I just found out I can’t go to evo. I’ve been having to deal with a buncha moving stuff, and I’ve been told that I have to be in Japan until roughly August 6th or something (after which, i move to a new place, and THEN can go on vacation)

Yeah, but I looked at the rent for the place that the board of education is paying for me, and for 4 months living here, it’s like, 3300 dollars. Spending half a month not even living here would be a huge slap in the face for the crazy huge amount of money they already spent on my rent. I’m not about to piss off the city that employs me, so I’ll just comply. I get a lot of vacation days now tho, since I was saving all of mine for this trip that I’m not taking, lol.

Hey I managed to work things out, and it looks like I’m going to Evo! I just bought my ticket today. Let’s do this.
If nobody else runs the tournies, I’ll run them. I would appreciate if we started getting together a date/time for the 1v1 and for the 3v3 tourney. Friday night for one and Sat night for the other would be optimal IMO.
BTW anyone up for Blazblue “casual” matches? FT3 or FT5 (FT10 is too long). Or maybe some blazblue “2 person tournaments, winner takes all” matches? The “entry fee” is up to you, i’ll be down for whatever.

Friday night, singles, double elimination for 5 bucks? Anyone? Then we can hit up the Burger Bar at mandalay bay people! (they got a Kobe Hamburger)
I would prefer teams first, in all honesty. 5 bucks a head sounds fair to me for teams. For singles, I would prefer $10 entry, tho. Up to whoever is running the tournament, however.
The GG community is currently trying to organize GG side events on dustloop. Since a very large percentage of the people who will be entering BB will be GG players, I think it would be a good idea to try to run both side events at the same time right next to eachother. That way, all the players will be easy to locate and I think it will help get higher entry for both games since people wont have to be so bored waiting for matches or whatever, and can instead play the other game while waiting and stuff. It shouldnt be that bad in the scenario where some people might be playing in one tourny when they are up in the other. Waiting for them only takes a few minutes. I noticed the bigger problem is when you cant FIND someone. If we know they are right there playing the other game, then its no big deal.
I was thinking Saturday would be the best day to run things. Friday is evo main events for GG and SFIV. GG players will be focusing on the main tournament on Friday and also LOTS of people entered SFIV so thats generally just gonna be pretty busy. Also, if we run things Saturday, it allows us to take advanced registration for both tournaments all throughout Friday, and that way we can even make brackets in advance as well so that once everyone shows up at the time that is announced, we can get things rolling quickely. A good idea would be to have a large sign posted next to whatever machines in the BYOC area are running BB and GG casuals on Friday, and have a signup sheet avaliable with all the start time info and everything. This will also help generate interest for the tournaments and we might even find we get people who didnt know about these events becoming interested and wanting to enter which increases entry numbers.
Just my idea. What do you all think?
Mike, that’s a great idea. Running the two BB tournies back to back might be good. Having someone organize the 2nd tourney while someone runs the first one would be good, too. I’ll volunteer to do either or if nobody else steps up.

The Aksys rep stopped by on IRC yesterday, dropped some hints about the BB TE stick and talked about Evo a bit. Sounds like the exact details still need to be worked out, but Aksys will be there and running a BB tournament. Looking like this will be more hype than some of the main tourneys. :bgrin:
