I don’t wanna write a whole novel on this so I need your help. How does he turtle? Perhaps you’re not used to playing without charging? Charlie’s normals are top notch and can easily guardcrush. With the guardcrush meter, I don’t understand how Ryu could turtle and win. Let me know a bit how your matches are going and I’ll explain how to adjust.

Don’t be discouraged at all. Charlie is a great opponent for Ryu. The match is incredibly balanced imo. I don’t know how capcom does it sometimes but that is a great match. If anyone has the edge I think it would be Charlie in V vs V and Ryu in A vs A.

somewhere in the match something happens I can’t hit my opponent ( cpu ). It’s like his hitbox is gone !
I made a few shots using the emu. But it’s hard to get good shots although some are pretty clear
The most common invincibility glitch involves being hit in the air and air blocking, and then you become invincible when you land. Simple training mode setups in the corner…set the dummy to Air Recover backwards, with V-Charlie do a Short Flashkick, and then jump FP or RK, etc. After they land from the blocked FP, try and hit them ASAP, and your attacks will whiff. With Ryu you can do JP Shoryuken, blocked jump Strong, with v-Gen you can do C.SK, blocked jump FP, etc…
If this is what’s happening with the CPU, and they somehow retain some of that invincibility, then either the CPU is jut cheating (which is really true regardless of the sitation), or you can somehow mess with that invincibility to prolong it (ie by crouch canceling when you walk or something after landing in your invincible state). You probably can’t do this, and it sounds like what’s going on may be a different glitch entirely.
you can actually hold the invincibility glitch til the round ends. its game breaking. its a pretty well known glitch it happens everytime the opponent blocks 2 or more moves in the air i believe. if that happens, the opponent just needs to hold d/b by the time he lands from the air blocking and everything passes right thru til he desides to let go of block. you cant throw or anything. its an extremely nasty glitch. i think thats how it works, its been a while. theres another method to get this so you can walk around and fight the rest of the match without any hitbox but i cant remember how execatly to get it, but its also similar. so basically to get the invincibility, its usually only gonna happen when the player is a V character since its realtively hard to hit a jumping opponent with 2 different air blocking moves withpout a vc…
maybe it has to do with ryu’s jumping strong then. Since it hits twice. when fighting rolento cpu I use a lot of jumping strongs against his wall jump. The weird thing is that I can throw my opponent and when i do they dizzy
and suddenly I can hit them again
I can’t remember what happened before the glitch but it has happened twice, so it’s probably something in my patterns. I’ll be on the lookout

well i am used to charge but it was my first in the arcade. the ryu usualy used the srk trap but i some imes jump empty and still gets me. he pushed me with hadokens in the corner and pressured me with lk.
is that sort of specific?

Moves are whiffed during customs in order to avoid neutral state (and, therefore, prevent the opponent from flipping).
For example, Akuma’s FP -> whiff fireball combo. Akuma does the FP and hits the opponent, then he cancels the FP into a fireball so that he doesn’t go into neutral state. He then cancels the whiff fireball into another FP and hits the opponent, yada yada yada.
Another example: Zangief’s FP -> whiff glove. In this case, the whiff glove prevents neutral state, and also moves Zangief forward so that his FP will hit.
The easiest way to demonstrate this is on the console. Pick gief, then set up the training so that it automatically air-recovers. Then activate VC and do a clothesline on the dummy. The dummy will be knocked into the air, the it will air recover. Now, do it again, except do a whiff move after the clothesline (like a sweep). You’ll notice that the dummy will not air-recover, even if Zangief’s foot is nowhere near them.
Don’t focus on charging. As for being pushed by fireballs, aside from stuffing them on start up with high priority normals like RH and -->+RH(same with forward kick or the backfist etc), just jump straight up to nullify the tactic. Jumping straight up over projectiles is a much overlooked skill nowadays but it’s strategically invaluable, imo.
As for pressuring you with short, Charlie’s Both of his RHs will major counter that shiet. Also the hopping forward kick is nice.
I must say I think you are confused about the term turtle. If he’s pressuring you, he’s not turtling. Turtling is a non-pressure+ reflex style. If he just sat there and countered your every move, then he would be turtling. If he’s controlling the match, setting the pace and pushing you, he’s the aggressor. That’s the opposite of turtling.

Charlie’s setup is simple in theory, but can sometimes be tricky in execution: opponent jumps, you VC.
Basically, any situation where you can an opponent with just about an anti air (any of Charlie’s numerous ones) is a situation you can VC him. Starting the VC is most popular with crouching JP, since most jump-ins can be hit with it. Throw a sonic boom. If your opponent jumps up and over on reaction (instead of anticipating it) then he’s screwed.
This is tricky in execution because you have to overcome the urge to simply block the jump in. Also, you have to be famliar with Charlie’s anti-airs (particularly distances).
One of my favorites is to walk up an close at my opponent, then VC through whatever attack the opponent tries. This works because so many people are use to see Charlie walk up, then stop at approximately crouching FK range. The most common automatic reaction to seeing Charlie walk in that close is to try to sweep him. VC through that shit.
Another way to to jump in, then VC through the anti air (doesn’t work well against akuma and Gen, though).

Just one question… that throw sonic boom and if they jump over it setup… after you throw the sonic boom, do you dash in? then if they jump you VC them?
If you have to dash in, your too far (and in this case you should consider jumping FP as counter then crouch cancel, but that’s another topic). Think of Charlie as WW Guile. If your opponent jumps in after the boom, crouching FP 'em. In Charlie case its VC 'em.

mondu_the_fat… I gotta admit Japanese threw one hell of a fun tournament. I had lots of fun and actually learn how to play Alpha 3 on my own. After the tourney, I played with the tourney champion until I lost all my money(Hey I beat his V-Sakura).
If I knew the game engine then as I do now… I could beat Toshin Taishi.
In the MAIN BATTLE tournament, I used Sagat which I regret now. I lost every battle I had. I should have used Ryu or Ken(Because I’m better in them). In the All Ryu tournament, Wilson beats me. I was lucky in the Random tournament :lol:. We sucked at Team Tournament(I now see why A-Dhalsim is a bitch).
Next time Recto Gouki(Japanese) won’t be so lucky… hehehehehe
