Aliens vs Predator (PS3, 360, PC) - Get hype. Get to da choppaaaa!

The demo out is tomorrow !

I’ll be playing on the 360, feel free to msg me for some online goodness peoples.

I downloaded the demo for steam and whenever I try to play a quick match for death match, it never seems to find a game. What should I do to fix the issue?

Ahhh shit! Downloading for Steam now!

wtf is this shit? matchmaking? and to make it worse, shits broken right now. Cant even find a game. Rebellion just dropped the ball on this demo. The game better be dam good.

Its good to know someone has the same problem as I do. Hopefully by tomorrow they get it fixed.

Judging from the demo, its not as good as the original. Predators only starts out with the claw and you have to walk around the map pick to pick up their equipment. To use the dam weapons you gotta hold down the corresponding button and press mouse 3. wtf is that? Not really liking these instant-kills, makes aliens very OP. Pretty much just run up to a person, hold E and gg. Controls are very clunky too. You can tell this game was made just for consoles. I think imma go play the original to get rid of the bad taste.

This is my impression for the first couple of rounds.

Great…Sounds like they are fucking up  Fuck it, I’ll probably still get that face hugger lol.

Game is good as hell. I haven’t played a game this good in years. The matchmaking is buggy though, but when you get in a game and start playing it you’ll see.

it was basically everything i was hoping for and more

Matchmaking is not working for me at all and the lack of server support prevents me from even walking around the map in-game.

It’s just a demo. No biggie.

Got one good game in (that I won BTW) after “searching for games…” for about 12 minutes.

The matchmaking interface is horrendous. If this is the final version on the PC side, it’s a consolize piece of shit. Can only mute people through Steam, no ping indicator, yada yada yada.

The game itself seems and runs fine . I only got to play as the Alien. It takes a while for instant kills to register so you’d have to be pretty bad to die from them repeatedly. Navigation was confusing at first, but after about 3 minutes, I at least learned how to traverse the walls with some fluidity. Mouse 1 attack seems weak as hell, mouse 2 seems decent but it doesn’t seem to compete with the predator or human.

From my first impression, the Alien is definitely NOT OP’ed.

Played some multiplayer. Disappointing. I’m not sure if it was poor netcode or lag (it is still the demo), but it seemed like it was impossible to properly retaliate once you get attacked since you’re seemingly frozen in hit stun forever. I’m really not digging this auto aim bullshit they put into the game when you attack. Like Shadowcruz mentioned, it feels like the game is made to be played on consoles, rather than PC. It just feels very clunky and unnatural when you attack and you auto lock on and then attack. It feels like it’d work better if you actually got to aim yourself, rather than have the game do it for you. Where is the skill and fun in that? Combat feels like there’s no real strategy if you’re a Pred or Alien. Mash attacks. Other guy locked in hit stun forever, keep mashing until they die, you win. Also, Alien mobility severely nerfed due to the removal of leap. WTF?! WHY?! Aliens feel slow as shit now.

Final thoughts: not sure if want.

I’m sure the single player campaign is going to be pretty awesome, but multiplayer feels very clunky and overall disappointing.

The Xbox 360 demo is out!

Edit: You need to be Gold Subscriber and you can queue up the game for download from the site. The demo is 780mb.

!? Oh fuck! I am on that shit with the quickness.

Oh goddamnit its not letting me download it off the website -_- Im assuming its IE only? Because that would be fucking stupid.

Where?

First, you need to be Gold Xbox Live Subscriber.

Once you’re logged into that site, click on the button that says “Download to Xbox 360”. This will queue up the game for download on your Xbox 360. As soon as you turn it on, it should start downloading. If you already have it on while you queue it up, it will start downloading immediately.

The demo File Size is 780 MB.

Its not doing it for me :frowning: Do I have to have my xbox set up for the media center thing?

Got it! Fuck internet explorer :frowning:

Consolized menus are shit. Whoever thought it was a good idea to have p2p matchmaking, good job.

At least the full game has dedicated servers.

Marines own.

Interface was less than stellar. It’s not bad, but you will appreciate other game’s lobbies and menu interface after messing through this. Hell, I played as an Alien first by mistakenly picking it.

The Alien’s ability to cling to all surfaces is really disorienting. Another feature to get used to, that I haven’t read about, was a jumping move to walls by looking at the surface. Combine this first-person wall crawling with the Alien 3 signature fish lens effect and I felt queasy playing a 1st person game for the first time in a long time. If it doesn’t get to you you’re tougher than me. But after a while I got used to it, and it was cool stalking other players from the walls. However, instincts have me running along the floor anyway. There’s a bit of automatic clinging that I don’t fully understand where you will cling to a wall or climb a ledge that as thrown me off at times. The arrow showing you the floor helps a bit. Most of the games I played had Alien players dominating, and we’ll talk about that in a bit.

The Predator is fucking cool to use in theory, but there’s some function issues that you need to know. You do not start the match with Pred’s signature weapons. You have your wrist blades for melee, vision sights, super leap, and cloak. The shoulder cannon, staff, blade disk, and proxy mine(!) must be gathered throughout the map. Perhaps it’s a balancing issue, but it kinda kills the effect of being Predator to me. Once you get stocked, Pred’s still pretty cool, but the map clearly favors Alien and Marine classes. The super leap means nothing in this demo’s map, and you’re left running around in the corridors that the Marines fills with bullets and Aliens swarm like roaches. You do, however, feel powerful locking on the signature triangular sight on some prey and scoring some execution kills.

This two beasts have the much promoted execution kills and they feel good landing them. They’re well balanced, no different if not less effective than Halo’s Assassin kill or CoD and BC’s instant melee kill. With this game you have a cool animation (even from the receiving end, getting executed by the Alien is awesome), but the game goes on. You can receive damage during this time, or even have some sarcastic gamer pull one off on you right after. You will learn to pick and choose when to do it.

And now the Marine. People… play as the fucking Marine. He’s way more capable than you think, and it’s an awesome experience. It’s legit scary walking the hallways with creatures running about, low light, your motion sensor blipping. The tension from Aliens where they first search the colony is recreated well. Once you pick up something you look about, but there’s a sort of panic when you lose the signal. The motion sensor is just that and yes players are stalking you with that in mind. It doesn’t a lot of shots to put any of the other players down, but your ass is grass up close (unless you find that shotty).

If you wanna be a menace, be Alien. You want to feel superior, Predator. For atmosphere, go with Marine.

Now for general analysis… This game is detailed but not too sharp. It just seems ‘late last gen’ in the graphics department. The melee attacks seem to track similar (but not as jarring) to CoD’s Commando lunge. I felt it was pretty unnecessary and it screwed me over a few times. There’s actually a hit-stun effect on hit, and I have mixed feelings about seeing this in an FPS. Still, I’d say this is a pretty fucking developed melee system compared to other FPS games. Weak and strong attacks along with blocking ability almost makes a meta-game out of close combat (one the Marine draws the short straw in). Kind odd playing this sort of game with no crouch ability. Sure it would be needed in this sort of concept game but it still feels weird.

The Alien is a fucking beast and the class has been winning game after game. He’s tough on the Marine and Predator because you can barely get a view on the speedy fucks. Good players using there wall crawling will frustrate you into a paranoid mess. Pray you see them coming first with their low HP, but other than that you’re fucked in most encounters. I don’t know if this is a sign of unbalance, I’m not too skilled yet.

You only have FFA deathmatch to play in the demo but I think team DM would have served the concept better, so I’m eagerly awaiting the full game. So love walking around as a Marine and suddenly turned around to see an Alien about to off you. Awesome.
