Use V-Dhalsim or Ken. Something different there for you.
Thanks fellas i know the question was simple but itās been a Long while since iā dont play Alpha⦠another āsimpleā question⦠you are on the floor an you want yo catch your opponent who is in the air about to hit you with a super combo finish.
do i just have to start inputting the motion when iām gettin up or after that?
Input the motion while youāre on the floor or just starting to do your stand-up animations (depending on how fast you can input the motions). You need to hit the button as you recover (right before complete recovery) if you want a reversal. IIRC you have a 1 or 2 frame window if you want a reversal, so timing is essential.
If youāre not going for a reversal, then just time it so that you input the motion as youāre standing and press the button right as you fully recover.
Iād have to reccomend A-Sim to someone who hasnāt played the game in a whileā¦
Muskau- Classical mode shares the same properties as X as far as damage and stuff. It mentions the juggle limitations, but I canāt understand what they say. I read something about them in James Chenās old combo systems guideā¦
Speaking of throws and walking speed, I canāt find anything that says that X/V have longer throw range than A. I think itās an illusion created by the slight increase in walking speed (if A-ISM is rated 1.0, X is 1.2 and V is 1.4). Kind of like how Chun Liās throw range is shorter than a lot of charactersā (24 pixels vs Shoto, Sagat, Charlie etc 32-34), but she can still get a lot of throws off, because she walks faster.
And god damn Japan. This old ass book has combos in it Iāve never even seen. 47-hit Balrog VC :wtf:
boxer Balrog? post it!
been looking for a reason to play V-Rogā¦

Just some little tips to add to thisā¦
Do the motion when youāre getting up, and finish it right before you can get hit, like Xenozip said.
But there are little button pressing tricks you can do to help increase your success rate once you do the motion.
Ok, so youāre getting up⦠and letās say you want to do a DP as reversal. You perform your joystick motion, and then you can drum your fingers over all the punch buttons, and let them go. The same way you would drum your fingers on your desk if you were bored or something.
Remember, releasing a button is the same as pressing a buton when it comes to executing specials. So if you drum your fingers right, you get 6 punch button inputs, very quickly, in a very short time period.
Once you perform your joystick motion, the game will recognize it, and āholdā it, waiting for a button input. So you can perform, and complete your motion just before you get up, and drum your fingers⦠if you happen to input a punch button during the reversal window, Voila! Reversal DP!
Instead of trying to pinpoint the reversal window EXACTLY with 1 single input, you have a constant stream of inputs happening. If the reversal window appears during this stream, you should get a reversal DP.
This makes it much much easier to perform reversals⦠Once I started using this method, my reversal success rate went up tenfold. Itās good.
This is great is you donāt care which button executes the special⦠X-ism Supers for example. However, if you really want a specific button to execute the special you can use another technique.
If you really need that HP dragon punch, or HP for that A-ism lvl3⦠you can drum just the one button. One way is to use your middle and index finger. First, flick you middle finger downward on and off the button, and the your index finger right after. Thatās 4 possible inputs. I geuss you could use 3 fingers⦠hell, I suppose you could use 2 hands and get 16 inputs or something. But this should work well enough.
Then thereās other stuff to maybe keep in mind⦠like, if you have 2 levels of meter, MP and HP will both activate it, so drum both those buttons if you want a lvl2.
This technique is good for reversal sitautions (getting up, coming out of hitstun or blockstun, etc) but can also help with tight links or precise normal attack use⦠With normals though, releasing a button doesnāt count as an input.
Too much info? Maybe⦠but I would recommend EVERY player practice and take advantage of this. It makes it soooooo much easier to get reversal.
Keep looking. Itās just one of those Jab loop ones like the one from the old Fighters.net Rose videoā¦
Jumping Fierce, VC2, [standing Jab x4, Jumping Fierce]x4, Standing Jab x3, VC ends, Dashing Straight. I donāt know what characters it works on, but heās shown here working on Charlie, so I guess itās not just the big guys. There are a lot of these types of combos, apparentlyā¦
Drunken: Thatās also called āThe Daigoā.
Iāve been thinking about Adonās placement in the tiers lately, and I think heās probably better than heās given credit for. The main reasons I think heās not higher because his best ism is X, and has problems with V-ism characters. Not only because of lack of AC and roll, but his Jaguar Kick confusion/poke game can be easily taken advantage of with VC activation, despite all these factors though, I have seen good X-Adon players take down V-ism after V-ism player.
I think all of Adonās pokes have great priority, and his specials, if used sparingly are effective. He has good footspeed, throwrange, a jumping FK crossup, fast air throw, and a f+SP overhead. His Lvl 3 Jaguar Rush is nigh unpunishable, and even at lvl 1 his Jaguar Rush is tricky to punish, and in my opinion is one of the best lvl 1 supers in the game, start-up and priority wise. V-Adon is quite effective in V-ism as well, but I believe requires more stringent timing on his mid-screen and corner VCās than most characters.
I just think that in general most players rank Adon around Mid bottom tier when I think he has the potential of being a bottom 2nd tier character. Why is it that I have seen barely any Adon players in tourney footage?
Does anyone else have any experience with playing/fighting against Adon?
I think its less about how much Adon doesnāt suck compared to how many characters are better than him. 2nd tier, depending on how many chars per tier youād place it, consists of V-Ryu, V-Charlie, V-Sodom, and maybe V-Sagat? After that you still have Chun Li (who can arguably be moved up), Rolento, Cody, etc etc. I donāt think Adon is better than any of those characters
Well my opinion of the overall tiers is something like this, but I still believe alot of the 3rd tier characters are competive even though they are hanging near Dan  but I donāt feel many of the 3rd tier characters belong in 3rd tier, since I think itās really hard to rank them since they are almost equal to each other, since theyāve mostly been neglected in high lvl tournament play.

