AFRODOJO's FINAL EVENT! Moving to Seattle PARTY! 4/17! Starts at Noon!

Like i said i can see both sides, lol they both make sense 2 me

I don’t know if it’s about them frowning upon it (unless they’ve actually said that). I just think they all share the idea of “1 character til I die”. But even Daigo strays and plays Guile, Cammy, and Ken sometimes. I imagine Daigo picked up Cammy after getting bodied by Sako to learn a little bit. Anyway, it is admirable to push past match-ups and stick to your guns but it may just be a personal thing to switch it up too. I know I’ve felt way more comfortable playing Sakura against people who body my Abel, and I just end up doing better (like against Chris’s Ryu at Playsmart for example).

Also: playtowin lol

oops. double post.

It’s always an interesting debate for sure. I just wanted to chime in to add some thoughts to the discussion…

-Before anybody believes the Japanese are against counterpicking please think again. They all can play multiple characters at a high level, it’s just that their tournament format only allows them to use one character. And in a one game, single elimination style tournament, you’re definitely using your best character. But look no further than Daigo using Cammy in Europe, Tokido using Honda at Evo. Momochi is the man with Akuma easily, but he’s been using Ken in Super. Daigo used Balrog on Choi’s Old Sagat in the ST finals one year at Evo. I believe if their arcade tournaments allowed it, that they would definitely counterpick. Their console tournaments are already kinda going that route with people being able to select from two different characters at Nagoya Street Battle as an example.

-Our tournament format being the way it is, combined with how different the gaming culture is here, makes counterpicking such a valid strategy. We definitely don’t have access to great American top players everytime we play the game so being at a level where you’re absolutely incredible with one character in and out isn’t exactly a realistic concept depending on what character you’re interested in using.

-However, with that said, I think being completely proficient with one character is the way to go. It’s what I aim for everytime I learn a new SF game. I personally feel that being that good with a character forces people to play at a high level in order to beat you. That’s a level that most can’t or won’t reach, because you have to play at that level in order to be that good with any character to begin with.

-Using multiple characters or counterpicking can help because you can take certain ideas/concepts and apply them to your main character. For example, I love characters that have good normals because I like to play footsies. That’s a style I take to characters whose normals aren’t that great (ie Rufus, Viper, etc). Creates a different style of play altogether.

But yeah, there’s sound logic for both sides. You can stand to benefit from either style really, it just comes down to personal preference.

Committing to play another character, especially if he/she is a different playstyle from your main WILL teach you something new / give you a double rainbow moment.

here is Daigo’s take on this whole counter pick thing

and for the most part Deezo’s mind frame is on pont wit his

I agree with most everything you said except this.

Momochi has been using ibuki/ken in Super since until right after SBO he had yet to truly touch akuma in super. He even said that he didn’t want to mess his timing up for SBO with his akuma in vanilla. Guess what? He was apart of the winning team at SBO. Surprise? Not really. Now that he’s gnna be grinding with akuma I think we’re are really gonna see what akuma can do in super.

Also counter picking is valid but you have be a very proficient player to do it consistantly and effectivly. Seeing this I have basically given up at counter picking due to the fact that I dont have that kind of skill yet at 2d fighters to just be super good with another character to the point of just being super confident in using them in a tournament against a player where my main doesn’t work. As such I have been basically just stalkng every good boxer player on XBL for the past month. I don’t despise counterpicking but if you o it just because you think you can with no real exp with a char and lose you lose hella respect from me cause you think that you can, with 0 exp, use a character that is not your main to beat me? Please.

More chars will give you new ideas but to use them at a tournament lvl against high lvl people without actually making your counters good is a joke as is the player who does so.

I just look @ it like this, playing other character for fun will get u a better understanding of the game, but mastering 1 will help u win wen it counts, but counter picking can cripple u, for instance…

I play Cammy just like Carlos(but no where near as good) I currently struggle wit the balrog match up, it frustrates me, but if I tell my self “its a bad match up i should counter pick 2 win” does that make me a smart player? or am i giving up on cammy, a solid rule in ur head should be “never question my ability with my main character”

@ everybody feeling themselves

i wouldnt say feeling ourselves, more like everyone is determined, trying 2 hit those higher levels

I beat your Cammy with my Adon in 3 straight in grand finals before, and I beat your Fei w/ Adon the one time you pulled him out in tournament against me  But it’s true, my Bison hasn’t been too on-point in that Cammy match-up, too much offense. I’ve been using Adon as a character to push offense and get through sets quick, but I’ve been polishing Bison for steady slow-pace games. Trust me Carlos, if you hadn’t lost twice before reaching me at the dojo, I would have won :razzy: <- He says with all confidence and few actual wins against Carlos to prove it lol

Edit: Also, we should play more often. I need to level up my Adon/Bison

Hey Future… lets play soon.

Few actual wins actually disproves it.

Also don’t go spouting 1 adon tournament win.

I can count at least 3-4 where you lost. Those I remeber I usually think nothing of it.

Again tournament record overall (which is insanly stacked) not I beat you this one time and that one time…jokes, flukes if you will.

Although you’ll always be better than me in a pad fight…thats about it.

Yo future as of late where’ve you been? Can’t feel yourself if you haven’t done anything.

Yo Riki it’s not the match up- It’s me reading and beating you.

Carlos, it’s difficult to hear you from 5th place when I’m all the way at 1st :coffee:

yoooooo…:rofl:///about to grind out a few weeks straight back on live and such.

Congrats you won your first tournament that I was at. Probably not gonna happen again so enjoy it. I would gloat about what I’ve done but you already know about those.

Keep sippin that coffee

ya me and a couple friends were gonna try to figure out when to go up there. i think you’ve talked to one of them before(mikeysupreme). ill let u know when we have a set date.

Cole, you’re probably going to have to adjust this every 2 weeks schedule thing, because your next event would fall on the same day as the next Gameclucks thing (Oct. 16th).

Yeah I’ve talked to Mikey before, need to find my phone so I can get ahold of him.

Super moderating happen or what?
