Akuma FAQs: Quick questions & answers!

I played a player earlier who would reversal my tick throw attempts, but I simply block and punished for really good damage. I’ll take heed of your advice to cancel standing fierce into hadouken first, but doesn’t that kinda remove the entire point of hit confirming in the first place?

You got a point there.

But if that’s just reaction that we’re talking about, isn’t it just a matter of practice and experience? I mean, if you cannot (I can’t honestly, lol) react fast enough to do cr.LP, st.HP xx Tatsu (which I think, should only be used over st.HP xx Hado FADC when 1) You can finish the round with it; or 2) You simply don’t have the meter) but still want to win the game, just go for your tick throw setups, or try the fireball variation.

I know I could win more games if I kept a rather “safe” (meaning, I only use what I mastered) approach, but when you have to step up your game, you’ve got to start experimenting at some point…

I can pull the hit confirm off, it’s just that I lack the reactions to tell if the first two hits have been blocked or not, so I’m usually already commited to doing the cl.fierce which of course disables my tick throw options if blocked.

I geuss i’ll just avoid using it for now until I have lightning fast reactions lol.

If you’re referring to sticking something out to stuff one of their attacks, it depends entirely on what you are trying to stuff.

what should i do after i knock the opponent down? i usually just teleport backwards, often putting myself in the corner. Also, wtf is the timing for raging demon through fireballs? i get hit out every single time, its so frustrating. Finally, what can i do to prevent getting stunned so fast? Thnx in advance. Akumy bear 4life.

  1. Go look at the Vortex Thread

  2. Why are you trying to Demon through fireballs?

  3. Don’t get hit so much. If you get rocked by a big combo, teleport out and stay safe for a bit.

You just don’t.

The only way for Akuma to pass through fireballs is to make use of the 5f invincibility window, which sucks.

I think the best scenario for this is when someone decides it’s cool to chip you to death with a fireball after a knockdown, but he’s that smart to do it from up close (if they do it fullscreen, your Demon won’t catch them in time). You just wake up and Ultra him, avoiding the Reversal if the fireball will hit you deep.

Did this once to a scrubby Ryu on XBL, so much fun.

Get better reactions then…i had your same problem, now i can confirm with c.lp s.hp without any issues. Practice is the key

I think the reason i’m commited to it is because I need to focus to pull it off because it’s not 100% natural yet. And if i’m focusing 100% on that I can’t really think about what other options I might need if it fails. I guess i’ll keep practicing until I hopefully get the hang of it.

You can’t do a raging demon through fireballs, I’ve only ever managed it with the wrath of the raging demon in extremely specific situations, such as waking up in the middle of an opponents fireball and using the split second invincibility to ignore it and hit my opponent. However situations like this are extremely rare.

Also when you knock opponents down, you want to keep your opponent pressured, if you’re running away everytime you knock them down then you’re essentially crippling Akumas pottential massively. There’s so many options on your opponents wake up, that it would take ages to describe them here, so I suggest you go to the Vortex thread as Clx suggested.

did anyone else have the problem I’m having with inputs like cr.lp+cr.hk? It basically strains my hand to use my index finger and ring finger, but pressing lk+hp for demon doesn’t because the hand is at a different angle.

I guess I’m just using muscles in my hand that I normally wouldn’t otherwise and just need to keep going with it, but I wanted to hear other people’s take on this.

@BulimicCannibal: Generally the cr.lp clst.hp hit confirm only works off of a dive kick, because the dice kick has that extra bit of hit stun. I just practiced it like I practiced any other hit confirm and sooner or later it just sticks. Also from what you’re saying you seem to be confirming by the time you’ve already pressed clst.hp, you have to confirm right after you’ve pressed cr.lp but before you press clst.hp to be able to properly mix things up (introduce tick throws, counter hit fishing etc.)

Which actually brings me along nicely to another question: What are the best options off of a counter hit close standing hard punch?

Hmm, j/w is it possible to bait & beat crouch tech with frame traps or something? I’ve been trying c.lp > c.mp or a c.lp > delayed c.lp but i end up getting grabbed, might be cause of lag, ex tatsu works well, but im wondering about a meterless option.

You can use that hitconfirm with anything if you just have the reactions and are in range to get close fierce, it’s just easier with DF dive kick because of the hitstun and the fact that you know they’ll be standing for the combo, many people do it with the command d+mk dive kick which gives very minimal hitstun.

I don’t think you have any real options after a CH close fierce because that thing is negative on block and on hit, so you have it cancel it anyway, even the CH close fierce hit stun doesn’t combo into Shakunetsu’s 25 frame startup IIRC. If you’re setting up the close fierce in a way to get the CH, I think canceling it into EX fireball would be good since it gives a good knockdown & great stun.

That’s pretty much the whole point of frame traps, to beat crouch techs for the most part, you have to experiment different timings & frame traps to beat opponents crouch techs because some people mash it, some do it early, others late or depending on your rhythm…etc. Check the frame traps thread and try some of the strings mentioned there.

I use my Index for LP and my Pinky for HK, gives me more reach. I also use the “American” button configuration (straight line) rather than the “Japanese” button config (arced). The problem is “Muscle memory” as I’m not used to buffering LPs into sweeps at all, so it’s still awkward to do for me.

I use the Index + Ring fingers for cr.MK + cr.LP demon buffer and, yes, I did find it problematic at first, but I’ve practiced it for a while now and I was able to land it in a match the other day (and tried it a few other times but failed on the timing).

There aren’t any best options. You combo off st.HP with cancels and counter hit for this (AFAIK) doesn’t do anything extra that normal hit doesn’t. If you counter with cr.HP and cancel to Shaku though, that will combo and give you a meterless knockdown (without the need to hit confirm) which is something st.HP can’t give you.

Thanks for the answers, all.

I did test that frame trap out when it was first mentioned in the other thread and had some success with it, I’m gonna have to focus on committing that to my gameplay.

Are you using american style on a viewlix layout stick? If so, you could try mapping the far left buttons to 3p and 3p, then use those to buffer the demon.

There’s a video of Mainstreet Ryu playing SSF4, using Akuma. I dunno how familiar people here may be with him; he’s one of the best Tekken (best Kazuya) players on earth. Not sure how much energy he would be putting into the game, if it would only be kinda casual or if he’s merging into the scene for a bit; but his level is already relatively high:

If comments were to be believed, it would seem he’s being taught by Tokido.

Yeah it’s true. Tokido posted it on his blog, and that’s Tokido’s youtube channel with him making AHHHHH noises.

No, it’s a MadCatz TE Round 2 stick, modded with Sanwa JLP joystick and sanwa 2 tone buttons. Basically, buttons Y, LB and RB are my LP, MP and HP inputs, while buttons B, LT, RT are my LK, MK and HK inputs. I have no functions on buttons A and X (first column). I’m old school so I don’t like using “shortcuts” like 3P/3K or Throw (LP + LK).

I was thinking of modding the joystick so as to hide those two buttons since I don’t use them, but I can’t seem to find any place here in Montreal, QC where I could find the stuff I need. I checked around a few places for laminated labels to change the artwork on it for example, but no one seems to know of any place that does that… Oh well!

You goody two shoes :stuck_out_tongue:

When is it a good time to start up a demon flip into dive kick? I just started playing Akuma about a week ago and noticed alot of online players tend to try and meet me in the air 80% of the time.

PS. Sorry if I posted in the wrong section. I dont know if this should be the the newbie dojo section or not. Figured if its about a specific character better post here.
