disney
Nickelodeon

*Not watching currently

Once those shows are over i pretty much done w/ that channel. So the only thing i watch is Fresh Prince of Bell Air.

I had Japan’s Sky Perfect TV a while back. They let you buy each cable channel instead of just paying for all of it. I bought MTV and Fox and was happy. I guess it’s easier for US cable/media companies to lobby and fuck your ISP bandwidth, instead of changing their business model into something modern and consumer-friendly.

The funny part is that the cable company’s are claiming they pull this shit due to the providers, yet if they were put in a tight situation both providers and cable companies would cave like music companies and mp3s.

Fight all u want, u can’t compete against a for free business model

If all cable providers just said fuck you do it this, all providers will follow suit.

Sadly it won’t happen anytime soon especially because Time Warner owns HBO and Time Warner still holds people hostage to their massive monthly bills with the promise of HBO. It’s not even to the point of greed anymore, but survival.

Whenever I don’t eat in front of my laptop and on an actual table, I turn on the TV and watch Law and Order SVU (fuck you haters if ima sit down and watch TV i wanna see mariska hartigay and stephanie march)

I hate Law and Order because it reminds me of this one bitch I used to date.

17 sounds about right in my household

  1. CBS

  5. TBS
  6. FX
  7. MSG

  17. Food
  18. Cooking

and if there isn’t anything on these channels, then “there’s nothing on tv”

I have still have cable in my house because of my parents. Netflix and Hulu+ don’t have Telemundo, and many other Spanish channels they regularly watch. Can’t get rid of cable because of that.

What the fuck does Fox News and ESPN have to do with your cable bill? you can blame the lack of the ability to order channels ala carte on government forcing cable providers to offer certain channels, and local governments get a 3-5% commission on sales and can deny a company a licence to operate in the area, so they force bundled packages to increase revenue to the government.

LOL at people in here…

“TV sucks! All I watch is cartoons!!”

If we got a la carte, shit like CNN, Fox News, ESPN would likely cost you the vast majority of your cable bill, alone. This is why it gets thrown in packages with like 50 shit channels, to appeal to customers.

If they go a la carte, like 200 channels would fold in no time. Which isn’t really a bad thing.

But yeah, the channels that DO get watched, get watched enough that they’re quite literally the reason your cable bill is high, not the other 200 channels you get.

^That Right thur. I wouldn’t watch half as much news if not for the ladies who deliver it. Once they start fucking with that, I’m cutting the cable. Most of the stuff on HBO, cinemax, etc. Can be found in torrents. Except for live programs, Not much else is on worth my time.

-Starhammer-

Yeah, I’m actually amazed that streaming channels is somewhat rare still. Most people just torrent/stream it later. Sports is streamed though. Cable is done when more people start streaming actual shows, live.

Anywho, what’s up with people who can watch ANYTHING? Never understood that. They channel surf until they realize nothing is on, then just watch a documentary about making nails and screws on Discovery.
