All about Mexican Typhoon (SPD)

Seconded. I’ve found the only real use of hp.spd is if you know the damage will kill them. There’s no real reason or benefit to using it in any other case. Otherwise just use the mpxxTB or. If you want to use an SPD, lp leaves you in position for the weakass lp spire crossup which doesn’t fucking work at all against mashers, or the mp spd which leaves you close enough to attempt hail mary shenanigans with the dive off neutral or forward jumps.

anyone know where i can get the hitboxes for Thawk’s Mexiphoon?

http://shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=236225 <------ For all your T.Hawk hitboxes needs

I’ve been training myself never to go for fierce Typhoon unless I’m facing the corner or I’m sure it’ll kill them. It’s still tempting because it looks so freakin’ awesome, but jab is so good for set-ups, even though it does so little damage (even less than regular back throw).

I still need to work on my set-ups. I mostly just tick from st. jab, cr. jab, d/f jab, cr. short and st. fwd. Which works for a while until I get too predictable with it. I still need to mix it up a bit better.

I main Dhalsim so actually going after someone and pressing the advantage on the offense feels so alien to me. Need to work on that too.

You know what I love? Watching people flee in terror as Hawk closes in. To me, that’s just a thing of beauty.

What’s the purpose of the EX version if the startup on it is 2 frames more and the damage is the same as the MP version, even the stun is less…WTF, it seems useless, HP version is 2 frames faster, does more damage and recovers 1 frame slower? Going by Wiki data. Is the wiki missing invuln frames or something? Otherwise it seems like crap, even the range is less than MP.

Yeah, the wiki is missing the invulnerability frames on the EX. The first 3 frames are invulnerable; on the fourth frame it becomes active and it loses its invulnerability.

I could have sworn this move was called thunder hammer or something at some point.

Storm hammer, in HDR.

Wow… that makes absolutley no sense…

Wasn’t the move called Cyclone in SSF2 and ST?

Though I do remember my SNES SSF2 manual calling it Storm Hammer. The Tomahawk was called Thunderstrike, IIRC.

Almost 100% positive that Storm Hammer is the legit capcom given name of the 360. However people are retardesd and made up a dumb joke about him being mexican and just kinda made up mexican typhoon. It was some stupid argument that was goin over on the HDR forums too just for shits and curiosity but I think storm hammer is so much more bad ass. Although hearing english hawk call out mexican typhoon on an EX 360 is kinda cool. I miss the HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM from ST though

Also, against characters you cant safe jump (besides ken) i think the best thing to do is land FP typhoon and play footsies and run away. Especially blanka. Ken you can stuff his dp with a late splash most of the time but its tough. If you want you can bait blanka to use his meter by fake safe jumping him.

Thing thing about safe jump after landing lp.SPD is that you have to jump-towards immediately after recovery. Some characters, T.Hawk will land in front of and other characters he will land in back. I sometimes don’t know which way to block for his safe jump. Any body know what I’m talking about?

I believe you can take one tiny step forward and that will guarantee you the crossup. just hold forward after the lp typhoon and jump right when hawk moves.

This is right, if done correctly, Hawk is safe from all Reversals, except 3-Frame ones of course.

just to confirm what you’re saying… after lp.spd, i can move forward a little, cross-over safe jump, and nothing should be able to hit except for a 3-frame reversal?

What others stated, it also places you much closer to your opponent when you’re through with the move.

LP MT And HP MT seem to be the best options

LP for range and distance
HP For maximum power

sure HP leaves you far away but the damage it does is worth it
2 LP’s and 1 HP should do the job nicely

lp typhoon all the time unless a hp typhoon will kill them or they are a character with great wakeup options. once you start getting safe jumps and t.hawks combos down you’ll be doing much more damage and stun to characters than just using hp typhoon. Also, you can do a “safe dive” after the hp typhoon and end up right next to them and recover before they can reversal you (good for baiting). when i started playing hawk i always went for the damage of the hp typhoon but then i spent some time in training mode and figured out a bunch of combos and when you see the damage and the stun, keeping in mind you WANT to be right next to your opponent, you’ll be transitioning to lp typhoon too.

Best situations for EX-SPD

Hey,

So the EX-SPD is invincible for the 4F start-up time but not invincible to throws.

What is the best situations for this?

Expecting a meatie attack on wake-up?

What should you do once your opponent catches on to the cross-up, random poke~SPD?
I mean, once they realize the only way to escape is to jump backwards, what are your options? Can you forgo the SPD and jump after them and smack them with a normal in the air? Can you do a condor spire and they will land on it on the way down? Can you crouch HP while they jump away? Will that hit them?
