Akuma FAQs: Quick questions & answers!

He’s doing it late so that the SBK gets blocked before the short comes out. It’s obvious if you watch the part where it’s used against Chun blocking the wrong way, because she has enough time to get up and start walking into the short before it hits.

Hmm, ok but sometimes you can still get thrown if they mash grab and you do it late. It seems the timing is tricky for this.

I dunno if this is the right way or not. But what I do is, knockdown chun li in training mode and see how long it takes for her to be able to attempt a wakeup throw, then time the os according to that.

Anywhere I can find which jump attacks must be blocked high/low? I think Akuma’s DFDK can be blocked low but Gouken’s can’t (at least in vanilla)? Not sure about palm strike. Or Cammy’s dive kick.

All jump in attacks must be blocked high. Akuma’s regular dive kick (down + mk) must be blocked high too. His demon flip dive kick can be blocked both high and low. Goukens demon flip dive kick can be blocked both high and low, (it was an overhead in vanilla, you were right). Palm strike has to be blocked high, and cammy’s dive kick can be blocked both high and low. You could have figured this all ou in 5 minutes of training mode, but whatever =D

Anyone else remember that Akuma win quote from SF4: “Open your eyes and gaze upon the man who has broken you!”?

Did they put it back in SSF4 AE? Why on earth did they take it out?

Seriously this is soooooo old. I’m really surprised you didn’t know it yet…people were doing this like after 1 month of vanilla SF4!

Works wonders btw =)

so i want to train some basic option selects. now, in training mode i set random block, and then i jump in while prebuffering a srk, on land i hit punch and block. is this even a viable option select? what i am expecting is that if the cpu blocks, nothing comes out, and if the cpu does not block, srk comes out.

If by “the cpu does not block” you mean that he gets hit…it doesn’t work like that. Option selects work only if you whiff.

To replicate in training mode you gotta register the jump in OS on p2 and then set to playback and you try different things like backdashing or reversaling on p1.

Btw, i think this has been discussed multiple times, you should find something some pages back

Oh I knew about it, just never applied it when playing… It’s not until I played JR last week ()and he pointed it out after our game that he made me realize I really should add that option to my mix ups. I have it down pretty pat in practice mode, not so hot during play as I’m still “forced” to think about doing it rather than just doing it… It’ll come.

Venom, bro, I gotta get in on your rooms soon. I used to have JR on my FL but I flopped when he invited me to play, and since then he removed me. My fault though, but TBH he would’ve just mopped the floor with me most likely. Since then I’ve improved, definitely wanna try my hand at good comp.

Just wondering, is it possible to cancel the recovery of Akuma’s sweep into Ultra 1 after an opponent’s reversal super flash?

Yes. Like if you’re up against a Ryu with his Super ready to go, start spamming that sweep and buffer U1 to punish his Super or sweep.

Hmm, thanks! I guess the timing on doing it against Chun’s super must be really tight then. Haven’t had much luck trying it in training mode so far :stuck_out_tongue:

i don’t think its possible against chun’s 2 frame super…then again i am not sure. neither have i seen anyone reversal punish chun super…

I have done it once, but the problem is some of the input gets lost in the super flash. So the timing gets really tight.

It wasn’t really my room to be honest. I had just come into a room with 8 slots and some fairly good comp (most of the guys there were 2000BP and over). A few minutes in, I saw PICKACHUAKUMA pop in the list and that’s when I began to sweat…

Hi guys, Is Option Select really a need to be top level in this game? I find it simply difficult to understand it, I haven’t found a Akuma’s beginner OS vid, and training by my-self makes it even worse.

I think Akuma wouldn’t really be as scary without OS, they are a huge part of the vortex.

Do you by any chance came across a tutorial on option select? The one in the useful thread lost me.
