Akuma FAQs: Quick questions & answers!

Ok question: When you are crouch teching during a blockstring, how exactly do you time it? I find that sometimes that during a blockstring i will be hitting grab while crouching and as a result cr.lk will come out in the middle and get counterhit. For example if ryu did c.lp c.lp c.mk xx hado, the cr.lk would come out after the 2 cr.lps and get counterhit by the c.mk and i would eat that and the fireball

Actually now that I’ve played around a bit in training mode, I seem to remember that you’re supposed to take a step back just after the backthrow. Now that I’m doing that, it seems like I am able to catch a Ryu that simply walks towards me.

A backdash should still make the divekick/throw/palm whiff, but maybe not a slide kick. In any event, thats good… but it seems like its really hard to get the timing down on the backwards movement into divekick- the instructional video I now vaguely recall seeing a long time ago used the term “step” to describe the backward motion you’re supposed to take after a backthrow, but its not even that- its an imperceptible motion taking place over a fraction of a second.

Anyone have any tips on doing the input for this?

And I just watched some more tokido videos, and it DOES happen to him.

This makes me very, very sad inside.

Very, VERY sad.

Doesn’t this mean that they can listen for the distinctive demon flip sound and simply hold forward most of the time? It seems like the regular jump into hk OR hk tatsu mixup might be better…

he did flip kick and actually HE shoulda gotten thrown and got away with a tech instead.

there’s an answer to every trick and gimmick in this game.

anyone know why the top lvl Gouki players randomly throw st.short out? usually from a good distance away too, just wondering.

i got a problem…interestingly happens mostly against abel/dictator player whom love to

backdash into roll,ex wheel kick or whatever.

i did c.mp,c.mp and they backdashed it and in turn attacked me.

i did sjos grab to expect roll but they backdash and in turn use ex cod on me.

i did c.lp,c,lp+c,hk but its a proper block string and they block it.

i got a problem with their backdash.

its like if i did sjos to go against roll they will backdash
and if i did sjos to go against backdash they will roll

feels like a random guess.

anyone have an idea what i’m talking about?

dictator will do similar but backdash c.mk or whatever then scissor kick.

need abit of help here. one of the issue is that i did c.lp,clp+chk at wrong time perhaps. but someone enlighten me please

Do far.short > they happen to jump during it > buffer demon in far.short so you don’t jab them on their way down. Far.short is also a very specific AA. Only used in certain situations against certain attacks and at specific angles. Also can buffer dp to better time it and get use of the invincibility frames

^ Wasn’t it to fake hadoukens? Especially in tourneys where the other person can hear you manipulate the joystick and then hit a button…

Thought they usually do cr.mp for that

nah, it makes sense what he said, just like a lot of top level sagat players will do cr.short for the same reason, well for the TU at least.

Stand short is a fireball fake. Has been since SF2.

OS a demon. This catches both rolls and back-dashes.

However, I’m wondering if you could OS a c.hk (to catch the backdash much like against Chun) and if THIS OS misses (i.e. Abel rolls) you could perhaps cancel on reaction into a demon? There’s a lot going on there but if you use the c.hk as your primary OS option, keeping in mind that if this whiffs you can cancel it into demon. Maybe its a bit too much to do, but I’m curious if this would work.

I tend to OS Bison with hk tatsu. This will catch the tail end of his back dash and also his teleport.

but… you can punish his teleport with sweep…

thanks for os demon beating both roll and backdash.

my opponent backdash on my blockstrings.

i will try os sweep and buffer demon after see how it goes against rolls

eg.

my favourite move c.lp*2 karagrab and they dash out of it. weird. feels like they are mashing backdash.

and c.mp,c.mp they dash out of it.

these wreck my momentum.

whose teleport with sweep?

what do you mean here?

whose teleport and whose sweep we talking about?

nothing

i am referring to bisons tele, after a safejump DF palm, walk up and sweep at tip range with akuma… i mean, this is what ive done since the dawn of vanilla and it’s been pretty damn reliable so far…

It is almost impossible to mix up a Bison. He just has too many options to get out even if you’re using option selects.

Basically there are 3 options you can do after an untechable knockdown, and it’s pretty much a guessing game.

  1. OS EX DP - Beats ex psycho crusher, ex scissor kick, ex devil’s reverse, backdash?
Pretty risky if done outside of the corner since it can be punished by teleports.
  2. OS HK Tatsu - Beats back dash, backwards teleport
But this option is also very risky. Bison can use forward teleport behind you and then use U2.
  3. Do nothing - Beats forward teleport
    Use when baiting forward teleport.

Playing against Bison is a huge guessing game that’s just not in your favor. If Bison has meter and ultra, your options become very limited. Of course, most Bisons aren’t at a level where they know and utilize all their options. I play with Big Marcus (top 32 evo) and honestly, I feel like I have no options when trying to mix him up.

have you tried option select light/medium/heavy tatsu. they all have different purpose IMO.

Stupid/obvious question, but how do you fake a fireball? Is it just doing the motion?
