Alpha 3: Q & A

cheats? i whooped his ass! he played a-ken when i played him and just typical a-shoto bs. and we all know how good i am

Fei Long

I’m kind of new to these forums, and I’ve been searching for some descent Fei Long strats, but having no luck. Anyone got any advise besides c.FP?

hah, i played a guy who was busting out 2in1 supers like that. he says he’s on kb and it’s just skill. i was like, riiiight

no, i mean, he’s average, but he does stuff that i don’t see even good players do. like, he will low strong my sim drill hits or is blocked(at perfect angles), even with lag. maybe it’s auto fire or somethin’

Just browsed through Gamefaqs for Fei and they were crap. Picked up the James Chen faq though, it was good stuff. In it though he mentions another faq that sounds like a must read… I think it’s by Kao Megura? Anyone know of any links?

Even better, anyone know any Gen strats?

Kao’s FAQ is on the same page (scroll up).

Gen? i’m sure someone will post a long general reply so u might want to be more specific to avoid stuff u already know. i’ll just say ā€œstick with his PPP stance if you want to win.ā€

hmm i dont know a healthy style of gen is one that uses MOVEs from both styles, intercanging them, like using crane, j.hkX2 and his AA super…

yea, but afaik sticking with Mantis (PPP) will get you most of your mileage. Crane is cute but not solid enough to hang.

okay…
can anyone tell me how to do Sagat’s VC into infinite?
i had something like

[VC2]
c.SK xx RK.knee,
{FP xx knee (whiff) } repeat to corner,
{FP xx RK.shot (whiff) } repeat until meter at 40%,
RK.shot (resulting in two shots in a row),
deep JP.uppercut,
j.SP,
{ccj.SP} until death boredom or error

i was certain it’s the right one, but usually the opponent can flip.
is there a trick to the timing…?

opponent can flip that setup everytime. you are hitting a neutral state after you land from the dp. you gotta try wiffing an attack and making the shadow hit. that way, the opponent is getting hit by the shadow as you jump up with the j.strong and it becomes a true combo…

I am kind of disappointed, and feel like mentioning about something one last time:

If you want to read a faq about Gen, please go to:

If you know where I can post my faq, send me a PM.
Feel free to let me know what you think about it.

Thanks in advance.
Ok I shut up from now on about this topic.

yes4me:
shit… i didn’t know gamefaqs wasn’t accepting A3 stuff anymore. that’s hard man.

SaBrE:
hehe… i kinda knew that, but thanks. i was actually hoping to be spoonfed the exact steps  (i can hope can’t i)…

You can’t learn a game in training mode… you need to play regularly against good comp. Its sad that 90% of the new people who like A3 and want to learn it start off by asking either 1- what’s this character’s VC or 2- how do you do crouch cancelling ?

Most of the good players now spent the first 2-3 years of Alpha 3 playing A-ism or X-ism, and that’s when we learned the game (meaning the engine)… V-ism brought new life to the game, but we still needed the basics.

So unless your goal is simply to master the combos (which I can understand because of the high level of difficulty), I recommend to just play the game plain and simple to learn it. If you have good comp then great, unfortunately its really hard to find.

This is why in the end we see the same people entering tourneys year after year, the same players from 1998 but just less and less of them. This is why I kinda gave up writing long posts to help newbies… they just disappear after 2 weeks and you can’t blame them cause there’s practically nowhere they can find comp to play.

If you want to learn from me come play me casual in ECC8. I’ll be there all day.

yeah fools are starting a3 incorrectly. cc’s are like the last things you should be learning. and i wouldnt even mess with V until i had a decent grasp and feel for the engine. thats pretty much how all the good players started. you need to know a lot about the engine to even understand your opportunities to land a cc. it takes a long time to start to recognize every situation where you can land one. besides, these days, V isnt the end all, be all ism to use. its not as dominant these days. its still the best, no doubt. but over time, i learn that A can compete against it just fine. and i think a lot of players that have been playing a3 since day 1 will agree

I’m not saying you have to have been playing since day 1 to be good. For example, look at Nibor… he’s only been playing for a year or two but he’s one of the top EC players now (finished 2nd at NEC3). But he played regularly against good comp in his arcade and joined all the major tourneys. That’s why I’m happy for him cause he didn’t give up a game he liked even though he had to lose alot to get good. At this point you really have to love the game to keep playing cause the learning curve is so damn steep and tourneys so far between.

i’m pretty sure i know how to play the game, but the dial-a-combo business is just something i’m too lazy to take a crunch at. learning the game is definitely important but in matches between 2 ppl of equal skill level, the one with the 30% VC isn’t gonna beat the one with the 50% VC.

i’m sure i can see where Temujin’s coming from, i mean all the A3 threads have deteriorated into ā€œwhat’s this char’s VCā€ q&a sessions. ppl starting V-Gouki trying to learn the otg combo. but i still think it’s a valid question and one doesn’t have to be a n00b to ask it. it isn’t all about the VCs but doesn’t mean we can ignore them.

the problem stems down to lack of comp, and the fact that mvc2 made people think they can pick a game up in a few days.

Hey Temujin, what exactly is ECC8? I have to admit I think you’re right about the competition being hard to find if you don’t know where to look. I’ve only been playing SFA3 on the playstation and dreamcast, on and off for the last few years, and I return home to find my brother into Cvs2, and know that he’s actually better than a lot of people around here. He fares better than most against the people who play at local tourneys, and he’s got things like RC’s down flat. I’m somewhat new to 2D fighters so far as comp is concerned, but I got significantly better at Cvs2 just playing him all day long that people remark that my Rock is actually good.

But I’ve always favored the style of play on fighters like SFA3 and King of Fighters, if only for their storylines. That’s why I wondered if Fei Long was around, but my bro says I’d get little info on him as he’s not in the arcade version. So I figured Gen was the next best thing. Could pick top tiers, but I’m a sucker for characters that are actually cool in their own way, and I always fair to see past the sprite.

But to answer, I was hoping for some insight on a X-ism Gen. The faq by Yes4Me was actually quite informative… Unfortunately for me I have a hell of a time playing on a Dreamcast controller.

Thanks, glass and Hellion, for the comments. I just updated my faq, just to fix a few english problems.

Regarding ECC8, you can read about it here:
http://www.thebreak.net/ecc81.htm

If you plan to play on X-ism, I think Adon is the only one worth playing on this mode. Gen is not that good, because he loses a lot of extra ā€œfeaturesā€, like being able to cross over from a short range (in PPP style), or from a far distance (when he is in KKK style).

eh there are a few characters that do well in X. x-rolento, x-chun, x-ryu, x-ken, cant forget x-sim. and more. thats just a small list.

Thanks for letting me know that these characters are good X-ISM. In my area, nobody play X-ISM.
