EX spd does the same damage as HP meat Squasher. Probably gonna use that for punishing reversals/ultras, unless he has a really damaging clap combo or his ultra throw + backbreaker gives better damage/setup
Don’t really know how he will get in on zoner characters, but he seems better than I thought.
Clap is gonna eat fireballs and has decent recovery. It’ll be an arduous processs, but he should be able to work his way in. His SPDs seem to give him ridiculous positioning advantage too, so getting him off of you is gonna be quite a chore.
Divekick pressure characters are so fucked.
We still dont know if ex lariat or even the normal lariats have any invu/armor/projectile invu. Gonna ask dawgtanian what the intended use of his normal lariats is if they dont have any property and cant be comboed into. They also look to slow to chase backdashes (and running grab looks better for that also).
Can’t fucking wait to hear Hugo’s theme. It’d better be every bit as raw and industrial as the 3S track.
Ultra Throw to U2 confirmed. Also Hugo can cancel his Super to Backbreaker on block, looks pretty hard to punish since be jumps over the opponent, which will screw with inputs (especially against charge characters) and puts him a decent distance away.
His Focus has HELLA range, but it can be crouched.
The FA is crouchable? Damn it, hate that with Gief. Still, Hugo’s looks like a pretty good AA, seems to hit really high.
Here is what i remember from playing him this weekend. Its based on memory so some numbers are probably wrong.
Normals
st.jab 50dmg
A far range jab. Wiffs on most crouchers.
c.jab 50dmg
A far range jab.
st.mp 100dmg
Very far poke. Its fast compared to other pokes with this range and damage.
c.mp 80dmg
Beefy counter poke normal with some active frames and a good hitbox.
st.hp 120dmg
A far range overhead.
c.hp 120dmg
Don’t use it.
st.lk 50dmg
Slow. Use his c.lk instead. Combos to ex lariat up close
c.lk 50dmg
Use this to cancle into claps for pressure, or ex lariat for a combo. You can also cancel into running grab.
st.mk 100dmg(?)
2 hit normal. Crazy range for an overhead.
c.mk 100dmg(?)
A sweep. Good way to counterpoke and earn a knockdown. You can combo into this from claps.
st.hk 120dmg
Drop kick. Wiffs on crouchers. Cannot combo from it or anything. Stay away
c.hk 120dmg
Bleh
Specials
SPD 180 200 220 dmg (?). EX 200dmg (?)
Range not that great. Gives a safejump afterwards. Used for punishing when his other slow punishers wont cut it. EX Has hit invu.
Clap 80 100 110 dmg. ex 120dmg(?)
Punisher used to start combos or in juggles. You can c.mk after all of them except LP.
Ultra throw 80 dmg.
Much further range than SPD, but slower startup. EX is sligthly faster.
Running grab 200dmg (?)
Instant corner carry. Use it from light attacks or EX when you predict a slow poke up close.
Lariat
Normal versions are all horrible. EX used in combos. Has 1 armor but its bugged/too slow to counter anything.
Back breaker
LK and EX are anti airs and anti backdash. MK/HK used for ultra throw combos and to catch back jumps.
Combos
c.jab,c.jab,c.jab,c.jab,st.jab 208 dmg
Ultra throw, HK backbreaker 280 dmg
Ultra throw, MP clap, EX backbreaker 360ish dmg?
Ultra throw, MP clap, U2 517 dmg
HP clap, LP clap, c.lk xx EX lariat
HP clap, MP clap, EX clap c.lk xx EX lariat
HP clap, MP clap xx Super, Backbreaker
HP clap, MP clap xx Super, U2 (Corner only)
Focus crumple, Backdash, HP clap, EX backbreaker
Focus crumple, Backdash, HP clap, U2
Also any of the above clap combos can be used after a level 3 focus forward dash.
I couldn’t get Super to U2 to work, is it tight or was I just doing it wrong?
Ultra throw to LK Lariat worked when spaced correctly btw.
Hugo seems a lot better than people were giving him credit for, it just seems like people aren’t playing him how he should be played in USF4. Based off of the Super Arcade footage, his dash seems really good for throw mixups and LK or MK Lariat seems good for chasing armored moves on wakeup. I also feel like U1 will be the better ultra in most matchups considering backbreaker looks to be a decent anti air and U2 doesn’t seem to do much damage currently. It would also make his corner game a lot scarier if his SPD range/damage stay as they are.
If clap retains the amount of meter he gains in the final build, I can see his super being one of the most useful ones in the game. It does good damage, can combo after it, gives nice corner carry, AND it seems like it has some potential to OS bckdashes with.
St.mp seems godly for his footsie game if the damage is actually close to 100. Cl.hp looks like a nice corner pressure move that will be nice against people who like to jump in the corner while doubling as an overhead. Cr.mk seems like a good preemptive whiff punisher depending on the amount of time it gives you to dash forward afterwards.
Having a ~200 damage combo off of jabs with the added benefit of being able to tic throw, dash SPD, or aa backbreaker seems like it will be really good in this game.
If they make his 3S knee overhead comboable from meaty I can see him having some really nasty midscreen oki mixups.
With a little refinement I can see Hugo being a solid mid maybe even upper mid tier character.
Hugo’s FA really doesn’t look like it whiffs on crouching opponents:
youtube.com/watch?v=SEF46DGT06o#t=78
Either that or Rolento’s slide move expands his hitbox upwards.
No, it doesn’t whiff on crouchers. Tried it vs Elena (and if anything whiffs on a croucher, it’s on her), worked just fine. At least she blocked it, but it might whiff if the opponent doesn’t try to block I guess.
Its tight. Like sagat EX uppercut u1. Maybe character spesific also. I did it on fei long. 722 damage from clap clap super u2
And yes, hugo focus can wiff in some situations. I know if rolento does c.jab or c.lk it wiffs.
I thought I heard Combofiend claim that U2 could be juggled from ex meat squasher? Maybe normal meat squasher as well?
would be cool, but I really doubt that will stay if it’s possible. I assumed you couldn’t since the move won’t allow combos after it in SFxT IIRC.
There are a LOT of differences between SFxT Hugo and Ultra Hugo though!
Yeah. But I figured it was more of an engine thing. Then again, you have stuff like Propeller Tortilla, s.LK with El Fuerte in SFIV… (wonder if that combo will actually be viable now that s.LK is faster.)
Mah gawd! Those combos… drool
Thanks so much for posting that exploid, getting me so hype for my new main! I just hope that July release date rumor was bs. How does one stay hype for 8 months…
Can’t say how frustrating it was to watch the only recent footage of someone testing out USF4 Hugo was them pretty much just doing empty jump, cr.lp x infinity : /
Thanks for the info Exploid, glad to hear the clap links to super is in. Don’t know how easy it is to get a HP clap to hit mind you, but that sounds like a great confirm into damage and mixups/frametraps if blocked.
