You gotta have insane reactions and also it has to be kara ex fuki I think , im not sure though
i’m a lttle late but how do u cr lp os cr hp? also how do you uncross up some one after fuki reset
lol that’s a normal sweep OS … when your opponent stands up hit him 2 times with cr LP , but on the second LP press HP too (it will take priority over LP because if your opponent backdashes one LP wont cancel into another LP) … in other words on someones wake up you do LP>LP+HP (make sure they both hit)
after Fuki if you jump forward and hit with HP you’ll land first (obviously) then you dash forward and stay crouched , that way you will end up on the same side and its very ambiguous
Hey im pretty new to street fighter and i have been playing ryu/ken for the past month or two, i feel like im not really learning anything mostly due to a lack of enthusiasm towards the characters that i play. Watching V-ryu tear up last weekend made me really interested in makoto and she seems like the kind of character that i want to play, so i went and did all the trials for her. Im just wondering if its a bad idea to try to learn the fundamentals of the game with makoto, as she is quite special and quite hard to play, should i just stick with a shoto character for now?
Also if i were to pick her up, what are some of the most basic things that i need to know? and what are some bad habbits that i shuold try to avoid from the beginning?
Any input is appreciated, thanks!
This question pops up every now and then. Some people say go for Makoto, she’s challenging and it makes you step up your game to win. Some people think she’s not traditional enough for a newbie and won’t teach fundamentals in the same way as other characters, thus making it harder to get in the mind set of your opponent’s character and understanding how footsies and such work.
I’m in the second group. I say suck it up and stick with a Shoto, but that’s just me.
local gen player has a really annoying unblockable setup vs makoto; here’s a video i made showing how to get out of it.

I’m on the opposite end. I think you should just stick with Makoto all the way. However, if you go this route, I hope you can stomach A LOT of losing. Part of the reason people consider her an “advanced” character is because if one wants to be successful with her, one must have not only strong fundamentals, but also a decent knowledge of how OTHER characters behave. Most of the time, a Makoto player has to force his way in through CH pokes and good reads. A player can only do that if they have a decent idea of what their opponent is going to throw out next.
Compare that to Shotos, who have what I like to call a “fall back” plan. Let’s take Ryu, the father of all SF fundamentals, for example. If a new Ryu player is unsure of how to fight a certain character, he can “fall back” on a mid-range game using fireballs to keep his opponent out, c.MK when they get too close and SRK if they jump in. Makoto has nothing like that. She’s constantly moving forward, thus making her vulnerable. The trade-off is that if you make a couple of good reads, you can win a round in 13 seconds (no exaggeration).
So, if you’re not afraid to take your lumps, just start playing her. Just remember, even if you do go back to a Shoto, learn your fundamentals and then pick her up, you’ll have to go through a lot of losing. You’ll just lose slightly less.
if you are from europe I can help if you want , my gamertag is Despa1r
Not makoto related but just now on the way to work, my car spun out on the highway. Currently in a ditch waiting on tow truck. Car looks totaled. Guess ill be practicing a lot over next couple of days (half smile/frown)
It’s a blizzard here in PA. The weather hasn’t been cold yet until today, funky weather this year!
Hah! Too bad for you guys. I’m still wearing short sleeves here in Cali.
Edit:
But srsly, McG. Sorry to hear about your car
Safe straight jump HP -> instant forward jump HP
Is instant overhead.
Cool to kill or stun someone!
oh man, thanks for the info, been confused about that for a while lol
hmm come to think of it , I have done this against gief , didnt know it’s unescapable
With jump forward? I don’t know about that. He just showed it to me and it looks like a fuzzy guard application. Works really well though… Just don’t do it in th middle of a match unless you’re expecting stun:)
excuse me but wtf is a OAR setup?
isnt it just a cross up not a unblockable?
The user on here named Only Ash Remains. He came up with a shit ton of setups.
He came up with a bunch of ways to do a cross up Tsurugi off of a backthrow. I transferred them to the first page of this thread if you want to check them out. They’re quite deadly even if you don’t do them right since they beat backdashes and cause reversals to whiff. They are weak to people who crouch on wake-up, but then you can just do an Oroshi or Karakusa.
if you hold guard either left or right as you wake you will get hit. to block it you have to just-defend (block at the last possible frame, but it feels a little more lenient, maybe 3f). it’s one of those stupid hard-to-blockables that sfiv seems to be full of.
