Akuma Combos, Strategies, and Match-ups!

It really depends on the situation especially if you play Akuma like me and apply hell of pressure to your opponent to the point where they have to do something to get me off of them. Yeah but we play alot so it’s almost like second nature to SRK him on wake-up. Then again we are playing casually so it really doesn’t matter. If it was tournament then that would be really risky even border-line stupid. I was just pointing it out cause it doesn’t matter what SRK he does it will beat it out.

I’ve been actually practicing this for awhile now. I found that it has to do with the distance. If you cr. mk into mk tatsu right in kara-throw range you can connect with the mp SRK. You can even connect with SA 1 alot easier. Hell, you can cr.mk > mk tatsu > mp SRK(1 hit) > SA 1!

You can lk hurricane, close mk reset to put you in range for demon flip through. You don’t cancel the close mk, otherwise you give yourself too much advantage and you can’t throw. If you just hit them with close mk, wait for the recovery, then do demon flip (I can’t remember which one exactly) it work out perfectly. Unfortunately, it gives people a lot of time to react, so it’s only good as a mix-up and not really a reliable tactic.

Separately, how often do you guy use the lk hurricane crouching jab reset? And are there characters that it doesn’t work on?

In casual matches - all the time. In tourneys, depends on the momentum of the match. A lot of players will expect it when they get punished for something. My basic rule is, go for it when the lk tatsu hits and SURPRISES the opponent.

Cant do it on Ibuki, Hugo, Oro. Elena?

hey, i heard that there were vids of you vs gootecks on the latest podcast? are those uploaded anywhere yet? could use some inspiration vs rapist (cuz dash under c.HP can only get a man so far).

Um are some high damage combos out of an Air Tatsu?

and also, is HK Demon a different type of kara demon?

Don’t forget you can’t do it to Yun while he is in Genai-Jin. As for the HK Demon if you mean the one that combos no if you mean the close st. HK then yes, but it is only effective against crouching opponents. I also believe it has the most range of all of his kara demons.

Ok since the last post i posted which was earlier today, my first stick came in the mail!! So I’ve been practicing a bit and I’ve noticed when I try to do c.mk>lk tatsu>srk only c.mk>mk tatsu comes out… is this because of negative edge?

So don’t let go of the mk and do the lk tatsu

Thanks, now I just gotta make myself remember to do it.

I think its the cr.RH kara demon that has the most range.

I’ve actually tested all of them and the close st. hk actually gets you closer then cr. hk kara demon.

^^ wot he sed

Just tested myself again, and i’m 100% sure range order is:
MP equal with far HK, then cr.HK equal with close HK

Interesting site I guess I’ve either been inputting cr. HK demon too fast or I’ve been inputting the forward HK too slow in the close HK demon to give me more distance, cause everytime I’ve done it I’ve gotten closer with the close HK demon. That site would also explain it cause I input the close HK demon like this** lp,lp,foward, hk,lk,hp** Also, I don’t know why he said it’s more difficult to do these too then the MP one. I play with pad so alot of the sequences you would do on stick don’t really apply to pad. Like when I do the cr. HK demon I do sort of a QCF motion so it would look like this** lp,lp down+HK, df,f,lk,hp**.

I wrote i find HK KD harder cause i need to push HK with little finger then LK with index and finally HP with little finger, i always feel that really unpractical, specially in comparison with MP KD where fingers position are just fine. Though, as i find range gain isn’t really an issue, i never really take time to learn it so my finger sequence is probably completely stupid.
IMO, learning TKD is way more useful…

For the site, it’s mine, i’ve done it in a wiki way so feel free to add comments (by clicking on icon right next “NOTES”)

I noticed that in the frame data vid Akuma doesn’t extend his leg to a full vertical postion. Is that cause you are suppose to execute the move before his leg reaches to its vertical peak? I’ve aways waited for it to extend and that’s why it seems so easy to do. Maybe it also might explain the distance factor.

I may be wrong, but perhaps the first frame or two of when the kick reaches its ‘peak’ doesn’t hit - and that is probably the ideal time to cancel into demon.

Basically, I use close HK as a true kara against small crouching opponents. Against standing, I have to set it up off something to buffer jabs. When the demon comes out, you can barely see the shadow of the kick AT ITS PEAK. A bit late, and the kick will hit before cancelling.

Setting up a close HK demon is something I find very hard, but I think its the best ‘non true’ setup.

If i remember well, when leg reaches its vertical peak it actually hits opponent. I only tested with standing opponent, not crouching.
I guess you will have more time to cancel if opponent is crouched as first hit will not hit him, but i’m also pretty sure range will not increase.

I’ve tested it on Chun Li while she was in a standing postion. You can execute the HK demon at its vertical peak without hitting her. I’m not sure about other characters yet though have to do test against them. So I’ve concluded that I must be inputting the cr. HK demon to fast. That is the only explanation I can come up with at this time. I wish I had a way to show you what I have been talking about. Anyway great site ESN I’ll be sure to visit it often.
