i get a THROW then standing hk => hard DF PALM and go for a sweep. but my opp gets a throw on me… this happens a fair bit in my vortex in different scenario.
also im trying mid screen cMK => FB FADC now here sould i use cMP/close HP/cHP into light tats blah blah…
and (kinda newb-ish question) but there there a vid (or anything) on focus attacks in defensive/offensive/footsies scenarios that help me get a crumple or just use it better?
After Palm there is 4 frames of recovery or enough time to get a throw in before a move can come out. If you know someone has a throw reflex though you can blow it up with a late dive kick.
Any jump ins non meaty will open you up to wakeup throws,. That’s the purpose of meaty attack, to beat vulnerable moves. The setup you’re using is supposed to land the palm meaty or later but not earlier (whiff). And the OS sweep is supposed to come out only if opponent escape the meaty (dash). Character specific. Adjust your numbers
Good button but doesn’t have very much range, which I thought was sought by asking for the best pokes. But definitely, I spam cr.mp more than is probably wise…
The “best poke” is heavily dependent on the match up because no one poke is good in all of them. Some match ups sweep gets crapped on or is massively unsafe, some match ups s.HK is insanely good, some match ups s.HK is trash, etc.
Don’t get comfortable using only one button because you need to be able to use all 3.
Same way you do Ryu’s. Walk in, poke, poke, poke, oh there’s a spot for a sweep or a throw! Then do it and it’s mixup time. Or you zone with the intent to frustrate - Akuma’s zoning is good but low damage (60 ground fb, 40 air fb/light air normal), so you either have to have great patience and precision to win with it or use it to force the opponent to do some sort of mistake you can capitalize on.
And don’t forget TK’d EX Air fb. Very reliable way to get free pressure. Buffer it after a c.mp or c.mk to increase the chance of stuffing any button they press. Non ex zanku’s can be made safe and leave you at +frames as well, but that’s timing and spacing dependant and each range requires a different strength of the fireball. I will make a thread explaining this tuesday.
Just looking at tier charts and stuff. Would you guys agree that Akuma is the safest character in the game? 2nd was Cody (surprised). I’m still trying to find a secondary/new main from Bison. I’ve been messing with Cammy, then Ken, now Viper. This has to be the first Street Fighter (or cross over) where I’ve probably never used Akuma.
Against crouching you have to end with either Fireball or EX.Tatsu. Akuma’s combo abilities against crouchers is rather average and requires meter to do anything significant. To combo into fireball you have to link the jabs into c.MP, but for EX Tatsu
And I am talking about far s.HK or the double kick. You will only use it consistently against characters like Abel or Makoto so it isn’t the first link to learn (Although ironically it was the first one I learned).
