A good way to get good at the stick is to just run through all the trial challenges. I did them all on the PS3 on pad and now I got the game on PC, I decided to finally try to get good with the stick so I’m trying to beat all the challenges with the stick. I can already see my execution improving. Slowly but surely… I don’t remember how the hell I didn’t some of these trials before. I forgot how much of a pain in the ass they were.
Playing piano and guitar made me appreciate learning how to use a stick, it’s definitely all muscle memory. Do anything for long enough and you’ll get good.
First few weeks, I thought DP>FACD>ULTRA was meant strictly for the pros, and for the life of me I couldn’t land it. Now it’s been a few months, and just the other day I completed Ryus/Dans/Akumas hard trials easily, and I don’t even play them. I was extremely surprised to see myself pull off these insane combos, and I wasn’t even thinking about it, I was just doing it.
As a guitar player, it doesn’t really help that my stronger fingers are on my left hand and I have to use my right hand to push the buttons on a stick. I find my fingers getting tired when trying to piano or plink the buttons for an extended period of time. I guess they’ll get stronger with time…
When I first got my stick I thought “All that time doing scales just to hold a ball” but you’re right, after some time and pain, the muscle will get used to it. Then again, after getting SF4 I haven’t picked up the guitar much.
I’ve been using my TE stick for a week and I feel like I’ve been using it for years.
Everyone on this page so far is right…it’s just muscle memory, and there really isn’t a damn thing anyone can say on a forum that will help you get better. Just practice and the muscles will learn it on their own.
I can sometimes go weeks and months without touching an arcade stick, and when I come back, my fingers don’t hurt at all. I only experienced the “tired finger” feeling when I was first learning, and since then my hands just do everything robotically.
You might want to try an American stick (one with a perfect 360 or competition joystick) if you find that you like to do harder motions. I love P360s, but have been struggling learning the square-gate Sanwa.
This, and if you like to put more force into your motions with the stick, it’s likely that you also press the buttons harder. Happ Competition buttons (the convex style especially) can stand up to a lot of abuse.
Happ sticks have really gotten lost in this whole TE craze, but I still love them to death.
i like them both!!!
it all depends on the game i play…
Yep. Marvel is my “Happ game”, I try to play everything else on Japanese style parts…I
I’ve been using my TE stick for a little while now and no progress. Stick with it, and it will be worth it. Or so I’ve been told.
I’ve also ordered an octagon gate to see if that will help.
Hahahahaha
why so much hate on a beginer? he was just asking for tips. we all were scrubs at once
Mostly for the fact that he is guy #95951512395 to make the same thread.
octo gate owns. i cant stand square gates. id rather use octo, circle, or perfect 360, over square. just my opinion
No, I make my parents live in the basement of my house.
Got my first stick today and am allready better than I ever was with a pad (which isn’t saying much since I didnt play any fighting games in 10+ years), still keep twitching the stick and letting go off it alot though when doing srk’s to the right for example.
It was astonishingly obvious right away how much better a stick is over a pad though, no going back for me.
Sorry but I find the stick complaints to be humorous, I can’t imagine playing any other way unless the arcade game uses only 4 buttons i.e. Soul Calibur/SNK games. Guess I just spent too much time in the arcades.
I play TvC with the classic controller. Everything else, TE Stick.
I can’t see myself being better with the stick than pad for a while. The transition is very slow for me. I still can’t do a lot of stuff on stick that I can do easily on pad. Sometimes, it’s just frustrating when things don’t come out. QCFx2 moves are the worst. Especially on the P1 side. I just can’t pull it out fast enough. You get that retarded scoot forward/crouch motion then the move comes out. It needs a LOT of work…
Buffering super in between normals is really tough too like with the Fuerte trials where you have to do lk, cr.mk, super. I know how to buffer it with the pad but I get the move to come out maybe 1/10 times on stick. And that doesn’t mean it even combos. The right moves just come out. Hard trial 4 seems impossible with stick.
