You can also go into your f.hp if you just want to go for a max damage grounded combo. It works wonders against characters like Karin, Balrog, Bison etc. Characters who you can delay your jump against ever so slightly and have them miss their active frames of their AA attack. Unless the f.hp start-up nerf made that impossible in S2.
It’s a very under-appreciated move in all honesty for how bad it can fuck up some peoples AAs.
Yeah I tried it and I don’t think you can do Lariat anymore. It’s what I first tested for myself when I was wondering what it would lead to. Then again I did it on Gief.
Speaking of Gief. Wanna get them too scared to St.HP during midgame? V-Skill. They will be way to scared of St.HK whiff punish to do it. Wait for the jump in and try to poke well.
Took most of this advice to theory and tried it in real matches online. Gotta say, it was all very solid information guys. Refreshed myself with Urien’s frame data and went mostly positive today against him. Think I lost about 1 game and beat about 6 different Urien players. Sort of feel like they didn’t understand the Alex MU that much… But whatever I’ll take what I can get. Still pretty damn hard, although had a lot of success with every AA on reaction / playing defensively. Once I felt I was in their head, definitely capitalized on that.
However my point still stands… A MU shouldn’t feel THIS hard IMO. Thanks again. I’ll try that stuff on Zangief if I run into him!
Haha, better than me, I still lose to Urien a lot more than I win!
Building on the Gief matchup, don’t go for Elbow or St.HK randomly unless you have V-Trigger. They get a free flex into SPD. The exception to this is when you have V-Trigger. Cancel St.HK into Hyper Bomb for some unscaled damage.
Don’t jump on Gief unless you want to chance the Condor Dive. Lariat gives them so much setup time.

I’ve never thought about this at all, you’re completely right. That’s a really solid piece of advice thanks for that.
If you know they like to armor you can go for Elbow xx CA on their armor. Always funny.
Does that break the armor? I would be afraid that they could flex the Elbow + First CA Hit with the initial hold and absorb the last two hits with the walk forward.
Can’t armor CA’s only parry. Gief’s V-skill is an armor not a parry.

Can’t he like, cancel into EX running bear to grab you out of it?
It’s not instant recovery, not cancellable and even if it was cancellable does the ex bear grab have invincibility? No it has armor and 15 frame startup. See “CA’s can’t be armored against”.
Things that were not mentioned in the original changelist:
That explains the “Illegal Backdrop”, I guess
Also:
So our backdrop trick…was a deliberate design choice?
I think we can all agree that Alex takes a lot of skill to do well with but I never imagined they’d expect us to take advantage of a super small window cancel.
Yeah that is insane, who can consistently take advantage of it? lol
Hopefully us after some long training sessions. If that’s here to stay I’m all for it. I want people to be scared of a blocked Hp.Chop; that’s just more power to us.
If people can consistently do one frame links in SF4 (Chris G supposedly does it without even plinking), it should be possible…
does anyone have a link to donpachi’s nicovideo? i have no idea how to use that site
Yeah people didn’t play CVS2 back in the day. You had to do all your one frames in real time, raw. You either hit that exact 1 frame or you went home.
There were some specific one frame combos on crouching characters in 3S and 1 frame juggles like Necro’s corner db+HP elbow. Which was essentially doing 6 1 frames in a row with a heavy button.
Welp possible patch changes means new hope for Alex. Which honestly his hope has to come from everyone else getting nerfed into the ground with how doom and gloom it is here.

I’m not getting my hopes up. I’m just gonna keep labbing him as he his, and if he gets better tools, great.
Alex doesn’t even need radical, pie-in-the-sky changes.
So even minor positive tweaks would be welcomed. A couple of hit boxes fixed, getting back to having one of his long range mediums be a strong tool again… throw in maybe a 3 frame light and this is back to being a solidly competitive character.
