On relevance: What is the IRC channel I should be searching for? I would really like to find out how to start playing as soon as I can.

Oh, that reminds me. For those who can’t figure out how to use IRC:
Download mIRC (google it). Run it and put in a name. Type /server irc.mizuumi.net
Then once it’s connected type /join #akatsuki
For those of you already on an IRC server that don’t want to switch servers: You can be connected to more than one server at once. You just have to type /server -m irc.mizuumi.net
It will automatically open a new server connection window without killing your current connection.
For those who can’t get IRC working due to ports or routers or whatever, there’s a really easy to use web chat client for mizuumi that should bypass all that:

Just put in a name and put in the channel #akatsuki
Lastly, there’s a lot of other clients that support IRC, like Trillian and xchat and stuff like that. There’s sort a list here.
The netplay on this is really solid; Mauve did a great job on that hacked client. I had a lot of fun last night on IRC.
It feels like such a simple game, but there’s some interesting mindgames going on during a match. I still have trouble with a few habits I need to break (IE- I cross-up and do the reverse motion; so Kanae cross-ups and then strikes a counter pose. YESSS) but I think I improved a lot. Thanks Gasaraki!

Finally got to play some games yesterday with fallot. There were a few lag spikes and it did get a bit slow during unwarranted times, but it was decent in general. I still need to work up my Kanae/Soldat game.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for since 2007 is finally here. Drop by the irc channel at #akatsuki on irc.mizuumi.net to test it out. It’s still in alpha but it works fine, is an incredible step up from the in-game netplay, and allows spectating.
As the guy who’s been working on this, this is very much in-development and in-testing and not really anywhere near ready for public distribution yet. (This is a hint, please don’t dist outside of channel yet guys.)
There’s still some serious issues with it that need to be ironed out, and any ‘polishing’ hasn’t been done yet. This is strictly alpha quality software right now.
