i read about it about an hour after i posted. cohen said he would take a bullet for trump. pecker knew trump for years and did his dirt for him. weisselberg worked for the trumps for 40 years and the feds hemmed up all his boys seemingly flipping them all in a matter of days. i bet trump is looking at don mcgahn real funny around the oval office.
just because trump babbles the words “russia” and “collusion” a million times a day like a broken record on twitter and tv doesn’t mean mueller’s investigation is obligated to conclude what trump thinks he should conclude. it’s an investigation not an foregone conclusion. also, his purview is broader than people think. mueller always had the power to go after any criminal activity he uncovers in the course of his investigation.
mueller’s office could have directly handled the cohen investigation. it is a part of his purview under section ( c). in any case, cohen’s office raid by the us attorney’s office for the sdny was in part due to receiving a referral from the special counsel office. which means mueller came across some info on cohen in the course of his investigation and he passed the evidence along to sdny. which leads to sdny securing a search warrant on the president’s own lawyer (which isn’t a easy thing to do). which leads to three of trump boys including the president’s own cfo singing like canaries and that raid may not have happened so quickly or not at all without mueller’s investigation.
