Airmail normally arrives within 1-2 weeks and is priced significantly lower. Do however keep in mind that airmail is neither insured nor trackable, potentially lost or damaged packages will be your own liability.
SAL is the cheapest alternative but naturally also the slowest, delivery time is usually about 3 weeks.
I can also say that Airmail CAN be VERY fast. I get it about 3 days after it is shipped.
deadfrog, I live in Vancouver and received an order from Per on his last shipment that was sent using EMS. I believe the order was shipped on the 20th and it arrived on the 24th. Highly recommended.
