American Football 2019 Thread:

Why were you a Skins fan to begin with? I don’t get or understand the fair weather fan. Like I am being serious, I member you being a Skins Bruh but now seem to love you some Vikings. Why switch? How long on the Skins and what made you switch?

I am 35 and have been a Bucs “fan” since I was 8 because they were a sexy shade of orange and were a shitty 5-11 team then. I can say 2002 was awesome but really because growing up in socal before the likes of online sales it was nice to be able to buy Bucs stuff at like Wal-Mart.

1997 was the only time I considered changing because that pretty shade of orange was changing.

Don’t most people become fans of their hometown team? That would make the most sense.

I am in NO WAY hating, in the NBA I can say I love any team LeBron is on and that is saying some thing because I grew up HATING ONLY the Lakers and growing up in the ghettos of SoCal that was no-no. I hated Kobe and every time I made it clear I hated him and would first rep the Clip I was deeemed evil.

I love the Kings and Suns from living close (Reno and Phx) and getting to go to games for them. I love the Raptors for the OG jersey(yes before they were good and even before Bosh). My “fav” team is the Suns right now for local support and it helps they are orange but because I moved a lot I get that changing for some.

I had been a Skins fan for all my life, growing up in Virginia. There are pictures of me in Redskins PJs when I was two years old and they won the Superbowl in 1983. They were the home team so they were my team.

I got fed up with all the horrible shit Dan Snyder has done to them. I can give you a laundry list if you like, but it would take a while. I just got sick of it. The final straw was when they franchise tagged Cousins for the second straight year. As soon as they did that I decided I’m not going to follow them anymore until Dan Snyder sells the team. I needed a new team, so I said that wherever Cousins ends up that’s who I’m going to start pulling for. I let fate decide who my team was going to be a year before it happened.

And it just so happens that my best friend who’s like a brother to me (we were each other’s best men in our weddings, we were in a band together, we drank together, and now we’re sober together, and it’s been a long fucking road through all of that), well, he’s from Minnesota and the Vikings have always been his team. And since we watch football together every Sunday, it’s not like I wasn’t watching the Vikings for a long time anyway. I thought it was serendipitous that Cousins went there after I decided he was going to be the vehicle to changing my fandom.

So now I’m a Vikings fan. I actually went to the Vikings game when the Redskins played them in Minnesota this year. I was a little apprehensive about how I would feel watching that game. But I didn’t feel torn at all when I was there. I wanted the Vikings to beat the Redskins, and I got to see it happen. No mixed feelings at all.

Another part of it is that I grew up a Redskins fan because of my grandparents on my dad’s side. Well, it turns out later on in life I found out some shit about how my dad was abused by his stepfather as a child and it really fucked him up. Those grandparents have died now, and I have a weird negative connotation with the Redskins because of that. So the split wasn’t a difficult thing for me at all.

It’s not like I’m jumping from team to team. This was a calculated decision, made all the better because the Vikings are also my friend’s team.

I don’t root for my hometown team in any sport. Growing up I was just the opposite: I either rooted for their rivals or rooted for expansion teams/teams with colors I like.

I know a few people who left being a Skins fan due to Snyder.

Oh and this is great.

Ya it wasn’t a team to to team thing like I usually see with people which is why I was curious. I know a lot of true band-wagoners who change teams on a year basis. I have a Raiders fan in my family who stopped supporting them till Davis was willing to step down(or die) and after he did he went back to supporting them… at least the Glaziers stay out of it and even if I hate Litch at times I know if he fucks up anymore he is gone eventually. In the end we watch this for enjoyment and if a franchise isn’t providing that then I totally get it…

on a side note my Super Bowl final picks are Chiefs vs Saints… almost was 3 straight years of Pats vs Saints.

Someone said that the Seahawks threw that game. In other words, lost on purpose in order to play against a weaker team in the playoffs then have the 3rd rubber match between the Niners.

Hell, I 100% believe this!!!

So a team would give a guarenteed home game and be a likely 5 point favorite to then have to go on the road and be a 1 point favorite? Yep totally sounds smart… Also the 3rd seeds can still host the NFC Champ game and the 5 seed has a virtual no chance.

No team would tank for a specific spot unless it was some SERIOUS reason like lets say it was the Eagles in the 4th and you knew it and they lost Wentz and McCown and would be forced to play some rando and you would be a clear 10 point road favorite easy kinda win then IDK maybe that conspiracy theory has some validity but yea dude they just lost by a yard and its not 4d chess.

They also forgot to have a jersey out there for Ron Rivera which he clearly told them he wanted and expected.

And it was literally RIGHT after he talked about how everyone has to be on the same page lol.

That said, I liked his press conference and am more hype than I should be for next season. It’s really just more that Bruce Allen is gone though and things will 100% change. But how they change is yet to be seen.

The fact that he said all decisions are going to be a collaboration, and that if they can’t come to an agreement that Snyder will have the final say, I did NOT like that. I mean Snyder has no clue about football so he shouldn’t have any say.

Also, the other point…even if Philly is the easier opponent (which is honestly debatable with how poorly the Vikings have played the last few weeks)…you now have to play the Niners in the Divisional Round IN San Fran while they come off a Bye Week, compared to not having to see the Niners until the NFC Title game at the earliest and it’d be in Atlantis.

ESPN is just blowing up a vague tweet by Ed Werder into actual news, hoping it’ll force Jerry into saying something.

I am starting to think Jason Garrett has something on Jerry Jones. Like if you fire me I will leak those photos of you and Craft getting those Asian massages together because this is a clean and easy firing. Even if you think Garrett isn’t the problem(he isn’t fully) that base of crazies has made themselves think he is and will accept nothing short of his firing.

@purbeast Chase Young just declared for the draft. Glad we sowed up the number 2 pick.

Yeah heard that on my way home from the gym. Defense could be nice with the right coaching.

With Ron Rivera and JDR on the staff if you don’t have a nice defense in two years after that the building needs to be burned down.
