American Government Thread 2: RIP John McCain, 81

I really cant decide if its because Florida is super stupid, or the other states just keep it low key.

Texas isn’t low-key about it.

They just scare us enough we don’t bring them up.

R.I.P. JFK.

Lets see should I trust someone who lives a normal life like me or someone taking millions from big business/NRA and the like?

This is how it should be and what she IS about and the Dem party is going to become…

Trump thinks running on racist rhetoric gets him 2020

Redisctricting with more blue seats and more dem governors sort of ruins that

See being a men’s right advocate i can think of so many ways men get fucked by the justice system

But not all women are evil

Domestic terrorists are real and they all consider themselves sovereign citizens

Just a group of gun toting psychopaths

Just in my experience two types of vets.

Ones who are normal and psychopaths

There is no middle ground

How this dude got an off roster hand gun and hicap mags makes me think he used his military id to make some purchases before hand

This dude was some worked up maniac

Waiting for the maga

Wanting to protect the taxpayers from 7000 drains on society is not racist rhetoric. I dgaf what color you are, what I do care about is your net impact on the economy. With illegal immigrants consuming more in social benefits than they produce, it’s not an issue of race

If anything, acosta disrespects his fellow reporters by bogarding the mic, ignoring presser protocol, and basically being a gotcha journalist. He’s the press equivalent of the Twitter people who quote racist tweets to dunk on them and make themselves look cool. I don’t think it’s right that he was banned for the reasons they banned him, but hes been nothing but obnoxious and while I would like to hear the administration answer some of the questions he asks, I’d prefer them to be coming from someone who doesn’t seem to want to make everything about himself because at least I know that way, there’s a chance they might get answered rather than the press secretary writing off anything he has to say because he seems unable to control himself.

She’ll be just like the rest of them, she just hasn’t had the opportunity yet.

If someone could actively prove that gerrymandering was taking place, that a certain party was doing it, and that it was having an effect on elections, would it be enough to bring a lawsuit against said party?

Tucker Carlson ? :rofl::joy:

that guy always has that look on his face like he doesn’t know what’s going on.

In his mind he is trying to learn everything and confusing himself

It’s generally legal just asshole. However the Republicans took it far enough that they’ve lost court battles on the subject. I or anyone can get you references tomorrow if you’re curious.

Immigrants that are here legally don’t even get benefits beyond emergency healthcare and schooling for at least five years, as was signed into law in the 90’s, but illegal immigrants, who often procure fake Social Security cards in order to work, end up paying into those entitlement programs without receiving the vast majority of benefits because the SSA just puts that money aside because it can’t find the proper SSN to go with it. Money that is used to further finance those entitlement programs that are barely hanging on.

The idea that immigrants are these blood suckers who just eat and eat at our benefits but give nothing back doesn’t hold up under any scrutiny. The main peddlers of these theories are institutions like the Center for Immigration Studies, which, if you follow the organization’s pockets back to its origins, are run and founded by, shocker, racists and white nationalists.

Even the Libertarian think tank The Cato Institute, founded by the dipshit Koch brothers, has had its main immigration expert, Alex Nowrasteh, do extensive research into immigration and can’t find anything to back up those very common talking points.

But, as you can see, when you bring facts to the barking dogs repeating the faulty rhetoric founded on bigoted views, all they can is laugh incredulously and say you’re lying.

Now if the crux of the argument is actually a fundamental disagreement with the welfare state as it exists, then that’s a whole different can of worms. But most of the talking points about immigrants taking our jobs and sucking up our economy are not proven in any way by statistics, and are typically a talking point of bigots with money and their hired stooges.

Then you must absolutely hate billionaires.

Because they don’t even pay taxes.

They make money off of having money.

The economy is a rigged game.

And all the money trickles up.

So yeah, you are either ignorant or an elitist/elitists’ pawn, and that speaks of a rather extremely myopic, .99999 repeating mathematically approaching certainty of a racist world view.

Even the simple math illustrates it.

So yeah.

well, their judgement has always been suspect. who else would follow a man whom is considered to be a moron by the people in his own administration. still, it’s pretty funny to watch trump getting mad at the midterm results and lashing out at the press in a wwe like performance to deflect attention from his losses.

mad. they need to keep that same energy. the coordinated posts, the inability to squash beefs, the airing of grievances and resentments, etc were funny. also, showing up like an angry mob one day after midterms only makes it more hilarious.

agreed. it’s not the media’s job to lob softball questions at the president. trump can always go to fox news if he needs that kind of mollycoddling. presidents not named trump have a thick enough enough skin to handle these questions. they may not like it, but they don’t take it personally either.

OTOH, if a president is acting hoemotional because his ho card got pulled by a reporter (jim acosta, really?). if a president needs to lie about what happened, post doctored videos and pull press credentials in a fit of infantile petulance. how is he going to react when a real crisis hits?

completely disagree. i just watched the q & a on cspan. acosta is hardly the first and only reporter to shout, ask challenging questions or ask follow-up questions in an aggressive manner. peter alexander, who defended and followed acosta, did the same thing and even told trump,“you didn’t answer my question”. of course, trump acts offended about the question and cries about nbc news.

in any case, sam donaldson was well known for this during the reagan administration. the WH press corps don’t have 24/7 access to the president. it’s not unusual for a president to go months without a press conference or briefing. the president doesn’t always answer or take questions whenever he invites the press to report on a statement or an announcement he’s going to make. most of the time, the WH press corps are talking to other administration officials, aides or the press secretary to get information or insight. so, when they get their opportunity to speak to him no matter the conditions or setting. they have to make the most of it.

here’s a video of reagan giving a press briefing. at the end of his briefing (skip to 3:50), reagan said he wasn’t taking any more questions and what did the press do? they barraged him with questions anyway (you can hear donaldson shouting questions along with the other reporters in the background). why the fuck not? he might answer or he might not and reagan did answer another question.

more importantly, here’s what didn’t happen despite the look of exasperation on reagan’s face. he didn’t take it personally. he didn’t take pot shots at reporters. he didn’t pout and act petulant in his response. he didn’t interrupt and try to talk over reporters while they were asking their question. he didn’t get combative and berate the reporters for asking questions. he didn’t air his grievances against the press. acosta isn’t the one with the abnormal behavior on display.

on a side note, did anyone see trump’s response to the pbs reporter?

trumpism, y’all.

He is truly like his cult.
Can’t answer a hard-nosed question without spazzing out.

Lacks any tact or self-control. I’m surprised he didn’t take out a poster with an NPC and say “WE ARE WHITE NATIONALIST NAZIS, RIGHT? BUT YOU ARE PERFECT INDIVIDUALS”

Blame puerto rico and claim there are no dead

I understand all that and it’s normal for the press people to ask questions all at once like that. The problem I have with Acoata is what I said before, he soaks up time because it seems like he thinks hes more worthy of asking questions than anyone else and purposely takes up time asking questions he probably knows full well they aren’t going to answer, especially because hes purposely obnoxious. If I were a WH reporter, a guy like that would piss me off because that adds another obstacle to doing your job.

RE Reagan, I don’t like Reagan’s policies, but as a man, Reagan is 10 times the guy Trump is. So why would you be shocked thwt Trump makes things petty and personal? That’s the kind of guy he is.
