Yeah, that helps a lot against fireball throwers. And I actually play my Alex with the chop as a “kind of fireball” in a sense that if you’re close enough, that’s exactly what happens: you catch the fireball and hit them in the process.
But with Guile, especifically, the point is that outside his command normals (which are great) he only actually has two moves: sonic boom and somersault. If he is turtling, with good timing and some reads you either dodge the booms and headbutt/stomp him; or you block the somersault and make them pay bitterly. They have to be good to come fighting on with command normals, and then it’s neutral control time (Alex has longer range and Guile is faster, so it’s even). It’s actually a pretty good match up for me as Alex so far.
Sad note of the day is: I only fought bad matchups online tonight. Fang (four times!!), Mika (twice) and Dictator (twice). Heck! Lots of points lost, and only some recovered against one diamond Nash (which helped A LOT) and one ultra platinum Urien (which helped a lot too and made me a little bit less on the loss lol). I really have to get better on those negative matchups.
Interesting, I don’t really feel like I struggle against Dictator. Feels like a even match up to me. I think Fang use to be a lot harder in s1, but with the changes to ex stomp it feels a lot easier. I think ex stomp can be devastating against projectile users. I’ve used it a lot on Guile, its just great to be able to stomp through his vskill boom. To me the change to stomp is one of S2 Alex high points.
I actually have a hard time against Nash, it doesn’t feel impossible I just feel like I have some blind spots regarding the MU. If you could share some of your experiences with the MU I’d appreciate it.
I wish I was playing Guiles that sit in range of anything you do and not alter the boom timing to hit your recovery…
I don’t know anything anymore. Just came from a losing spree online that made me lose almost 1000 lp. Never saw anything like that. Seems like everybody got a better game on the opponent’s wake up and Alex only has - maybe - a wakeup headbutt that dodges throws but is not even airborne from frame 1 and gets hit by lows.
Sorry bout the bumb question, but what is MU? Is it that trick when he throws a boom and teleports behind you? If yes, I just block to the opposite side.
But like I said, i don’t kniw anything anymore. Think I’ll try to play Akuma or someone with an invincible reversal.
MU = Match Up
Anyway, I don’t mind having to eat pressure on wake up. Been blocking for years.
I do mind, however, not having an AA that beats cross-ups. :-/

And 1f is not making LP Chop useful in midrange fireball wars, especially not against Guile. You can nullify sure, but on reaction it’s not happening and if you’re far enough away to react you’re eating a spinning backknuckle.

Thanks for the answers, guys.
Now I know what a MU is haha
Anger aside, against Nash what I always wath out for are the dash ins. I notice that against him the crlp, smp sequence is especially useful, and leads to many counterattacks (and you can follow that up with l elbow or l chop). When he stops dashing in, it’s stomp time. He’ll try to surprise you with the m leg, gotta block or space it correctly for a stomp. But the best thing is - again - to ex stomp his sonic booms. Especially now in season 2, his animation is VERY SLOW, so you can react with plenty of time. Once in, neutral jump with meaty jhk or jhp and follow up with combo of choice. He’ll start jumping backwards and throwing booms, just wait for the right time and SMASH! lol.
That’s how I have it pictured in my head, at least, and I usually don’t have many problems against Nash.
Same thing with Guile, but his booms are faster. But if you give him no time to react with a somersault (aka use ex stomp), plus read ibe or two of his wake up ex somersaults, and it’s game over.
Can I ask you the same about your experience with the Dictator matchup?
I hate his throws lol
These recovery nerfs on elbows are literally killing me
Gonna take a while to get used to not being able to use it even at formerly safe distances

Aye, an Alex player I keep meeting online lives and dies by the things. Idk why they took a nerf, they’re really sucky now.
You can still just the tip anti air neutral jumps with them but they get you blown up like 90% of the time now
Block a ton and wait for him to make a mistake. His slide and lk scissor kicks are punishable. Try to score a knockdown to gain momentum, Dictators wake up game isn’t that great. Most of the time when they are feeling the heat they will vreversal. I think he is the only character I see use vreversal very very often. If you can bait him into trying to vreversal you can grab him with a power bomb or head crush. Having your vtrigger up also changes the fight greatly because its no longer safe for dictator to press buttons. I think overall the MU is about having patience and waiting to get your turn and make the most of it. Since you may not get that many.
Hey, CrayRaven, that was a nice match back there! You got me surprised there sometimes
You got a great alex man, good fight!
I’m testing the viability of a l chop approach to a fight haha. Not too useful all the time, but still good
Better against projectile users I think, just to make them think twice about using projectiles at mid range. Against non projectile users I throw it out from time to time to surprise them.
But really, this l chop buff really scares some people. I just beat the number 95 with an Akuma with this l chop approach hehe
If you see it now you’ll see my trouble with dictator…
