Sometime late 2007 I hacked the entire stupid(, stupid, stupid) network loop inside the game to run a lot better than it originally did. It’s not ideal and takes some time to sync on startup, but once it gets rolling it’s much, much better and smoother.
I’d have to do much more invasive hacks to it in order to make it better than that and, frankly, that’s a ton of work! That I have no motivation for at this time.
Still playable, and the only downside is that there is no spectating option. Couple of things to note:
For maximum performance both sides have to be on a solid connection. That means no wireless, no torrents, nothing like that. 1-2 delay for same coast, 3 to central, 4 for coast to coast is the general guideline. It’ll lag a bit when it starts but smooths out around the character select screen.
What’s the new netplay hack you speak of?? I actually thought the netplay was really good if people were close. It didn’t have input delay, but did drop inputs kinda like how NullDC’s online play does. I wonder if it’s possible to use ggpo for this hmmmmm…
Anyways, i guess i’ll come back and start playing it again. SF4 online is so bad that it makes me not even want to play it. Oh and #blitzkampf on efnet is officially dead. Thanks to all who idled there (me) and those random people who came in expecting to find players/info LOL.

Wouldn’t mind getting down some games (or trying to see if it won’t be so laggy with people in the States, as much risky as that may be). I’d think I might not have trouble with folks from Europe or some parts of Asia, if the netcode is almost as good as GGPO - but we shall see.
