I actually got to use Kanae today. She seems really bare bones, but remains interesting (for me, anyway). If the controls for the game wasnât so gay, then I would probably have more fun playing.
I just find it disappointing that she canât combo from her medium attacks (from what Iâve seen - that would make her that much better).

It really blows how she canât cancel her B attacks. Anti-air 2B into 22C would have been so good. I mean look at that move, itâs just asking to be cancellable. Maybe in a future update. x_X
itâs like the creators of this game are scared to add depth to these characters.
**Kanae
**The first thing I did after I played the beta version of this game was to find a character I was going to use in the naim game, so I made my way to the Subtle Style website and looked at the default rostar for the gameâŚKanae was immediately the character I wanted to pick (I want to try ouy Mycale also). She looked interesting and once I found out that she was a grab character, it made things even better because I like female grappler characters
Anyway, I tried her out in the full version of the game the other dayâŚfriends of mine were having not much luck with the character (they like grappler characters) and when I got to use her, I didnât have too much luck either - but I gave her a bit of time and found that she can be pretty ruthless, but it requires a lot of guesswork. It seemed as though the people behind the game made her specifically to counter and grab, while giving her a couple of good normal attacks to play with. She canât cancel many of her normal attacks, meaning she canât do any elaborate combos found on other characters. Luckily for Kanae, she has a bit of speed on her, so she wonât suffer from the same fate as slow-ass grappler characters like Potemkin and Zangief - she just has epic character problems like existing normal characters because she doesnât have many normal tools to gain an edge outside of her speed.

**Normal attacks**
-5A- I guess this is good as a standard anti-air and/or interupt like many standing jabs are. But just like most standing jabs, it misses crouching opponents. Not to be used (much) in pressure situation, better off using 2A. Cancellable into: 2A, 5B, 2B, 3C, 6C and any special attack....might've missed one here.
-5B- Straight-forward kick to the head, non-cancellable which sucks because I think this move is pretty good.
-5C- Swift kick that knocks down. Has more range than her 5B even though it doesn't seem like it. Easily her best standing normal as it knocks down and allows you to set-up nicely. In the corner you get 2C guaranteed before the tech. Cannot cancel into anything on hit.
-2A- I think this would be her main combo starter - and perhaps her best quick poke because it's cancellable into everything 5A is cancellable into. Has a bit of range and recovers quickly.
-2B- AA punch - non-cancellable. This move alone could've been something special, but seen as you can't cancel from it at all it's a move you wouldn't think to do immediately in a situation that needs addressing. I'm thinking it may go under things? I'll most likely play with the usage of this move next time I get to play.
-2C- Sweep. Goes under attacks - doesn't have as much range as I thought it did. Useful as you'll be needing those knockdowns and in a situation where your oponent lies down, you can hit them with it.
-3C- Commando roll. Just like Millia's roll in Guilty Gear you can get hit below the knee area. Not usless, it's pretty hard to apply...she's rolls for a while.Luckily for her, she recovers instantly from the roll.I'll play around with this more too.
-6C- Palm attack, cancellable into most normals, though 6C -> 5C doesn't connect (?). Much better than 2A in terms of options, fast recovery, great on wake-up and when it hits, you can square some extra hits before doing a standard combo...like tap tap grab =p If used with 2A, grab and counter holds then I feel the can be a problem for many when she eventually gets into the opponent. I love this move <3
-j.A- Jumping punch used to match someone in the air. Hit's a bit too high up to be really useful.
-up j.A- Like j.A - same applies.
-j.B- Jumping kick, comes in at a nice angle - I'd say this would be a pretty good safe jump-in, provided safe jumps exist in this game :P
-up j.B- Like j.B - same applies - though you're better off using up j. C.
-j.C- A more sharp jumping kick, governs less range than I first thought though it does have a bit of range. To be used instead of j.B if you're further out.
-up j.C- Jumping version of 5C. Knocks down, can combo in corner (shown in that combo vid).
-j.2C- SPLASH. Perhaps one of her best attacks from the air? Just like most grappler splashes, it crosses up too. Unlike grappler plashes though, it knocks down. You get good options here...plus it's safe on block, so there's no need to worry about retaliation. *Really* useful.
Special Attacks
-236A_B_C- Command grab. The strength of the button determines the distance of the grab (travelling distance). On its own it doesnât do much damage, but if you add her air grab after the toss, the damage doubles. If you have super bar, then you can use super air grab instead, which is cool. Grab is integral to her game and the range isnât TOO bad. Plus you get left near the opponent when you finish with the air grab or super air grab, what more do you want?
-214A_B_C- Counter hold - A for jump-inâs, B for high/mid attacks and C for lows. I thought this was a bit backwards, but whatever! The counter holds are also integral to her game and depending on the attack, you get different holds - her low counter hold is probably her best because you can follow up with her super air grab. This is pretty good for her as it means that your opponent may want to do a slower attack against you in some situations, meaning you get to set up 2A -> 6C better. Very useful.
-22A_B_C- Air grab. Button pressed determines forward distance travelled. Handy, can be very situational (depends on how you want to use it). Always to be used after commanc grab. I assume these work after reflected moves as super grabs connect in the very same situation. Good for crossing the distance afetr sweep and 5C (you recover slightly before your opponent can) ⌠leaves ou right in front of your opponent too. Canât use it like that normally as itâs got landing recovery.
**Super Attacks
**-236B+C- Super grab. It's a good thing that you can combointo grabs in this game, otherwise Kanae would eb outright crap. Super by itself does moderate damage, but you can extand on the super with super air grab. If you have a stock, don't see why you wouldn't use it. Decent range.
-214B+C- Super counter hold. Can't do anything afterwards from what I could tell, so I so wouldn't really waste a stock on it unless you were going to kill someone with it. You're probably better off trying to get super air grab from a normal counter hold or reflection. Looks nice though.
-22B+C- Super air grab. My personal favourite special she has because she knees the opponent into the corner, or near to it. Looks awesome :) Very useful, always worth investing in and again, does moderate damage but when you team it with a super beforehand or normal grab, the damage si noticably different. Cannot do Lv3 from this version though (?).
Lv3 Attacks
-22B+C- From super grab. Instead of surfing on the opponent, she just creates a small crater instead. I actually donât know if itâs worth doing. She has so many options when it comes to super though, so if you feel like being a bit flash, go ahead and use it.
-A+B+C- Extension from the previous move, she jumps up and stomps on the opponent. All 3 supers combined means the damage is huge and youâre left right on top of your opponent too!
**Throws**
-4_6A+B- Position change. Does a small portion of damage and even has range! You can mix up from here nicely too. Can't combo into it though.
-A+B+C- A toss to the ground. Nothing to special, justa normal grab! Left close.
Taunt
-A+C- Provokes the opponent, animation can be cancelled halfway through, cannot cancel into it (?)
I don't think I'll be using any other character in this game for a while. She doesn't have much but I do like how she works...as well as looks =p
Anything else I need to add/try? The main interest from this character is from playing against someone good...she definitely has her work cut out, but you'll feel good when things are going your way :>
I feel the same way :sad:. so far Mycale is my only motivation to playâŚeven then, shes too brainless to me.
