[Aion: Online]

F, how long is it going down?

Two hours.

Dammit, I was magically hoping it was a phony maintenance and not normal.

your mileage may vary.

Picked this game up last night, I’m currently a level 10 Asmo Templar on Siel.

My handle is Arkanon if you want to send me invites/gold/hatemail…

so what’s the general consensus on this. I’m very interested in it but i don’t want to get like 15 levels in and be “meh” and go back to WoW >_< My brother picked it up and he seemed to enjoy it a lot. but he has been wrong before lol

My thought on it taken from another thread:

  1. It’s a Koren MMO. I knew this when I purchased it, but still. This means: Grind Grind Grind your ass off. Once you hit your 20s, questing becomes a thing you do for some bonux xp while you’re grinding. Even the crafting system, while very powerful, is very very tedious to level up. One thing’s for certain, this isn’t WoW, and Aion isn’t going to hold your hand when it comes to crafting.

  2. One thing that it does hold your hand in, is quests. It’s not as hand-holding as Age of Conan (where it actually shades in the entire area of the map where the stuff you need to do is.) But it’s pretty close. You can click a quest in your log, then click the object, and you can hit the “locate” button. The game won’t locate everything for you, but it will locate every interactable NPC just about.

  3. Graphics: Amazing. What’s even more amazing? Optimized game engine. While the game looks like you need a top of the line, power PC to play, it’s not the case. Game looks beautiful and runs pretty smoothly. Even though it gets choppy in super populated areas, it still runs pretty well given the sheer clutter of players. Player models are fluid, and combat animations are damn impressive. Doing special moves feel powerful, and there’s hardly any awkward cardboard animations. My personal favorite is when my gladiator impales some dude on his polearm, then slams him to the ground.

  4. If you can survive the grind to get to do soem PVPz, coupled with the awesome visual quality of the gameplay, it’s a lot of fun. It’s difficult too, and if you picked the wrong class, playing the game solo can be frustrating in PVP. Aerial combat, I hear doesn’t pick up until close to max level.

That’s kind of a disappointment though, considering that this means some sorcerer hiding somewhere, is just going to pop in the air and melt your face off when you’re grounded and distracted. - most MMOs have this, but it’s compounded by the flight, since it’s essentially being able to gank someone while you’re mounted already, and being to run away with impunity.

  1. Nothing new to see here folks, move along. Despite all the cool things in Aion, if you’ve played WoW, you’ve played Aion. If you’re like me, that’s not all too bad, since I’m looking for something other than WoW, but similar enough. Aion is just as gear dependent as WoW is, especially if you’re a plate class (no surprise.) As far as Aion taking skill. I guess that depends on what skills you’re measuring. If you have the skill of being able to take apart the game and find the asbolute easiest fastest way to level, then yah, Aion takes skill.

  2. overall, if you’re bored with WoW and looking for a change of scenery, Aion’s a nice distraction. If you’re more or less content with playing WoW, and maybe curious about the grass being greener, I wouldn’t bother.

I would trade my 4 years of WoW for Aion. Well, every year after BC came out. This game is too good and I am having a blast!

jesus WTF?!?!?

i’d have a seizure following that

also is it just me, or do mobs in the abyss give way more xp? like a level 26 dude gave 13k whereas a level 26 in morheim would prolly gimme 8k

I’m going to pick this game up tonight, just bought a PC yesterday and will finish putting it together? What server and what race is SRK on?

EDIT: Probably going with a templar.

Damn, Megadux looks sick. He looks like the Devil May Cry 4 demon soldiers.

The abyss grants an additional 25% XP bonus.

so many templar! haha

im gonna still be the lowest one in a month, i guarentee!

Well im going to play for a week then i’ll be in australia for a while so i’ll probably still be the lowest. Are there really to many templars? i might be better off going with a healer.

Man, templar really is the new shoto. It might have something to do with the healing abilities, as opposed to going Gladiator, grabbing a big-ass sword and going full-on Leeroy Jenkins during raids.

Hmm, depending on how the solo grind goes, I might have to reroll as a sorceror or some other crowd control-spec class.

EDIT: Anybody know how to disable the Trade channel in chat? I can’t stand the barrage of gold website spam in that channel.

make a new tab and include whatever you want. i usually disable all channels.

btw.

Templars can’t heal themselves indefinately, they just have a couple of moves that “heal” somewhat.

Armor of Empyrean Lord at XX Level (13 or some shit), heals 25% of hp on a 6min cooldown and increases max hp by 25%
A DP skill at level 31-34 costing 3k DP and 30m cooldown
And a really shit Stigma

and if you roll a templar, prepare to have a pretty damn tough grind, cause you have little to no DPS until 45+

Yay I randomly dropped Departed Soul Plate Boots while grinding and now I get more whisper spam from actual players then bots.

FML.

I didn’t even know for the first half hour it dropped with all the “NICE.” “GRATZ” “HOW MUCH”

how tragic you got a legendary drop

oh poor you

toggaf

all i get is a stupid expert armor flux

hurry up and level so we can get thru the campaign quests, the last one gives a broo

Chunners and Mno.