I would move Chun Li above Cody but thatās just me. I hate that bitch, and sheās bad enough as it is with just her normals, but if her infinite setups are that widespread in Japan as someone discussed in some other thread, they said its possible sheād be in the top/2nd. I hate characters donāt require effort
And for fun:
Akuma
Dhalsim
Sakura/Zangief/Charlie/Sodom
Sagat/Vega
Ryu
Rolento/Chun Li/Karin
Cody/Gen/Ken
Guy
Adon/M. Bison/Balrog/Juni/Rose

Everyone in V except for Dhalsim (A/V), Rolento (A/V), Gen, Guy, M. Bison, Balrog,(A), Chun Li (X, A, V), Blanka (A/V) Honda (A/V), and Cammy(A/V). And maybe R. Mika.
Attaching my updated Rose FAQā¦wasnāt sure where else to toss it.
part 1 below
and part 2, sections IX and X
Great FAQ, TS. I especially appreciate the matchup section because I really didnāt know what I should be doing at all versus some characters. Thanks!
Looking up at the A3 tiers I posted Iād probably knock Charlie and Sodom down one space. A3 is hard to tier not only because characters can hang with the tier above them (itās probably more like 2 tiers, actually), but there are random counter matches, or at least ones where certain characters seem advantaged. Like I put Gen a bunch of spaces below 'Gief, but even though Zangief is top 4 probably, Gen has a tendency to work him really badly. And Chun Li can randomly beast on Dhalsim, and I think V-Rolento can hang with V-Akuma, etc. Also this is based on what I percieve to be their strongest ISM, so it doesnāt account for versatility. I think at high levels a good A-ISM Ryu would do pretty well vs V-Sak, and there are some characters who might want to consider switching ISMs vs Dhalsim since their VCs are neutered.
Anywayā¦yeah, A3 = Good.
Thanks. Going to NorCal regionals 2 helped a lot, since I got to play a bunch of really good people and experience some matches I never get to otherwise (ie Rose vs Balrog).
Thanks for reading. Still havenāt worked in any info from the All About Zero 3 book yet thoughā¦
Good informative FAQ, TS.
So Iām guessing Rose is best in V-ism? Or is it a character specific thing with her?
V-Rolento has an infinite?
according to that FAQā¦
ah, thanksā¦
Muskau- I think at a certain point sheās better in V, mainly because the Level 3 Aura Soul Throw is probably her best super, and you can mash it down to like 25% damage instead of 50 if you damage reduce the whole thing (itās only like 4 hits, which actually makes it a little bit tricky). Wish that Soul Illusion super was better⦠Also the infnite helps. But if youāre opponent doesnāt realize they can mash down the super, then playing A-Rose is about 3x easier. Does more damage, far standing Roundhouse (and far standing Fierce and crouching Fierce, I think) have better priority, and her supers arenāt bad at level 2. And Soul Illusion is fun to play around with even though the unblockables which worked in A2 look like they can now be jumped or reversaled out of.
