Wonder if plunking hp in focus is gonna net me double armor but probably timing is gonna be hard… Will be interesting if you can use it to beat ex fireball

You can just armor cancel s.HP into Focus for that, no need to plink it.

Hit HP, then MP+MK when the first hit connects. You have the entire hitstop period to input the FA.

Wait, I’m getting different notations from you guys on which HP move is the armoured one. Is it the overhead or the swing?

The overhead is his only s.HP. The swing is f.HP.

Yeah but some people are saying the armoured HP is 5HP. That’s the overhead.

Yes, that’s the one with armor. No one has said the swing has armor. Someone said b.HP, but there is no b.HP, that’s just s.HP.

Huh. Armoured overhead. Okay. Would have preferred armour on the swing really.

No because armor swing is probably slower and probably will whiff on some crouching characters vs overhead sounds faster although less range but will definitely hit crouching characters

Armoured swing would be amazing vs. fireballs and standing normals, which I suspect based on Hugo’s size are going to be his biggest problems.

You don’t ever need armour on the overhead since, hopefully, you’re landing it meaty for maximum frame advantage.

It doesn’t really matter which move has armor, because you’re not gonna use it like that. Its main use will be for doing armor cancels. Armor cancel into backbreaker to eat jump-ins, armor cancel into lariat/meat squasher to advance, armor cancel into focus to deal with EX Fireballs, armor cancel into SPD/U1/Super to punish, armor cancel into clap for pressure etc.

Can you plink a normal into command moves btw? Because then you could armor cancel the overhead to the swing anyways.

I would say armour on the swing would kind of matter. Armour cancelling is obviously useful but I’d rather have armour on the slow as fuck full screen poke than on the point blank overhead.

I think that’d make it too useful vs fireballs in capcom’s eyes though.

Yeah, but Grapplers rarely have good non-EX options against fireballs. Hugo can clap them if he has no meter (I assume? Haven’t seen a confirmation on that), or EX Lariat/EX Meat Squasher through them with meter. Him having a long range, heavy damage normal plow right through them might not be fair. Compare it to Zangief: Zangief can lariat through fireballs, but that doesn’t get him any closer. He can also absorb them with green hand if he spaces it well. But if he has meter, he can nail you with EX GH right trhough your projectile. The same goes for T.hawk with EX Spire/EX Dive and Hakan with EX Slide.

Hugo can clap fireballs away and with the armor on one of his normal moves he can walk forward and absorb some.

not to mention Hugo from what it looks like got a pretty long range FA and a faster dash also as mentioned before d,d+lk hopping over sagats/juri low fireball all this seems like pretty good options against fireball

honestly… i wouldn’t even be surrpised if f+HP (swing) doesn’t even hit all grounded opponent considering how tall he is… it’s definitely used as an anti-air just based on the videos i’ve seen and the changes they are making to it now.

Looking at him to be my 2nd or 3rd in Ultra.
