What would be Akuma’s better pokes in his arsenal.
I’m starting to play him in the arcades and losing quite a bit now - lol.
So far I’ve been using only s.hk and c.mk. Had some success with s.mk today - beating out far low poke attempts.
Is there anything I’m missing? It feels like I’m not using enough pokes in my play to play him effectively - but then again I come from playing Guile and Rog whose games require solid use of normals…
I know winning with Akuma will take time, but man I’m not used to getting stomped!
^ex tatsu is your friend against rog… beats all his dash punches and beats non-ex-headbutts on wake-up. against rog don’t get in poke range…he’s just plain better.
You mean resetting the damage scale? Yes, but it’s high risk/ high reward. If Akuma sees one coming, I’m sure in most cases he can just SRK or Teleport out - Shotos generally can SRK out of alot of shenanigans, but can get baited…
Some examples of times to look out for resets from my experience:
Sakura: juggle after her EX Tatsu > another combo
Balrog: Dash Swing Blow during an EX loop > another combo
Gouken: juggle after his back throw xx Demon Flip
Abel: juggle after his c.hp > Tornado Throw
Akuma: juggle after lk.Tatsu xx Demon Flip
There’s probably more that I haven’t encountered yet though.
Don’t know if this was asked before, but i couldn’t find anything.
I faced a Sagat and end of the last round i was about 2/3 of my health, making my most stupid mistake and firing a red Shaku @ him (beeing @ low health) for wakeup. He mashes out Ultra and hits me with the first part of the combo (TigerKnees) while I was in recovery of the shaku. But in the middle of his Ultra, right before the first Uppercut of his UltraCombo came out, I managed to mash out an EX SRK (never mashed an SRK motion while Ultra before, don’t know why i did that…) that interrupted and beat his UltraCombo. Never seen that before and my opponent must have been pretty angry and surprised @ the same time. I straightly went to practicemode and tried to repeat that, but I didn’t get it anymore…
Any clue on that?
Does it only work when being countered? Certain kind of pushback? Maybe a certain range? Or timing? Or has this only been possible maybe because of online lag?
Monmi, Fatal Error XI and DevilKnight, thanks for your tips and suggestions regarding wakeup pressure in response to my post on page 3 (yes, I’m slow, lol). They were very helpful.
I can’t believe I never thought of trying empty jump-ins.
I’ve moved on from the bnb and am working on resets now.
For some reason I cannot get this executed, any advice as to why?
any bnb starter to cr.lk tatsu, cr. lp cancel into demon flip.
A) all i get is the cr.lp
B) it turns into a full bnb with lp shoryuken combo ender
C) the cr.lp cancels into fireball
…am i just pressing the lk to fast?
i can easily get cr.lp, demon flip by itself… but putting it in as a reset to the bnb is tough.
It may be because the dp motion and demon flip motion are the same… so I am doing the motion too early and its just registering my cr.lp as a dp and omitting the kick?
wow so i played champion chip mode for the first time. It’s like all you can play all day Ken and Ryu fest. Shoyruken shoyruken shoryuken. Haduken haduken. Lol i can’t win i got this guy down to below life and i he just started pulling wtf combos out of his ass. It was like some youtube shit Shoyruken , fadc ultra I was like seriously…
I am starting to even question do I even know how to play this guy. I mean I am trying to keep people away with Fireballs and air fireballs and running with that wavedash akuma has and i’m even throwing in some supers off mistakes . I don’t have any like certified combos tho :(. A part of me feels like i should stop playing and just practice combos all day long then just try to spam them on people. Especially Ken’s sometimes it’s hard to block when he just keeps linking things together and runnign away.
My best friend so far is throwing people after blocked uppercuts. I haven not even been past my first champion chip match i always get rounds of people even sometimes perfects but they just somehow dodge victory one guy just quit. Another problem I feel i’m having is because people block so well i don’t know if I should try combos because I don’t know if the hit is going to land. But if it lands and then I don’t try the combo it’s like lost damage.
You should probably be questioning do you know the fundamentals at all, I’m not sure it’s your problem with Akuma that is causing you to lose to G3 scrubs. Obviously Akuma has low stamina, you might want to work on solid defense before offense.
Throwing people after blocked/whiffed shoryukens is missing out on serious damage. Learn the standard BNB combo: standing fierce -> LK Tatsu, HP Shoryuken. You can substitute the fierce for a crouching medium kick if you need more range.
I was trying to crossup with lk.tatsu, doh! Thanks.
I didn’t know but Akuma’s cr.forward goes under Ryu’s fireballs. Is this something you can get good at or just really lucky? Does this work for Ken and Ryu also? I searched for this but didn’t find the answer so if you find it feel free to bitch but you better link me!
To Miyagi - When he ultra’ed, you were still in the recovery frame of your fireball, which is why it was able to hit you. However, you were probably just in the sweet spot so that the knee hit you, the next knee whiffed, and you were able to recover before the uppercut.
ok lol i must not be doing it fast enough because it does it seperated but i’ll practice it. Next thing is when i try to do the firece kick some times a axe kick comes out instead?
i can do the tastsu now semi consistant to uppercut but can’t conenct the firece kick how do i buffer this ? playing a a joystick, ( still really new to it)
i guess my huge problem is connecting the m kick or the high kick to the low tatsu i can connect the tastsu to the uppurcut.
Fierce is another name for HP, the entire notation is as follows:
Jab = LP, Strong = MP, Fierce = HP
Short = LK, Forward = MK, Roundhouse = HK,
I was saying you do a close HP as soon as they land, then cancel right into LK Hurricane Kick, and juggle with an HP Shoryuken. That’s his bread n’ butter.
Thanks for the answer. Your right. Meanwhile I managed to get this happen again.
If Sagat throws his ultra out while i’m in recovery of my red hado, not all hits of his ultra hit and so there is a small gap in between the Tigerknee and the TU motion. Very funny if he thinks the round is over (in his favour) and then comes the counter SRK (FADC redhado).
